How do you get an upsell

DH and I have been fortunate to receive upsells on our last 4 Princess cruises!! Three times we moved from Obstructed OV to balconies. On two I was able to select Caribbean deck (big) balconies! On our last cruise we went from Balcony to Mini. All cruises were booked directly with Princess - I like handling them myself. Perhaps we keep getting the offers because we always accept them! Who knows???

On the subject of casino rates - I've never gambled and I try to avoid even walking through the ship's casino due to the smoke so I was very surprised to receive an email offering me a very good casino rate last winter. We didn't take Princess up on it and I still wonder why we received the promotion.

Was the offer for a cruise in the Caribbean area? If so, the offer was sent out to many people because bookings for those itineraries were way down due to hurricane damage to many ports.

It was. I guess I'm not as special as I thought :p.

Don't worry, you are very special.

By offering greatly reduced prices via the casino method, Princess avoids the appearance of having to reduce fares to fill up the ship.

That being said, even though I've already taken one for my next cruise, I'm hoping for one more. There are still CC Mini's, PH's and Window Suites available and we sail in 25 days. A girl can dream.

Suekel, I received an upsell offer yesterday for my Alaska cruise on June 2nd. It was to move me from my obstructed OV to a Window Suite. I took it! It ended up costing me less then what a balcony is being quote right now for, which balconies are dirt cheap (just look online for the rock bottom prices). I was really happy with my OV but now ecstatic to have a WS. Good luck and hope to see you post an update very soon!

To the original poster, not sure how I was selected for this upsell but I received 2 for my sailing, one about a month ago to move from my OV to a balcony but it was way too much at time and yesterday from my OV to a WS, at much lower than the original upsell offer a month ago. I'm only 9 days out from my cruise at this point. I did book directly with Princess but I'm not sure that had anything to do with receiving my 2 offers. I think it is all a luck of the draw.

Well, I guess we just "upsold" ourselves :D Noticed nice fare drop on our departure yesterday and chose to upgrade from Obstructed OV to OV for $48 total rather than receive a refund from Princess on the fare difference. It pays to watch the fares daily!

  • 4 months later...

I have been on three Princess Cruises this year, offered three upsells and accepted all three. One was mini suite to suite, one inside to balcony, and one inside to premium. Balcony. My DS2 was offered a move over this year from balcony to inside and accepted it. We book directly with a Princess if that makes a difference.

It doesn't matter whether you booked directly thru Princess or used a TA. What does matter is whether your TA passes on the offer to you--some of them don't bother!

As been said if you get an upsell offer that your considering to accept first do a mock booking so you see what staterooms are available. Then you have some choices/preferences to mention to the Princess Agent. Carry those choices with you incase your out when they call.

to any newbies: last year I was a newbie to princess and booked a mini thru a discounter online because it was crazy cheap at 550pp (love lido on regal!). I played a small amount of money on my Canada cruise in October. come November I got many very discounted offers over the December/January months. even insane airfare for 100 bucks the week before Christmas and a 14 day cruise for 500 bucks. I did book a trip with a princess TA but couldn't take it sadly. this may or may not have contributed to my current trip

booked the same Canada cruise as last year and got a mini thru my princess TA. a few weeks after I got email notice of an upsell. I saw the email within 10 min of receiving it and called and left VM with princess without even researching. then began researching the remaining cabins. there were 2 full suites left and 2 hours later when they called me back I took one. to this day (2 weeks later) one full suite remains. dolphin deck must be cursed or something as I cannot imagine why someone wouldn't want the deal. the email said it was offered to all minis in certain categories.

I paid 40% of the normal rate for the suite and i'm thrilled for it! the moral of the story is make sure you check your email frequently and maybe you can get lucky.

Speed counts - if you use a TA there could very well be a delay in them relaying the offer to you, or some may not even bother - this is a first come first served deal - about a week after final payment date I start checking e-mail often. The last 3 years I have gotten upsells from minis to full suites on all my long cruises - will be in a suite for 20 days Nov - Dec at a fraction of what the price was originally

This can be inaccurate as Princess can keep cabins behind the scenes where the they would never be seen to booked by passengers.

or it could be accurate. so do the research anyway. there were 2 left at the time of my email so I decided which I wanted because the one was said to be noisy.

when he called me he offered me those 2 and I choose the one with better reviews.
