Peep toe shoes

Wouldn't think of wearing hose with peep toe shoes or sandals during the summer, but what do you think about peep toe shoes during the winter? Am seeing some attractive shoes I want for winter but many of them have peep toes. I live near Chicago and with snow and cold, I can't see going without some type of nylon while wearing these.

Would love to hear your opinions. Yes, in keeping in line with this general forum, these will be going on a cruise with me in March! No need to worry about nylons then though.

I have usually seen these in winter worn with colored or textured tights. On a warm weather cruise, I don't think you'd need anything else.

Still wouldn't wear hose....they are just so not current! You'll be inside on the ship...and it won't be cold! No need to bundle up!

Of course, it will depend on what you're wearing those peep-toes with....if it's a skirt and sweater, by all means, wear tights, if you wish...or even, knee-socks!

If it's with an evening dress (whether long or cocktail length), forgo the stockings...you don't need them, and they'll look silly.

On the ship, no, I wouldn't wear any hose, but I'm thinking for general use during the winter in the Chicago area. I think they look better without hose, but that's not really practical in a Chicago winter. Guess I'm looking for people to tell me it's absolutely okay so that I would go and buy them!

toeless nylons

In cold Boston, in winter, I wear toeless hose or would wear non-reinforced toe. Some of us ladies over 50 don't have the beautiful young skin on our legs we once had. Hose makes for a more attractive look.

Yes wear the hose! Why would anyone think they would look silly?

I do not know what fashion expert said no hose . I wear hose winter or summer in any dress shoe . I hate bare feet in shoes . I agree with the previous poster . Not all people have legs that want or need to be seen . Besides hose keep things in place and keep them from the jiggle.

My dh feels the same way about socks in his sandals . He hates the feel of bare skin sweating on the leather sandal .

Like the non-reinforced toe idea - thank you! That would allow me to wear them without nylons in a warm climate but still be able to wear them going out in a Chicago winter. I know they make toe-less nylons but the idea of frostbite on my toes isn't that appealing!

I hope the husband mentioned doesn't wear socks with sandals --ick! I feel the opposite about hose in hot weather, I just find that they make my feet sweat. In cold weather I wear pants or tights.

Agree! I have yet to see a pair of "toe less" hose that looks good! In my opinion, if you need to wear hose, then don't wear sandals or peep toe shoes.

Ducklite, mind if I ask about how much it costs to have spider veins removed? And how do you go about finding a good person to do the procedure?

I'm not ducklite, but I did have the injections for spider veins 7-8 years ago, and they haven't come back (I'm 54). I'm thinking that I spent about $500-$600 total for multiple treatments. I believe that any cosmetic dermatologist can treat spider veins, although you might need to go to a vascular specialist if you have the more serious varicose veins. Hopefully someone who has had the injections more recently can give updated prices.

Thanks, Klauer! I asked my dermatologist about it a while back and he said I'd have to go to a laser place. I guess they didn't offer the treatment then. But lately, they've started adding some cosmetic procedures like Botox so maybe I should ask again. I have no idea how to go about finding a laser place.

Hey I've recently seen photos of Kate Middleton wearing tights (hose) in peep toes, and if it's good enough for her then it's good enough for me. Admittedly they were the non-reinforced toe ones and they looked absolutely fine. On the back of this I've recently worn them with a pair of (very small) peep toes and you couldn't even notice them. Go with what you feel comfortable with, and not what fashion dictates.

I wouldn't wear them with strappy sandals, I'll keep my Sally Hansen airbrush legs for those.

I don't think that the laser works any better than injections for regular spider veins. I did have a laser treatment for what looked like a permanent bruise, and that worked well. If you google something like "vein treatment (your city)", you should come up with some doctors who specialize in that area.

Ask your primary care physician or dermatologist for their recommendation. That would be a good place to start looking.

You can get sunspots removed as well.

On one leg I had a group of spider veins that was bordering on varicose and tender to the touch. They were done with a laser and considered "medically necessary" so I only paid a co-pay. The other I had about a dozen 1-2" random spider veins as well as a small "group" of them that were fixed by injection, I think it ran me $300 or so--I only needed one visit. I still have a handful of very small ones, but unless they get larger I'm not going to bother with them.

I got a referral to a cosmetic surgeon from a friend who is a well respected vascular surgeon when it came up in conversation. Normally I'd ask my primary care doctor though.

I am not yet 50 and my legs look great, but if I am going to wear a dress or skirt, I always wear pantyhose. I usually get the Silky Sheer-type- no reinforced toe. I even wear hose with strappy sandals. So I see no problem with hose and peep toes. :)

I'm not sure which major fashion magazine I was reading (Vogue, Bazaar or Instyle) but, the comment was that hose (is or are) now back. They even suggested nude (oh the horrors) fishnets. I've seen pictures in high end catalogs of black tights with peep toe shoes.

Also I've had treatment for spider veins. Not all treatments are successful. Mine turned brown and took over a year to disappear. Further, I needed multiple treatments. It depends on the individual person. As long as you don't have reinforced toes, wear what makes you comfortable. Opaque tights in winter in Chicago makes sense. Don't listen to people who tell you differently. There is no right or wrong answer.
