Muster drill with Celebrity?

New to X, been on a few different lines and the muster drill changes depending on the brand it seems. So what is the process for Celebrity? (Reflection - Caribbean)

Thanks

Check the card on the cabin door to find where you meet. Might be the theater, MDR or some other location. Just go there when you hear the announcement. No life Jacket needed. You will find a letter and number on your Seapass Card, for example A1. Keep card in hand as you go to your assigned meeting place. Someone will be holding a sign with your number. There will be someone at the door to check you in. Very, very simple.

Just off the Connie yesterday, the muster drill was a custer, our muster station was in the casino. Guess if there is a real emergency, they wanted our money before we sunk.

Also on Celebrity when you report to your station you do not need your life vests...

Off the Reflection a couple of weeks ago. Our muster station was E2, which turned out to be the MDR. Why it didn't state the Opus Dining Room is beyond me?

We were seated at a table for 8, away from the video screens. We couldn't see the video at all. They did announce that if you couldn't see the video to just listen to the video. We found that impossible to do as a mother and daughter at our table decided to talk and have a private conversation throughout the entire drill.

I am surprised to be typing this, but I actually prefer a muster drill by a lifeboat.

I'm thinking search muster drill on yeah ole internet and I bet there might be a video available for watching. If not, many of us could repeat the drill word for word. Including the most important, this is not necessarily where you would go in the case of an emergency. Pull the strap tight. And the light is activated by salt water. (Please don't blow on the whistle now, as it is dirty.) Tweeeeeet!

You can always watch it on the TV in your Cabin. Usually it runs nonstop 24/7 on one of the channels.

Or, if on a Costa Ship please follow the Captain.

How could anyone really prefer standing outside by the lifeboats? Been there, done that, it sucked, don't want to do it anymore.

Yeah…I am not looking for the video People!! lol I have been on a few cruises, never on the same cruise line twice. So the muster drill changes. I was curious if I am taking the life jacket or not, am I going to be outside (bring my fan) or inside in the air conditioner.

Thanks for the answers guys I appreciate it!!

Celebrity, along with other lines with modern large ships, does not do muster drills by the lifeboats as no lifeboats are assigned. There are several evacuation devices used by the cruise line in addition to lifeboats including devices that are more efficient and versatile in an actual emergency where the ship might be listing such as the Marine Escape Systems installed on the S class ships.

They meet inside so that they can organize an evacuation if needed. Since all emergencies are not the same the method and location of an evacuation, if required, must be able to change with the conditions.

Celebrity really has to re-think their muster drill. It is a mess. Never felt unsafe on any ship - this was a first time for me. Felt unsafe because of the drill. They don´t even know who attended the drill and who did not. Wonder how they will do this in a real emergency. Plus, the muster stations are on decks 4 and 5. People from lower decks were assigned to muster stations on 5 and people from higher decks had to use the same stairway to get down to 4. In a real emergency nobody will be able to move in any direction on that stairway.

And yes, I was not able to watch the safety video at the drill because the screen was so small and the place so crowded. But they provide the video on the stateroom TV so this is no problem for me.

Muster stations are inside - no standing outside shoulder to shoulder in the heat waiting for the late comers to arrive.

Been on three HAL cruises and they did this. Do they always do it? Hard on the legs waiting for laggards. Cudos to Celebrity that you get to sit down.

Don't know what you experienced personally, but we have always had to give cabin number so they no we attended. I though all not attending had to do the drill the next day.

Yes, I gave my cabin number and saw the crew member mark it on her paper. Still I got a letter stating I had not attended. When I complained at guest relations there were several people with the same issue.

The muster drills on our last two Celebrity cruises were a joke. We were crowded into a bar, surrounded by people who were already into serious drinking and wouldn't stop talking or moving around. We could barely hear the video and couldn't see the screen. We were glad we are Elite so know what to do and when to do it from previous cruises. A newbie wouldn't stand a chance unless they watched the video in their cabin.

While I didn't enjoy standing outside in the sun on HAL, people seemed to take the drill more seriously. Especially when they lowered the life boats, the noise level dropped to almost dead silence. You'd think after the Costa Concordia people would want to know what to do when the horn starts sounding.

I also was thoroughly dismayed with the muster drill on my last cruise on Summit. It was awful. The right hand didn't seem to know what the left hand was doing. Being experienced at cruising, for me it was a formality but at the same time made me wonder what would happen in a true emergency with such chaos. I had never seen such a poor example of a drill on Celebrity and I also have cruised Celebrity many times.

nothing special. bring not your life vests, do not go to other location but what is on your card, and like everyone else do be late.

Next time you do a muster drill just take a good look at those doing the organizing. There is usually the general mix of entertainers, bartenders and waitstaff trying to keep some semblance of order. To their credit they usually do the best that they can although frequently struggle when somebody awkward comes along who does not want to be told what to do.

In a real emergency however remember that they are only one short training course ahead of the rest of us.

Let us hope that none of us ever have to experience a real emergency.

Sorry, but count me as one of those who prefer to have drills at the lifeboats themselves. Yes, it can be hot and frustrating when people are late, but it lasts less than an hour and you're back inside quickly. HAL always has officers present conducting the drills and there's no video presentation everyone is trying to see and hear. And when people are talking, I have heard officers silence them quickly and firmly.

Other than order being kept, why do you feel it is beneficial to by a lifeboat?

Celebrity could accomplish the order and attention you're citing in your last two sentences in any location if they put the effort into it. Likewise, if they procedures are lax there could be even more disorder and lack of attention outside by the lifeboats.

Since no one is assigned to a particular lifeboat, or even a lifeboat area, and since lifeboats are not the only, or even the best, evacuation options, I don't see what purpose going out to a lifeboat would serve these days.

Very surprised to hear so many folks speaking of mismanaged drills on X. I've never experienced it. I've drilled on deck on Royal Caribbean, but have never seen them actually lower a lifeboat as an earlier poster mentioned from a drill on HAL. I believe that would be informative and sobering.
