Noro on marina now?

Sounds like it from another thread that is going around. But they have not used that word. Is it yes or no? Are they afraid to use that term? We should know.

Why not ask this on the thread that already exists (“Marina now”) and has posters on the ship itself - they should know.

No need for a new thread on this.

That thread does not ask the right question in the heading. Marina now could mean anything from food to laundry to trivia. Still no reply as to what it is. . A very important answer to know.

I am unable to reply quickly due to internet. But no one has mentioned Noro virus on Marina.Gastrointerstinal problems is what we are told.Sorry I can’t be more specific! But I do know there is different symptoms in different passengers. Some confined to cabins only and some on intravenous antibiotics.Staff too.

Sounds like same thing. Makes for a cruise that is no fun at all. If they do not have to report to CDC than they do not have to tell you anything. Too bad that US rules do not apply to ships out of country. At least everyone would know what was going on.

If there are people on IV antibiotics, that indicates something bacterial. Not something viral, like norovirus. Perhaps they aren't using the term norovirus, because there are two separate issues going on, or because it's NOT norovirus.

Either way, high levels of biosecurity is the way to go.

Or it might just be an IV for fluids. No way to tell.

FWIW, on the Riviera in Dec 2015 they didn't use the term Norovirus onboard although it was already showing on the CDC website as such.

Just the same as our Feb. 2016 cruise where we came back 2 days early. A huge effort to clean the ship that could not be done while everyone was on board. Everything was a big secret even though a lot of areas were closed or under cover. Worst cruise ever but things do happen. Hard to blame Oceania since the Noro was probably brought on board by a guest. Hope things get better on current cruise.

Thanks.

The main problem for us is the running out of some wines!,Although difficult on board and not quite ‘Oceania’,we know it’s for the best for us all on board and the next sailing.

We have a great cabin and so we can enjoy our time in that with hot breakfast delivery and specialist restaurants dining in cabin when we want..

Some people have had chest infections and maybe they are the IV antibiotic lot.

Haven’t see the cruise director for a few days!!

Jane,

Is the CD Paul Grant? Is the ACD John Ekin? Is Paul or John still taping the "Daily Show" that runs on Channel 2 every morning? Paul is not a kid, and if this emergency is the flu, he could be very much at risk, just like the passengers.

When we were in Code Red on Regatta (out of Lima/Callao) last year, all the Big O bucks had to be incinerated and we kept playing with the CD recording the point results (for all the Big O point/activities) by cabin number and announcing them at the O merchandise sale on the last sea day.

We used pencils for trivia and were told to keep the pencils and return with them for subsequent days. We also scored our own answer sheets, instead of exchanging them. Very interestingly, one team was scoring big until the code red was lifted and we started exchanging the answer sheets for scoring.

Here's hope that you get 24 hours with no new infections, then 48 hours, then "Level 1" and then get Code Red lifted completely.

I just posted this on the Marina Roll Call, Feb 3, 2018 Papeete to Papeete.

I received these two separate emails from my TA today.

"I called Oceania. They confirmed that there is a cleaning crew heading to the ship, and boarding will more than likely be delayed until 2pm. That is tentative. They advised that they would be sending a communication to use later today with the exact time. Once I get it, I will forward it to you."

"I can see your perspective. Being in the industry for so many years might let me put your mind at ease by saying that it’s usually better/safer in these situations. These crews that they send out don’t just wipe the ship down. They do deep cleaning, steam clean the carpets/upholstery and make every square inch of the ship spotless. So, you may come across a slight delay, but the ship will be impeccable, and you can rest easy knowing that it’s recently undergone a huge deep clean. Unfortunately, these things can happen in any form of travel, but I’m confident that cruise lines, above all else, do their best to ensure the safety and health of their guests is their first priority. You’ll be more than fine. Let me know if you have any other questions"

I wouldn’t count on the deep clean (a) being finished by 2pm or (b) having any positive effect!

On Regatta in South America nearly two years ago, they had norovirus on the previous cruise to ours. They said boarding would be delayed while they did a deep clean. I think they said we would board at 2 or 3 pm. In actual fact it was 7pm before we boarded. A lot of hanging about.

The deep clean did not apparently work as we were still on Code Red for the entire cruise.

The deep clean must be effective in some way, otherwise no cruise ship or any place with a large gathering people, would ever be free of the virus.

I prefer to stay positive that the ships efforts will prove effective and, maybe it won’t rain ️ a lot either.

Once again - the ships are not sick, it’s the people who are sick.

Yes - it does help to clean the ship but if some passengers that are “sick” stayed on or if some crew members were sick (they do get sick, you know) then the potential for continued illness is stil there.

As simple as that.

Yes, I agree. That is what I was thinking!

  • 2 weeks later...

We noticed people were boarding the Marina at 7:30am on February 3rd and were being seated in the theatre. We, the departing passengers, were out of our staterooms by 8am and all told to wait, wherever we could, until our departure time. This resulted in a lot of people having to stand in the lobby. It was our first cruise with Oceania and I am not sure if we will cruise again with them. We booked a cruise for November but are thinking twice about it. We think there should be some compensation given on an upcoming cruise for the lack of facilities that we had on this trip. It would also be helpful to have announced exactly what illnesses were on the ship in case departing passengers got sick from something, obviously contagious, when they returned home.

The cruise director is Paul Grant.Today we no longer have ice delivered to our cabins.

We have fresh fruit, some apples and pears. But no ice!,,It is miserable.

In addition, Paul was quarantined for 5-6 days due to the "unidentified GI illness".

FWIW, you always have to out of your cabin by 8am, even under completely normal conditions. The rest I won't argue with as I've been on a cruise similar to yours and no it becomes no fun at all.

Yes, I know that 8am is the time to vacate the rooms on every cruise but my point was that usually you could wait in the theatre or any other place with a lot of seating.

It seems rather odd that they would board any passengers before the previous ones are departed. Especially if there is going to be a deep cleaning done.

That sounds like a logistical nightmare. Are you sure it wasn't the back to back passengers?
