Why are taxes/port fees higher on a 9-day cruise than a 14-day?

Much higher for a 9-day cruise to Florida/Nassau/GSC than a 14 day cruise. I'd think the opposite would be true.

No you go to a lot more ports on the 14 day

Port fees and taxes are always higher for US ports, that stop in Florida is probably the reason.

Southern Caribbean itineraries usually have much lower tax and port fees.

It’s not always the number of ports but which ports are included. Some ports fees are higher than others

No you go to a lot more ports on the 14 day

Difference is probably because the Ports on the 9 day cruise have higher fees.

Key West is an expensive port for docking.

And the dock fees are set by location, so cheaper places mean less fees.

As others have said - ports charge different taxes. For example taxes etc for ships going through the Panama Canal are QUITE high.

simple: it has to do with ports. The US ports have higher costs. I know it seems crazy but that is the simple answer.

I think this issue might have something to do with which ports the ship actually calls at - the rate will vary depending on the port.

In this hemisphere, are the highest port fees from Panama, esp. if the ship is doing a partial or full transit? Or is the extra charge for the transit folded into the cruise fare? Anyone knows or should I go to the Port of Call threads or my friend Google.

Completely true regarding costs of ships to transit/partially transit. The average cost is $150,000.

True since the fee is about $135 per passenger capacity not per passenger. In 2015 the Sun paid $379,000 to transit the canal.

That is why port fees per passenger are much higher for Canal transits.
