Just want to let you know what our upsell offer is that we have received a few days ago for our cruise on the Koningsdam 13th May. I always find it interesting to see the offers from other people.

Upgrade for select bookings from your Interior (Category IQ to N)to the following best available:

Unobstructed Verandah (Category VQ to VF) for an additional 199pp EURO

Family Ocean View (Category FA to FB) for an additional 149pp EURO

Ocean View (Category C to F) for an additional 129pp EURO

I hope we receive more with better rates

HAL seems to be starting the process earlier and with higher prices. You just need to decide on a price you are willing to pay ahead of time and then jump quickly if and when it comes along.

My recent cruise was sold out in most categories for a couple of months. When an upsell offer came 5 days prior to sailing at a price I liked, I immediately called and took it - total time less than 5 minutes from getting the email!

Dave,

I have been trying to remember. I seem to recall I got direct e-mails from HAL about upsells whether I used a TA or not. What is your experience? If you used a HAL vacation planner, did you still get direct email?

How long is your cruise. Those look pretty good to me, even for a 7 day cruise. Be sure to check the cabin location.

Two weeks ago (April 11) received an upsell offer from an SS guarantee to a Neptune for $129 per person--and selected a Neptune four doors from the Neptune Lounge--on the Nieuw Amsterdam for May 19 sailing. I have found that when I keep the booking with the PCC, I get the upsell e-mails. When I transfer the booking to the big box store in Seattle, no upsell e-mails.

The offer is for a 7-day cruise OlsSALT.

But we are unsure if we are going for a paid upgrade or take the signature drink package. We can 't do both.

We have sailed previously on the Koningsdam.

I use a HAL PCC and get direct emails (just did this 4 weeks ago and was able to nab the sole cabin offered!). I really like getting the direct emails as I can quickly respond (last time took all of 5 minutes from time I got the email until I had the cabin locked up).

Just so I got it right... You didn't need to contact your PCC at all?

Not Dave, but the email comes directly from HAL, not the PCC. The email gives you the number you have to call. You don't interact with your PCC at any point.

If you get an upsell (or as HAL calls it a "Preferred Limited Upgrade Special) offer, it gives you the direct phone number to call. Your PCC isn't involved.

Thanks. I thought that was how I remembered it. Thanks for refreshing my memory.:)

Well, not necessarily. I accepted an upgrade offer just last spring and talked to someone on "the number you have to call". But I didn't like the location that was assigned to me by that individual (DIRECTLY above the slot machines in the casino on an R-class ship). So I took a look at what staterooms of that category on that deck were still available, found a better location and called my ever-awesome PCC. He put me into the stateroom that I requested, which was further aft and directly over the library.

No need to (but I do alert my PCC that I am interested in an upsell and she calls the appropriate department to tell then - do not know if this helps or not). The email comes directly to me and if I am interested I call the number provided in the email to speak with the person handling the upsells. VERY quick and easy. As I mentioned, the entire process took less than 5 minutes. I got the email, called the number, spoke with the HAL rep and got the cabin number, OKed the deal and paid with my credit card on file.

One tip - be sure to have a deck plan layout handy when you call HAL, as most times they will let you pick your cabin (but once you do it might be hard to change). I have gotten some great cabin locations this way, but you do have to know what you want. I usually look at available cabins in the new category just before I expect the upsells to be sent out.

I did one upsell through a TA and it was very cumbersome (she contacted me, I had to call her back, she called HAL to get more details, she called me back I OKed the deal and she calls HAL to get it and then she calls me back with the confirmation. The major problem with this is on an upsell that goes quickly - it can take too long and you miss out.

So when you used a TA, you didn't get an email from the upsell department? I am using a TA .

Your TA will get the email. The TA will have to forward/contact you.

You can call the upsell department directly after you receive the email but you cannot accept the offer. Only your TA can do that.

History.

I was booked in a SB on Rotterdam on 4 March 18. The cost of this booking was $1699PP.

On, 7 Feb, I received an upsell offer from HAL through the TA. The cost was $1649PP to a Pinnacle Suite. I called the number in the message and the upsell department was happy to discuss the offer. I declined.

On 28 Feb, I received another upsell offer from HAL through my TA. The cost was $749PP. I called the TA and accepted.

Bottom line: I received two different offers about two weeks apart. My final cost for the PS was $2498PP.

Although we enjoyed the PS, I doubt we would take the same offer again. Really, just a one time bucket list kind of thing for us.

Hmmmm... I have a new TA so I don't know how good she will be about calling me. I may just call the upsell department directly to check once in a while. I am 46 days out. Too soon to check?

Wouldn't hurt to call. But, remember, any changes to your booking has to go through your TA.

Usually they start about 5-6 weeks out, but most are within 4 weeks. It just depends on how well the cruise is selling out I think.

It seems to be selling well, so I don't know about my chances. But the two cabins I would choose are still open at this time. Just not willing to pay the huge premium to get them. And I am in a very good cabin now.

Just emailed my TA and quickly got a response that they would mark my booking accordingly and contact me if something comes to them.

I may call the upsell department anyway to keep on top of it.
