Cruiseoholic000 Posted November 13, 2017 #1 Share Posted November 13, 2017 I will be using my cell phone to take pictures in Europe. I was wondering what everyone does to safeguard your cellphone from pickpockets? Do you just keep it in your pocket? A belt clip?
Rare OneSixtyToOne Posted November 13, 2017 #2 Share Posted November 13, 2017 I will be using my cell phone to take pictures in Europe. I was wondering what everyone does to safeguard your cellphone from pickpockets? Do you just keep it in your pocket? A belt clip? Here is a tip my father once showed me. Put a rubber band around your wallet (or cell phone). It makes it more difficult to slip from your pocket.
Rare Clay Clayton Posted November 13, 2017 #3 Share Posted November 13, 2017 1. I keep my cellphone and a separate wallet in my front pants pocket and keep my hand on both when in crowded areas. 2. We download our pictures on a regular basis just in case #1 doesn't work.
suspaul Posted November 13, 2017 #4 Share Posted November 13, 2017 I too use my iPhone for the camera and was afraid of dropping it, especially when it’s cold out so I bought this from Avalon, attached it to my iPhone case and slip on my wrist. It really works and would be a deterrent to some extent when it’s on your wrist. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00NVP0SWG/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1 I hope the link works. The Other Tom Posted November 14, 2017 #5 Share Posted November 14, 2017 I keep mine in a zippered front pocket.
KathyK13 Posted November 14, 2017 #6 Share Posted November 14, 2017 I carry a small Travelon cross-body bag that has slash proof strap and sides as well as locking pockets. It holds my phone, camera, our credit cards, and cash. My husband wears a super lightweight backpack containing anything it wouldn't worry us to lose: water bottles, sweaters, sunscreen, an umbrella, etc.

Rare Btimmer Posted November 14, 2017 #8 Share Posted November 14, 2017 I use a travel vest and it goes in one of the zippered front pockets. I put nothing in my pants pockets. Sent from my iPhone using Forums
Bizmark'sMom Posted November 16, 2017 #9 Share Posted November 16, 2017 My stuff is carried in a zippered cross body purse. Be careful with putting things in any pockets. A man in my group was pick pocketed inside Cologne's Cathedral - they got 100 euros out of his front pocket.
drakes2 Posted November 16, 2017 #10 Share Posted November 16, 2017 I travel to Europe often to visit my family and keep my phone and money and cards in a cross body bag with zippered compartments inside. I have often stopped others to use my cell phone camera for a photo but look for tourists who are also busy taking photos. Although it's a risk I have never had an issue. Rare Btimmer Posted November 17, 2017 #11 Share Posted November 17, 2017 We are currently on a river cruise down the Rhine on the River Empress and I keep my cell phone handy in a zippered front shirt pocket or a travel vest. I shoot most of my pictures with a Canon point and shoot and transfer selected pictures to my iPhone. Sent from my iPhone using Forums

Sent from my iPhone using Forums I also use a small point and shoot camera with an attached wrist strap when we are traveling. On our last land based tour, I watched two people (out of our group of 35), drop their smart phones while taking photos. My little camera fits in a special outside pocket of my cross body bag, ready to pull out at a moment's notice. Works for me!
