Cruisercl Posted July 23, 2018 #1 Share Posted July 23, 2018 I am wondering if anyone else has had this type of thing happen to them? I booked a transfer from my Cocoa Beach hotel with Cocoa Beach Shuttle and was charged for 2 people because they do not take a 1 person reservation. Total rip-off. Just giving others a heads up. Are there others solo travelers should be aware of? Safe sailing all!!!
hrhdhd Posted July 24, 2018 #2 Share Posted July 24, 2018 I have never heard of that. You could look on the FL Departure Ports board for other recommendations for shuttles.
Rare Lois R Posted July 24, 2018 #3 Share Posted July 24, 2018 I have never heard of that either and it makes no sense at all. I have taken multiple shuttles to the ship in Pt Canaveral and have never been charged for 2 (I always sail solo). Who are these people? If they would not have taken the money for 1? I would have used another company. And I would have said something to a supervisor......every time I paid it was for 1 person. Sorry you were treated so poorly.
robin13 Posted July 24, 2018 #4 Share Posted July 24, 2018 I sure hope that you didn't book with them as that is a total ripoff!!
suziehmkr Posted July 24, 2018 #5 Share Posted July 24, 2018 I booked a transfer from my Cocoa Beach hotel with Cocoa Beach Shuttle and was charged for 2 people because they do not take a 1 person reservation. Did you call them or do this online? There is an excursion that I am taking in San Juan. Their online website didn't allow a single reservation. However, one phone call and they were happy to accommodate my solo booking.
zqvol Posted July 24, 2018 #6 Share Posted July 24, 2018 I sure wouldn't do that, a cab could nto be any more expensive.
suspaul Posted July 24, 2018 #7 Share Posted July 24, 2018 Have you thought about using Uber? Sent from my iPad using Forums
watson61 Posted July 25, 2018 #8 Share Posted July 25, 2018 I was staying in a hotel in FLL and tried to book the shuttle to the port. Since it was only me, they quoted me a price of $25, which was ridiculous, considering how close it was. I booked an uber for $8 instead, and I believe that even included surge pricing since so many people were trying to get there at the same time. NancyW12 Posted July 26, 2018 #9 Share Posted July 26, 2018 Yup- had that in a quote for a shuttle from FLL area to Miami. I didn't use that company.
Cruisercl Posted July 26, 2018 Author #10 Share Posted July 26, 2018 Thanks for the support everyone!! I am actually very happy to see that there really isn't much of this happening. But not surprised that others have had the same thing happen. Rare cruisemom42 Posted July 29, 2018 #11 Share Posted July 29, 2018 Can't speak to your experience in the US but in Rome most of the transfers to the port (which is a good hour away from the city) have a fixed rate for 1-2 people. So even if it is a shared shuttle, you're paying for two if you are a single. It's one reason I generally take the local train and get there on my own. tiger-91 Posted August 1, 2018 #12 Share Posted August 1, 2018 I just rode with cocoa beach shuttle solo for $10 round trip from Americas best value inn. On the return, I was the only passenger in the van. Excellent service.

DRS/NC Posted September 22, 2018 #14 Share Posted September 22, 2018 Something I've run into as a solo cruiser: when booking private tours w/your Roll Call peers, ask if the person arranging the tour will take a reservation for ONE. Most tours seem to be in vans/mini buses for 8, 12, etc. That means that your solo reservation may leave the organizer w/an odd seat to fill. Some private organizers have gladly accepted my solo reservation; some have not (or suggested that I pay for 2 seats if they can't fill the odd. seat. I declined that tour.) Never hurts to ask. Virtopia Posted September 26, 2018 #15 Share Posted September 26, 2018 I hope they got that fixed for you - that's insane. The only time I've been quoted more whenI was attempting to book solo was on Viator.com when I was traveling to Italy. I looked into other accommodations that would fit for a solo traveler.
