It makes amazing business sense. Customers should be segmented into four grades: A’s, B’s, C’s and D’s. They should be totally concentrating on their A customers. They are the most profitable, most loyal and best source of referrals. The 80-20 rule is that 80% of any company's profits come from the top 20% of its customer base and they will not notice a 10% price increase. They are the A customers. RCI needs to do more to attract A customers.

 

The B customers will grumble but they are so loyal they won't go away.

 

The C & D customers are quite frankly a drain on profits and raising prices will be a nice way of saying "goodbye".

 

They need to stop discounting all the way around. When you stop discounting, you literally stop giving money away. Think of it this way: if you constantly discount, why even bother having a retail price? Not only does discounting cost you money, it gives your customers the general impression your “normal” prices are a rip-off. The flip-side of this, especially if you are in a “discounting” oriented business, is to add-on value instead. In some instances, you may be able to raise your price, add value for very little cost out-of-pocket and enormously leverage profits. In the end, it’s all about perceived value for your customer.

Their most profitable customers are the ones in suites regardless of how often they've sailed, their least profitable customer is probably the D+ in an inside cabin.

Not yo worry, Jim. If nothing is announced tomorrow, someone will be sure to post that the announcement is coming on June 15th, July 1st. September, 1st or next January when the revamped cruise credit that they have supposedly been working on, refining and polishing until it gleams, is due to be revealed, according to "those who really know".:D:rolleyes: Make enough predictions and one of them will eventually come true, something like the "blind squirrel' who eventually finds a nut.;)

 

Looks like this blind squirrel found the nut. No surprise to us. This is exactly what we were told would happen today. Anyone care to discuss next January's changes now?

Don't forget the free bag of laundry!

 

Where does it say we get free laundry. I haven't come across anything except laundry discount - which we already had. Show me a link. Help! I WOULD like that if it's true.

 

Never mind...I found it. I couldn't find it on my phone when looking earlier....it would be easier to use their web site on a phone if they would now come up with a mobile website or app. Here is what I found.....

An Onboard Booking Credit was available to every guest who booked while onboard. For instance, if you booked a 7-night Caribbean cruise you would have received a $100 onboard credit, or you could have used your Savings Certificate for an outside stateroom and saved $150, or you could have used your $200 Balcony & Suite Discount.

Now, the Onboard Booking Bonus is exclusive to Crown & Anchor Society Members. The announcement also confirmed what I was told, although I didn't know as much as you did. At least my info was accurate also.

 

So, yes, I would like to discuss the January changes.

Not really, although I remain curious as to what is so magical about January 1st that they have to wait until then to announce the rest of their plans.:rolleyes: I think most of us would rather read and absorb the changes announced today. You are right 'the blind squirrel finally found the nut'. He wasn't quite as fortunate on the previous dates when we were told that those changes would definitely be announced. Anyone care to go back over the past several months to see how many of those dates came and went without any announcement?

We sail in a little more than a week so perhaps we will see those changes when we are onboard.:)

My information is right 99% of the time. It's not my fault if the cruise line changes or delays it's plan. The majority of what I know I don't even share with this web site. Due to some idiots who continue to question what I post.

Haven't had time to do an in-depth comparison but it looks more like a case where RCI is following Celebrity's lead in upgrading its loyalty program benefits. Last year, when RCI took away several of the perks in the C&A program, Celebrity improved its program by adding free laundry and free internet time, as well as a nightly cocktail hour in Michael's club. At the time it appeared that RCCL was looking to encourage RCI's Diamond and D+ members to move over to X. Now it appears that they are leveling the field and the incentive to switch brands might be somewhat diminished. Increases in the balcony discount which are still not, I believe, available from Celebrity will be an increased incentive to remain loyal to Royal.:)

I'm sure that last sentence wasn't directed at me Tony. I'm sorry if I happen to be skeptical about some of the predictions, not yours, that pop up on these boards.

Hardly.

 

The most profitable customer are the ones that spend the most on their ENTIRE vacation. Quite often someone in a balcony will spend more onboard than someone in a suite. Sometimes an inside stateroom can generate more onboard income than that of one in a balcony.

Is the increase in balcony discount only for D + or is it for Diamond members as well. I still can't get the new benefit listing when I log in. It just says coming soon thanks

Quite often someone in a balcony will spend more onboard than someone in a suite. Sometimes an inside stateroom can generate more onboard income than that of one in a balcony.

 

I doubt that. Usually the balcony/GS spread is in the 2k range. The balcony cruisers would have to spend 2k onboard just to make up the difference in cabin pricing.

I also LOVE the idea of D+ Priority Seating for theater/ice/AquaTheater shows. We'll be traveling with my 1.5 yr old daughter in September, and we don't have to worry about getting to these shows 30-45 minutes early just to try to find a decent seat (all while keeping a 1.5 year old entertained)! I can't wait to read reviews in the coming months about how large of a VIP area is reserved, how good the seats are, how they monitor to make sure that non-D+ people don't sit there, etc.

You won't have to get there that early to get one of those seats but you will still have to get there at least 10 minutes before show time because at some point before the show begins, they will release those seats to the general population. Your seapass card will indicate your C&A level so that is how they will be able to identify you. :)

No they increased Diamond Balcony Discounts also......and it changes for everyone depending on if you book more than or less than 6 months from sailing.
