That is terrible, there should be a law that prohibits snow on a cruise ship. :D

Oasis in Europe why not? plenty of Deep water ports there unlike the Caribbean! and with berths long enough to tie up to! Venice would possibly be one place it would not be able to go to though.

I seem to recall someone from RCI saying that the Two Big ships probably would not go back to Turku for Drydocking which means looking elsewhere, although currently that would be the only option open to them right now.
Florida to Bermuda roundtrips but apparently the results were not as encouraging
We did Miami to Bermuda one-way on a TA in April 2008. Miami weather was nice (way better than Minnesota) but Bermuda was chilly and super windy. The extra distance north makes a huge difference. Bermuda is very temperate more so than tropical. Would make a nice change coming down from NYC area, especially in Spring or Fall, but too cool in mid-Winter. Might be a break from heat in Summer though. I can see where it would be more popular coming down from north that the otherway.

Anxiously wating for our next TA and getting to try a bigger ship than Radiance class. Oasis would be interesting but I would bet not the bargain other TAs are. Our fare on the next TA for 15 nights is less than the 7 night So. Carib. we did. I'm sure there would be a hefty premium for Oasis.

Personally I am suspecting Oasis/Allure will stay where they are (except for a drydock run) and the Sunshine ships will assume the roles of all Radiance ships in Caribbean freeing them for Europe/Med./Middle East and Asia markets. Routes that don't benefit as much from the kid friendly features on a destination ship.
It seems like the Oasis could easily do an itinerary like this (the 9 night holiday sailing with Bermuda instead of Labadee):

Day 1 Fort Lauderdale, Florida

Day 2 Cruising

Day 3 Cruising

Day 4 Kings Wharf, Bermuda

Day 5 Cruising

Day 6 Philipsburg, St. Maarten

Day 7 Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas

Day 8 Basseterre, St. Kitts

Day 9 Cruising

Day 10 Fort Lauderdale, Florida
There are more ports that are Oasis capable than they use (but so far only Fort Lauderdale is capable of being her home port):

Fort Lauderdale, USA+

Cape Liberty, USA

Philipsburg, St. Maarten-

Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas-

Nassau, Bahamas-

Labadee, Haiti-

Falmouth, Jamaica-

Cozumel, Mexico-

Costa Maya, Mexico-

Basseterre, St. Kitts-

San Juan, Puerto Rico

Ponce Port, Puerto Rico

Kings Warf, Bermuda

St. Johns, Antigue

+ = Already a home port

- = Already a port of call
These are just the ones I know, I'm sure their are more out their and even more that would become ready if RCCL promised the Oasis would arrive. If RCCL really wanted to go extreme how well would a cruise to Bermuda and Cape Liberty do? Would people in Florida (and international, remember Oasis class ships have the highest percentage of international passengers of all US ships) a cruise that stayed in Cape Liberty for a few days with complimentary water taxi service to NYC?
I would be very surprised if they put out a regular itinirary like that. Just from looking at a map that is a LOT of miles to cover to go up northeast to Bermuda, then back south to those caribbean islands. Just to add in Bermuda. I would think that would really jack up the price of the cruise (not to mention Bermuda's very high port charges and fees).

Oasis/Allure get marketed a lot to draw in new cruisers, most of which are people who will take 1 week off from work to go on the cruise, which doesn't help with the 9/5 night cruises (depending on how they arrange it). Plus with all the things to do, 5 nights seem like a short amount of time to cover the ship and really experience it.

I've not seen many stops for Ponce, is it actually big enough to handle so many passengers at one time? I remember going to Ponce like 15-20 years ago and don't remember it being such a big tourist area, though maybe it has grown a lot in that time.

But once it is confirmed by a reliable source, can it properly be called a "rumor" any more?;)
I still do not understand that tie between Bermuda and NYC. It seems like Fort Lauderdale is barely farther than NYC and Bermuda is Oasis ready.
NYC-Bermuda is 772 miles. FLL-Bermuda is 1029. Don't forget New York is much farther east than Florida. Fort Lauderdale is west of Pittsburgh!

Even so, I for one would be very interested in a Bermuda round-trip out of Florida. Alas, the cruise lines are not.

And they are not, apparently because not enough other people are interested in it and they have some previous experience to support their position. And believe it or not, Boston is approximately 773 miles from Bermuda, probably because it is even further East than NYC. :)

It is then no longer a rumor but it is then considered to be a fact, of course it might be an unreliable fact then it goes back to being a rumor from an unreliable source. That sums that up and now for the news at 7

Royal Caribbean and Puerto Rico are working to bring the Oasis to the country next year with Ponce as the intended destination. As part of the negotiations they already had 30 exclusive excursions to offer. They claim that it has a more central location with easy access to more destinations than San Juan. In my opinion their statements sounds very similar to how RCCL describes Falmouth.
Well, if that happens I will try to be on both transatlantic segments and sightsee in Europe at the end and start respectively.:)
For a port intensive Med cruise, I will probably select a smaller ship.
I wouldn't mind my first TA to be on Oasis.

I believe the Newport News Shipyard could handle an Oasis class ship.

The drydocks at Newport News can hold both the Nimitz class and Gerald R Ford class aircraft carriers. Which, granted, are about 100 feet shorter than the Oasis class ships. However, Dry Dock 12 is 2170 feet long and 250 feet wide and that is certainly large enough to hold Oasis or Allure.
Why should they move to Port Canaveral? It most certainly is logistically easier to get people from FLL to Port Everglades than it is from MCO to Port Canaveral. Except for people who may be driving I think the process of flying to a cruise is easier departing from Ft. Lauderdale.
Port Canaveral is building a new terminal for Carnival but they are also making the turning basin larger for bigger ships. I would asume the Oasis could wind up there in the future.

I agree with you about that. RCL is going to do what they have to to make money Port canaveral would be a great place if there were more to do around the port.
We sail out of there a lot but stay in Titusville because it is cheaper

While they could move Oasis. I am unsure why they would make such a move, unless the Port Canaveral authorities offered some substantial financial incentives to RCI for doing so. The advantages that Port Everglades holds over Port Canaveral are significant - access to two international airports, a facility that has demonstrated its ability to smoothly process some 24,000 passengers each weekend, closer proximity to its primary cruising destinations, and a wealth of local facilities (hotels, restaurants, casinos and other tourist attractions. Perhaps a case can be made to base one of the Project Sunshine ships in PC, but I am more than a bit skeptical of the likelihood of Oasis moving there any time soon.:)
