mouse1203 Posted September 13, 2011 #1 Share Posted September 13, 2011 I'm planning to book a surprise cruise for DH and I in December (Cozumel and Progresso) in the next couple of days. This is the first time for both of us, and I can't decide if it is worth the extra 100.00 to get the window. We usually don't hang out in our room, so I don't know. What are your thoughts? I appreciate your help!
FoghornLeghorn Posted September 13, 2011 #2 Share Posted September 13, 2011 for 100.00?? yes, I would enjoy the window...the view...the light.
Cruise Girl Forever Posted September 13, 2011 #3 Share Posted September 13, 2011 One thing that is nice about the window is in the morning you get the light. In an inside you loss track of time. But, I don't mind an inside at all as I only shower and sleep there.
Dayenu Posted September 13, 2011 #4 Share Posted September 13, 2011 Only $100 difference? Sure, get a window!
cb at sea Posted September 13, 2011 #5 Share Posted September 13, 2011 I agree! I HATE using electric light during the daytime!
John Bull Posted September 13, 2011 #6 Share Posted September 13, 2011 Having a window helps with orientation, with knowing whether its day or night, wet or fine, in port or at sea. And the natural light. Tried an inside cabin once, took advice about leaving the TV on, sound turned off, tuned to the ship's mast-head camera. It helped. But not a lot. Qchell Posted September 13, 2011 #7 Share Posted September 13, 2011 I have only cruised once and did not mind not having a window at all. When my husband and I were in the room we were usually resting and I have problems sleeping if there is any light at all - so I was very thankful to not have a window. Personally I would forego the window and save the $100 for one of the spa specials! For less than $100 I got a mini-facial, hand massage, and foot massage - now THAT was heaven and totally worth the money. :D
cruiseaholic777 Posted September 13, 2011 #8 Share Posted September 13, 2011 If it is only 100 i would get the window. You really do not need it but it is nice to have. 100 dollars is a cheap upgrade.
chipmaster Posted September 14, 2011 #9 Share Posted September 14, 2011 100 / day or 100 / person for the cruise. All depends on do you have to save on somethign else, excursion or what not. If I had to trade a excursion, never, if just for light from a small window, maybe not. Eletricity is free, 100 bucks is 100 bucks :D Food is the same, view from the deck is the same, service is the same, alarm clock is coming anyways, like I said I'm cheap. Underwatr Posted September 14, 2011 #10 Share Posted September 14, 2011 Window. Even if it's obstructed it tells you whether it's day or night.

trish1c Posted September 14, 2011 #13 Share Posted September 14, 2011 It's a personal choice. Inside cabins are great for sleeping b/c they are soooo dark. I get disoriented in them b/c I need the natural light to help me know what time it is. It's like seeing an afternoon movie in winter -- light when you go in & dark when you come out; always messes me up. If you do choose to save the $$, if you turn your TV to the bow cam channel & turn the sound off when you go to sleep, as the sun rises outside you will "see" it. Putterdude Posted September 14, 2011 #14 Share Posted September 14, 2011 Many people book interiors as it allows them to cruise more often or take more excursions. However, I could never convince DW to take an interior and for only $100...for sure take a window cabin.:)
Underwatr Posted September 14, 2011 #15 Share Posted September 14, 2011 I'd be more easily talked into an inside if the room had indirect lighting that varied with the time of day - so I'd know when to wake up and wen to sleep...

STARFISH*4 Posted September 15, 2011 #18 Share Posted September 15, 2011 if the budget is tight save the money for something for on the cruise--extra special dinner/spa or excursion and go ahead and book the inside cabin...if it isnt then go for the OV. whatever you decide ENJOY:)

Transatlantic Dvoika Posted September 15, 2011 #20 Share Posted September 15, 2011 We recently booked a quick January getaway cruise to the Bahamas and chose an inside cabin just to try it out. It wasn't really about the savings at all, but some comments here got me thinking..... Why not bring along a pseudo-window like this one?
jschm27 Posted September 15, 2011 #21 Share Posted September 15, 2011 If it's not going to break the bank, go for the window. But does that $100 buy you a view? I've seen some obstructed view cabins that look out onto the promanade then there is a steel bulkhead blocking all of your view of the ocean. You get to see all of the folks on the promanade walking by but not much else. John
Jhawktraveler Posted September 15, 2011 #22 Share Posted September 15, 2011 We have done both and enjoyed the cruises equally. As some have said, $100 means different things depending on your budget. We don't spend time in the room except to get ready in the morning, change clothes and sleep so to us the $100 would probably be better spent on port activities or drinks. The bridge cam channel on the TV worked well for letting us know what it was like outside when we had the inside cabin.
breeze123 Posted September 15, 2011 #23 Share Posted September 15, 2011 I would pay for the window!
MCC retired Posted September 15, 2011 #24 Share Posted September 15, 2011 OP didn't specify ship or cruise length . 2 ports ? Sounds like a short cruise . $100 is worth it for 7 night + but for a shorter cruise it may not be worth it ?
mouse1203 Posted September 15, 2011 Author #25 Share Posted September 15, 2011 Thanks for the advice. The 100.00 gives us a guaranteed window, but we can't pick the room. To have the light, it may be worth it. It's a 5 day cruise on Carnival Elation.
