How cheap can you be?

Well, of course it is -- just as it's up to a person to decide whether they are going to have an affair with the boss's wife, and then murder the boss.

Or just steal the company's stamps/paper/pens/scissors/whatever.

A person can (in fact, MUST) justify their actions so that they can sleep at night, but said justification doesn't make the action any more legal, or right.

Every company makes pricing decisions to compensate for the hidden costs of doing business, such as overhead costs, bad checks and, yes, theft. So all of their customers get to pay more for the immoral decisions & actions of some... regardless of whether those individuals in question believe they are or are not doing something wrong. As someone else has already written in this thread, thanks for that.

And I hope you have a good day, too. (Just wanted to get that in before this thread gets shut down!)

If you saw my old boss's wife you wouldn't say such a thing.

If it walks like a troll, and talks like a troll, it should be ignored like a troll.

I'm only confirming the actions of a few on board. If we all did it they would do away with the unlimited program altogether.

It is not surprising to CC veterans that someone would go online to proudly report their method of stealing. It is surprising, to me at least, that they would claim it is not really stealing, since the cruise line must factor in the cost of the stealing when they price the item.

Come to think of it, most retail stores factor in the cost of stealing. Hmm, I've got to give this a little thought. Where should I shoplift first? Perhaps a store which doesn't have an electronic monitor at the door. After all, if they don't take precautions, they must not care.

I'm beginning to think that there's a troll in our midst -- either that or just a very thick-headed poster. Either way, it's a shame....

Yes, this is indeed a shame. That someone would post that they condone stealing and then try to repeatedly defend the practice as acceptable, or are just stirring things up to have some fun at the expense of those of us who have a normal sense of what is right or wrong, it speaks volumes about the anti-social moral values this miserable individual must have. Reminds me of an immature child making fun of someone who is different than them. An example of the underbelly of society.

This certainly wasn't the way my parents raised me. Too bad the poster's parents were deficient in that area of responsibility.

Just got off the Solstice on Nov. 28. We met a couple who spent $31 between them for a 12 day cruise. I think that is pretty cheap.

I saw a documentary yesterday that stated that a cruise needed about $7.50 per person per day to make a profit. I don't begrudge the cruise its profit. They make their profit on us.

Somehow I have a feeling that Celebrity and their RCL parent have a profit target somewhat higher than $7.50/day per person. At least in terms of gross on board sales per person.

The Company's financial statements show gross revenues (Sales) for onboard spending were $57 per passenger per day in 2010. I don't know if they include gratuities in that figure or not but I'd guess not since these are distributed to the staff even if they are collected by the cruise line.

I don't begrudge the cruise line its profit either. If they don't make a profit then they won't exist. If someone doesn't like their prices then they shouldn't cruise with them.

Yea, old mom would approve. Even she liked to save a buck where she could. Anyway drinking a soda that coast them only a few pennies is still cheaper than drinking juice all day long. They should pay me to drink their soda since I'm saving them money each glass I drink. :p

Aren't you the same poster on Princess that brags about how you beat the system re wine/alcohol drinks? Obviously, you like stirring up trouble. Have you thought of volunteer work or something else to do with your time? :D

I'm certain that poster would be appalled if just one percent of what he brags about stealing was taken from him

Going back to the original subject of being cheap, my wife and I were sitting at the bar (on another line) and up walked another couple. They ordered two "world cruise cocktails".

Puzzled, and always willing to try something new, we scanned the cocktail menu but couldn't find the new concoction. By this time, they had walked away with their drinks, so we asked the barman. He chuckled and then went on to explain.

Apparently, a world cruise cocktail is a glass of tap water, with ice. It's a favourite among a select group of the tightwads who are usually the first up to the purser's desk to cancel the automatic gratuities, make maximum use of room service and gorge themselves in the buffet.

Gave me a laugh. :)

I don't think of it as bragging so much as passing on information to people who really want to know an answer for a question. Of course if the answer doesn't sit well with you then please stop reading them.

Also, I have never had a problem with taking on alcohol aboard any cruise ship. Many people do likewise & most don't seem to have any problem with it. There are various methods of "beating" the system but that's another subject altogether for another thread.

Have a good day.....time to clean the pool. :p

I guess I could also be considered cheap in that I have been on a 12 day cruise and spent less than $75.00 on board. I don't often drink alcoholic drinks and my soft drinks are limited to an occasional ginger ale if I'm feeling a little quesy (sp?). Personally, I much prefer to drink water.

I don't have a need to spend money on souveniers or jewellery or art. I might go to one or two bingo sessions but that's about it. For the most part, I don't spend a lot of money on "extras" in my everyday life so my spending behaviour on board is not any different than what my everyday life is. Having said that, if I do want an alcoholic drink or a can of pop, I prefer to be a law abiding citizen and pay the asking price as opposed to cheating, conniving or stealing from the cruise line. Actually, if one does cheat, connive or steal from the cruise line, they are also cheating, conniving and stealing from all the passengers on board because we all bear the cost of their actions.

Oh, and let me also say that because I cruise solo, the cruise line is making at least some profit on the extra 100% I pay for my single supplement. That'll probably more than make up for the fact that I don't spend all that much on board.

You are some piece of work. I wonder what else you justify doing as long as it's informational for others: how to walk out of a restaurant without paying for your meal? how to cheat on your taxes? how to cut to the front of the line? how to talk someone doing something they will regret later? how to switch price tags on expensive items? I guess in your disfunctional mind you must think you are providing a valuable public service.

But you really do have to admire the ability of this guy/gal to always pass the blame on to others.

I think the real problem is not so much that he/she is a crook, but rather is one of those persons who never will admit to having written something wrong. We see these types on CC all the time. It really doesn't matter how wrong they are, factually or morally, they will never admit to it being their error.

This doesn't really bother me. (we'll all just assume that was in addition to the gratuities). A cruiseline sold them a cabin at a specific fare, and they didn't have needs/wants/desired outside of what they already paid for. No issues for me, regardless on what those who are the paper pushers are hoping they will spend.

I've certainly had cruises where I've spent very little, especially if I wasn't drinking. Or the most recent cruise, where I spent more than my fare!

Not sure of that is the best example. If an old lady got between me and the last Celebrity waffle, she may be in trouble!:D

Not a big waffle person...but if we are talking about the last piece of bacon......Granny's Goin' Down !!!!! :)

At my wife's company's holiday party last Friday, I was talking with one of her coworkers about cruising. She told me that the way she saves money on soft drinks was to reuse the card from her prior cruise(s). I bit my lip and changed topics. But is this really possible? I wonder how common this may be. Just looking for comments.

I think someone was pulling your leg. The Sea Pass cards arre time sensitive and are only good for that particular cruise.

Hi Tink:) your description of how much you choose to spend

(or not spend) is not in the same category as what most folks

are talking about on here. Being a solo cruiser myself? Most of

my bill is liquor as I don't buy any photos or souveniers either;)

I will try the specialty restaurants and possibly (depending

on itinerary) buy a ship sponsered excursion. I don't think the

price of your bill (or mine) being lower has anything to do with

"under the table tactics" being described on here.

Have a great time on Constellation:)

I had a card on my RCI cruise and many times you flashed the card in front of a bartender and nobody questioned it or scanned it. Most of the time they didn't. Though, I did have the cup.

Again, I think its very possible, especially with the large ships.

I can beat that for cheapness....DH and I were on a 1-week cruise, and our bill was $9.

We're not cheapskates....there was just nothing we needed. We'd done exactly the same cruise 4 weeks previously, and this one was a last-minute cheapie.

We had some OBC from the TA, and only drink wine...our 2 bottles were enough for the week (we're not big drinkers!)

We spent a little in the casino, and brought some sodas onboard,( the cruiseline doesn't do our favourite)

I know the cruiseline needs our money to survive, but there really was nothing to spend money on!!

So, you just advocate and promote theft for informational purposes only. Oh, that's ok then.

I lol'd :D

Seriously why do people go through all this trouble to save a few bucks. I know, it's a rhetorical question, but I find it just silly why people feel the need to break rules even to steal something of little or no value. Lame!
