They did right after the pandemic start-up.  It lasted for about a year.

I step forward and many backwards. Oh well, it's what it is and won't stop us from cruising with Princess or any other cruise line that allows limited inside smoking. We are just glad the no smoking on balconies is shared by the cruise lines we cruise with.

awww boy, you think that after 12 years and 1550 post's, that the well traveled folks that have contributed to this thread would have noticed, that just because it's done in America it should be done all over the world. There are many health practices adopted in  North America that are not common in other countries. Since the cruise industry is international both in passenger /crew and travels, it would behoove them to cater to the percentage, (even if small one)  of tobacco smokers and or vapors. The last cruise I was on in the south Pacific had the highest amount of smokers  I've seen enjoying  one another's company on deck seventeen aft. The casino was off limits to them 👍 but, if these folks want to partake in this type of activity knowing risks, it's their choice.

Worldwide, most would agree that people have the right to smoke no matter how dangerous it is. The majority also don’t smoke and it’s not unreasonable to expect that smoking in indoor shared spaces should be prohibited.

I'm old enough to have seen the many changes with the travel and entertainment industries with regards to smoking. Remember the good old unenlightened days when smoking was allowed on airplanes? I do, and if you were a non-smoker you still ended up taking in about half a pack's worth of smoke. The airlines would designate certain rows in the back as smoking, as if there was some magical, invisible barrier between Rows 25 & 26 where the smoke could not cross? And or course, guess where the lavatories are at?

I remember when the bars & restaurants went smoke-free several years ago, the business owners were predicting Armageddon but they're just as busy as they always were. I remember when there  were separate smoking sections in restaurants, I felt bad for the servers that had to work in them as they could not refuse to do it if they wanted to stay employed.

I almost died laughing last week when a smoker on here claimed that by allowing them to smoke in the casino they were somehow subsidizing the cost of my cruise with their gambling and that I should be thankful, and leave it alone as it's "their area"? Really? I don't gamble but I might want to see what it's all about anyway? And I don't recall on my last cruise statement seeing anything about a casino subsidy credit...

It’s been proven over and over again that eliminating indoor smoking does not harm businesses. Celebrity is a great example. Their ships have been completely indoor smoke free for nearly 20 years and their ships are full, as are Princess ships sailing smoke-free in Australia and New Zealand.

Does anyone know about the cigar lounge on Discovery Princess, are they closing that one too?

This is my 2 cents worth. The cigar lounge disappeared on the Ruby during drydock, and seemingly

that would appear to be the 'master' plan. (I was on the Emerald in December, and a gentleman I spoke with mentioned that he had heard that it too would be losing it's cigar lounge during DD in April of 2025.)

The Discovery Princess is a very new ship, and isn't slated for drydock until October 29, 2025, until November 17, 2025.

Again, I'm really just speculating, but my money is on the elimination of cigar lounges fleet wide, and the timeline for drydock interruptions.

Hope this helps.

Thank You, DH will be sad to hear this, might have to take him on Discovery one more time, before dry dock.  Also wondering about the Grand Princess (DH and I met on that ship).

Expand

The Grand has an 'undefined' sailing window in 2025, April 16 to May 5th. Beyond and before that, I don't see a break in her sailings.

This  could be a dry dock time.

What I'm seeing is Princess is converting the dedicated enclosed smoking lounges into arcades.  So if smokers want to smoke inside going forward, we'll be in the casino, probably not gambling or playing so slow as to be not gambling.  It'll become our smoking lounge.

A step backwards if you ask me.

The lounge is/was a cigar lounge. If it was being used for cigarettes not cigars that might be a reason they are removing them. Hopefully the same end result will happen in the casino if cigarette smokers are in there using it as a smoking area and not gambling. Princess will come to their senses and end smoking in the casino.

Agree.

Smokers such as yourself using the casino as a smoking lounge is nothing new. Princess has always allowed it.  Even when the casino is closed to gambling. The smokers are not a fault here. It is an authorized smoking area.

Glad Princess is removing Churchills. But turning them into arcades!! 👎

Yup.  I don’t remember the ship (seems like it was the Emerald). Used to have tables by the bar where you could smoke cigarettes (before they instituted smoking only while gambling) and cigars were only allowed in Churchills  (until the post Covid re-start).  Non smokers don’t realize that we had our own battle between cigar and cigarette smokers, when it came to Churchills.  Personally I couldn’t stand cigars, but if I chose to go to Churchills in inclement weather, I was in their turf.  I was so shocked when I met my husband at the aft smoking area (he was smoking a cigar) and found out that they were now allowed at the aft.  He was shocked when I told him they were never allowed there (he’s a newer cruiser).  After they re-opened Churchills it became one of his favorite places, guess I’ll have to take him on the Grand one last time.  Hopefully someone can confirm that it is still open “for now”.

Oh well for every action…..

You posted while I was talking, so the Grand is or has removed it?

The policy is that smoking is only permitted while actively playing at slot machines.

According the current Princess website, deck 6, "Snookers Cigar Lounge" . Just before the theater.

they where actively enforcing the only smoking while gambling on regal.  It does seem to vary by ship.  One time a game I like to play was only on the smoking side by a door.  People would roll in there and chain smoke a few without playing.  That was kind of annoying and seemed to make the air quality way worse.

Tell that to the staff in the casino and when in port. 😂

Wow, I’ve seen lots of people smoking without actively playing while the casino is open but in ten cruises since they brought back smoking in the casino, I’ve never seen anyone use it as a smoking lounge when the casino is closed.

Why are you glad princess is removing smoking lounges?  A confined space where smoke is contained isn't good enough?

Now we WILL use the casino as a smoking lounge.  Princess has expanded the smoking section in every casino where the smoking lounges have been removed.  All of casinos now have larger smoking sections.  Happy now?

I am on the Crown now the door to the smoking lounge is constantly opening so it might as well be in ther casino itself

We just did 63 days on Grand Princess. (Disembarked November 29.) I attended a Whisky Tasting in that venue and it had not been converted to an arcade.

Does anyone know how much of the casino on most ships has been designated smoking?

A minimum of 1/2 of all slot machines usually a little more. No smoking at the bar or table games
