Nachi Cocom

Just returned yesterday from the cruise, what a great experience both on the ship and at nachi cocom. For those that wanted info I'll write a "review" of my experience.

Got off the ship about 10am and made our way down the pier through the gauntlet of people wanting to sell you things, really wasn't too bad since there were so many people that just got off the ship.

There is a nice little exit/taxi station setup when you come to the end which has a board that actually lists prices for destinations in USD, nachi cocom is listed at $15 for 1-4people. English speaking guy asked us where we were going and pointed us to a van with a driver standing next to it and told the driver Nachi Cocom. The driver was very nice, opened doors and put down a wooden step for us to get into the van (which really wasn't needed but he did anyway) - he held a conversation most of the way there and was pretty fluent in English.

It was about a 10-15 minute ride down the road which was big wide main type road with higher speeds, about 60mph I'd guess. Pulled up to a gated entrance with little guard shack where the driver and guard exchanged words and then down a narrow dirt road to the parking lot/entrance.

He went around the parking lot and pulled up right in front of the entrance where he came around and opened the doors and put down the wooden step again. I was the last one out and I slipped him a $20 and told him to have a great day.

Before we were even out of the van a younger lady greeted us and lined us up for the (what seemed non-optional) sombrero photo which was kind of fun. She snapped two photos and walked us up to the check in desk where we were asked for our reservation and remaining balance which I had. I made it a point to have the exact amount that was owed when we went to avoid any issue with change, not that there would have been but just in case. Everything checked out and we were awarded our purple wristbands.

Carlos was our waiter and showed us to our chairs making sure they were cleaned off with no sand before we sat down. Instantly took our orders for drinks and was back within a couple minutes. We all had multiple bottles of water, local beers, "miami vices", and "dirty monkeys" all of which were great.

Note about the drinks, the "miami vice" is a strawberry drink with rum in it. The dirty monkey as already mentioned in this thread has banana taste too it. I had tasted some of the fruity drinks on the ship and could always tell instantly there was rum in them. Here you could tell but i don't think they put quite as much alcohol in their drinks. It was only about 10:30am so maybe the bartender was just warming up..? lol

About 30 minutes after arriving Jaime came around offering their on-site excursion type things, snorkeling, massage, and parasailing from what I remember. We were interested in the snorkeling because we missed out on water in the caymans and jamaica so we told him we wanted to do the snorkeling but not until the afternoon since they were going out at 11 and we just got there. He said ok, he would come back and get us around 1.

Right after that the young lady that took our picture came around with a pretty decent photo of the 4 of us. We actually all looked normal and were smiling, so we bought two of them. $12 for 1, or $20 for 2.

Carlos brought us the food menu around 1130-12 i guess, we ordered the following: nachos, guacamole, cheese sticks, fresh grouper, mexican quesadillas, beef and chicken fajitas. Everything was awesome! nicely and neatly prepared. Clean plates and silverware too.

The reason I say there wasn't much alcohol in the drinks is because at the point we ate lunch and decided we were going snorkeling at 1pm I had already downed 4 miami vices and half of my GF's who didn't want to drink anymore before going snorkeling. I wasn't really "feeling it" one bit but whatever, they were good. We finished eating lunch and waited for Jaime to come back around, he did right about 1 and asked if we were ready. We paid $38/ea which really wasn't too bad considering the ships excursions were twice the price.

We made our way to the pier where there were already 3 other people on the boat waiting. We had the boat driver and a "certified" diver with us, i'm not sure if he was actually certified but he seemed like he knew what he was doing. We spent about 20 minutes on the boat and about an hour in the water. It was beautiful out there, 25-30ft crystal clear water. We stopped in two places and saw: about a dozen or more barracuda, some rays, lots of other fish that were close enough to touch, and near the end a 3-5ft nurse shark. Was one of my highlights of the entire trip was just that snorkeling trip.

Came back to the shore, thanked the guys and went back to get more water and drinks. I would say we were ready to leave about 430, asked Carlos how we could get a taxi and he said he would take care of it. Less than 5 minutes later he said the taxi was here and ready for us. Another $15 + $5 tip for the taxi back to port, flash your seapass card for the security by the taxi station/entrance to port and you're back in the gates. Just follow the gauntlet back the way you came and make your way back to the ship. It was about 5pm as we were going through there so most of the vendors were pretty much done and keeping to themselves at that point so it wasn't too bad at all. We actually got on the ship and dropped off our snorkeling gear, towels etc and got back off about 5:30 to shop around and see what was being offered. GF picked up a nice photo frame for about $10 then we called it a day and got back on the ship.

Other notes.. about Nachi Cocom, there may have been 100 people there the day we went but you would have never known - everything is pretty spread out.

I would say there was never more than 10-15 people in the water at one time so you didn't have to worry about being around people if you wanted to relax in the water.

I saw two kids, probably around age 4-6 but never heard a peep out of them.

The bathrooms were surprisingly clean with nice counters and stalls with doors in the mens. -Only down side is that they are right next to the gift shop (which is just a walk up window) and the excursion place so if you walk in front of there they will surely ask if you're interested. However once you've said no thanks to everyone working there they get the picture.

The pool with swim up bar was very clean and I never saw more than a few people in it. The hot tub is marked for adults only which was kind of nice but it was too hot to be sitting in 100+deg water.

They offer internet/wifi for $5 for the entire day which is great considering what the ships cost. If you had a laptop or tablet you could probably sit by the bar and check mail or whatever. I doubt they had AP's way out by the beach though.

As far as tipping goes.. I made the mistake of not bringing enough cash with me because I didn't anticipate doing the snorkeling thing. I did not tip the snorkel instructor which I felt terrible about considering there was only 5 of us and he kept going down to the bottom to pull up conch's and show us rays. I only had $40 left, and had already decided I was leaving Carlos $20 for myself and the GF because he was awesome. The other $20 I needed to get back to the port so I was kind of stuck. The $20 tip was well received and appreciated, I'm not sure what the going rate for a tip was but he kept our glasses full and always was friendly.

We are already looking at planning another western caribbean next year and the GF has already said she would love to go back there again and I feel the same way. If you're on a 7 day and you've been doing all kind of stuff up to that point it's a nice way to just hit the brakes and just relax for the day. As far as the food/drink being "safe" to eat, none of us got sick or anything weird after eating or drinking there - again the place was very clean and well kept.

The only gripe I had about the place (which isn't that big of deal and could have been resolved if we mentioned it early enough) was the loungers where we were seated were on a decline towards the water and I kept sliding forward in mine. After snorkeling I decided to use my sandals to push sand under the front legs and try to level it out a little bit and that helped. Not something I'd bring up if I were asked about the place though, just an FYI :)

So that's my play by play for those of you that like to read! Now book it so you too can enjoy the place :D

Awesome and very informative review. We go in Nov. and cannot wait. Thanks so much for giving so much helpful info!!!!

How wheelchair accessible is Nachi? I can handle a few steps but not like a staircase...I would love to swim some too..

Ehh, not so much. I remember walking on the wood planks just to get in the place and they are very uneven, off by 4-5" in places because I remember looking at them thinking "if we were in the USA that would be a lawsuit waiting to happen" lol

I mean if you could make it over that area there is a ramp to get up under the big hut where there are tables and chairs. I think if you were able to walk over that bridge (which is about 10' wide) then you could make your way under the giant hut and be fine. I'm sure if someone helped you that you could make it to the loungers but I'm not sure how comfortable it would be.

I can tell you for a fact the mens bathroom was not wheelchair accessible, the stall doors were very narrow.

Hope this help! :D

  • 2 weeks later...

I just got back and had a very different experience...90 people booked. Loungers were very uncomfortable with hard plastic slats and no pad. Moved to pool area and sat in a wrought iron chair with padded seat. Used another seat for the back. I put my feet up on another chair. Umbrellas at pool were only over the tables with the wrought iron chairs. I suppose I could have pulled a lounger over but it was a little cramped to do that.

A group of about 10 rowdy 20 y/o's were playing chicken in the pool. For hours.

At the other end a group was gathered by the swim up bar and they were having a lot of fun. It was fun to watch adults having so much fun!

Drinks strong and yummy. Sometimes it was hard to get the attention of the waiter. Saw several people have to go to the bar to get waited on for food or drinks. I got the fajitas and they were way too chewey. The guacamole was nothing but mashed avocado. Salsa was extremely HOT!

The entrance was all weedy, nothing like the manicured lawn I saw at Paradise Beach as we passed it.

Only one stall in the BR had paper. Mentioned this to a staff member who didn't seem to care and didn't attend to it.

Shared a cab with 3 others and paid $6.

I was disappointed. Not a great experience for many of us that day.

Well this is disappointing after all the positive things I've read I was getting ready to book this place.

Do you have any pictures you can share?

We've been twice and the experience related above is very different (except for the unattractive parking lot - who cares?) from what we experienced. Both times we had great service, great food, lots of wonderful drinks, nice weather, and not much of a crowd to deal with.

I can understand the poster being unhappy when a large and loud group took over what he thought would be a quiet, uncrowded, relaxing beach club. Good luck! :)

What the heck is a dirty monkey? We are booked for the week after next and I need to know if I want one ! HELP . ;-)

It's an alcoholic drink. I assume it's something like a dirty banana that we had in Jamaica (when someone once posted the ingredients it looked the same) and they were yummy! :D

Rum, creme de bananes, creme de cacao, Kahlua, milk -- when at Nachi I usually enjoy one or more of these for breakfast! :D

I guess to each their own. Can't really fault the beach club for having younger people in the pool having a good time but I understand how the noise may have been annoying.

I'm pretty anal about things and I didn't even notice weeds at the entrance.. there was grass and a big sign that said beach club.. Again, to each their own - but them having a perfectly maintained area of grass at their entrance was probably near the end of my list.

I would have loved to have stronger drinks, I'll ask next time.. Mine were pretty weak!

I too had the fajitas, and they were the best (most authentic) I've ever had. Corn tortillas are normally more chewy than flour from what I've had but nothing jumped out at me. Maybe I was too busy noticing the flavor of everything to pay attention to the tortilla. I really enjoyed the guacamole and salsa as well.. Maybe it's just me

The loungers were not the most comfortable I've ever sat on but with a towel from the ship I could have easily fallen to sleep in one (and almost did). Then again different ages and body types play a big role in chair comfort so this is really a moot point, they are hard plastic chairs.

I finally started messing with some of our pictures.. Oh how great it is to be back to reality with very little time for anything..

i left these full size so people could see the detail of things so i'll just link them rather than posting them in the thread.

Wow thanks for the awesome pictures. I'm so glad you left them in a large size. I hate when they get resized and you can't really tell what they are.

I have a question about the wifi picture. Can you only get wifi if you are sitting in that spot? Or is even really wifi or plug in? I was just wondering since it says that it cost to use it. Do they give you a password or something to sign on after paying?

We are a group of 11 from ages 12 to 70 would this be for us? Looking for a laid back good time

Not sure the 12-year old will like it as much as the 70-year old, but if you want to relax, enjoy the beach and pool, and experience good food, good service, and good food in an all-inclusive beach club, Nachi is the place. Pick out a lounge chair in the shade, admire the beautiful view, crack open a good book, and enjoy a couple of dirty monkeys for breakfast! :D

Thanks for the pictures. Now I'm very hungry and anxious for my Cozumel day at this very nice resort. Any pictures of the drinks:D

Thanks for sharing your comments and pictures.

I would assume the wifi is only available around the front area and maybe by the pool. I highly doubt they have access points further out by the beach. They probably have it locked and give you a password (if i had to guess) its a pretty good deal compared to what the ship charges.

My GF got the grouper and she loved it. She is normally critical on how much they over season fish and for her to say it was good means it probably was pretty good - haha.

I think the place would be good for any age as long as you have someone in the group entertaining the kids. Were in our mid-late 20's and thought the place was perfect, then again were not the party type.

Just curious: It says all inclusive, but the menus I saw a picture of had prices for food. Are those extra items not included?

As this will be the last stop on our western caribbean I have a feeling that if we go to Nachi Cocum I will make the most out of the complimentary drinks and sleep very well when we get back to the ship :-D

The prices listed there mean nothing if you pay the $55 and have the all inclusive package. I'm not 100% sure why they even list them unless they allow people who do not have an all inclusive package in the place and pay as you go? Or For accounting type purposes to see how much the average customer consumes to figure what they need to charge to make money. The prices listed on the menu are in pesos too, not USD. That should be obvious though :D

Eat.. Drink.. Enjoy.. Then go back to the ship and eat and drink more :D

So then I'm just wondering about the food...

Is it actually ALL you can eat? Or do they just let you pick like maybe a starter and an entree? Or can you order as much as you want or get a second round?

I have researched several places for Cozumel and I can't remember if this was the one that someone was saying you got an arm band and that "told them" somehow if you've ate or not? Did you get an arm band?

You choose from an appetizer, a main course, and a dessert -- it is not an all you can eat buffet -- but the portions are large and we've never left there hungry (or thirsty :D). As mentioned above, ignore the prices on the menu when you are on the AI plan. Good luck! :)

Mitsugirly, I'm actually going to Mr. Sanchos in November. They have an all you can eat and drink. They don't limit the number of people like Nachi does and has the water toys so probably geared more towards family but I will have kids. Price wise, if you book through shore excursioneer dot come, the price for adults is only $45. $10 cheaper then Nachi. My kids are only $35 so thats a price savings too.

Look it up on shore excursioneer and you will see the menu for both food & drinks. I was hesitant to spend that much for my family but being in Cozumel from 9-5, I'm hoping we'll get our moneys worth.

Good reviews here too so maybe something for you to check out.
