Calling all Diamond Plus members! Tell me what your favorite diamond plus perk is!

Recommended Posts

Thanks for all of your replies! I wasn't aware of the buy one get one in a specialty restaurant the first night. I just booked a 4 night on the Monarch for next week, will reach D+ for our Sept. 30th cruise on the Freedom. Can you make reservations before you get on board or do you have to do it after?

Also, we love the diamond lounge on the Freedom class and higher...I am wondering what the difference is between that and the CL?

Also, I see we get to pick a nice bottle of wine for either our cabin or the dining room...do each of us get that if we are both D+? Meaning 2 bottles?

The DL (on the Freedom) is really nicer than the CL. As D+ member, and recent Freedom cruiser (Just a few weeks ago), we never got any CL information letter, only the Diamond letter. In fact – we thought we might not have CL access – but did try and our sea pass cards worked. We went 4 or 5 nights during the cruise ( at different times because of other places we wanted to be) and both lounges we very crowded. Only got a seat in the CL one night. In fact – they had a D lounge overflow in one of the card rooms. We seem to use the lounges more during the day (for specially coffee or a quiet place to sit and relax) than for drinks anyway.

As for the BOGO, we booked Chops for 1 (per the suggestion on the boards) but that seemed to throw a curve to the staff regarding the billing for 2 with the coupon and a pre paid booking. They had to charge for 2, remove 1 with the coupon and total refund my pre booked meal. Chops was not crowded and we probably could have waited to book on board.

One bottle, and if you plan to drink it in the dining room, have it sent there. They will change a corkage fee for you to bring the Crown and Anchor stateroom wine to the dining room (strange but true) but you can bring any dining room wine back to the stateroom.

Also - check the welcome basket preferences to see if those change at D+

Enjoy

Free drinks every night on a 14 night transatlantic cruise was fantastic. You'd never get an onboard credit to equal that.

At one drink per person per night ( maybe - as we sometimes never make it to the lounge in the evening, or it is too crowded to get a seat) , the 14 night D+ discount might be better for us.

On the last cruise, we used the BOGO wine to get some decent wine in Vintages rather than fight the crowds at the CL or DL.

In any case – the perks are very generous and just using a few - adds up.

  • 1 year later...
Well I for one am grateful for all of the perks...and I have loved being diamond and cannot wait for diamond plus. It truly does keep me loyal to royal. I used to love carnival but I am vip with them and hardly get anything for it!

I am happy with all the perks and especially love being able to access the CL on Oasis and Allure. On the Freedom class ships we prefer the Diamond lounge.

Enjoy your cruises while on your way to D+!

I usually travel solo so the buy one get one free dinner, doesn't help.

I was on Oasis a couple weeks ago, When I got onboard I went to Chops. I said I was D+ traveling solo and would like to use my BOGO coupon. Was there anything I could do. They said just come to first night, pay the $30, and then come back another night at no charge. So, that's what I did:D

Meeting other well travelled people in the CL.

If by "well travelled" you mean "paid more for a suite and have access to the CL", then OK. But if by "well travelled" you mean "experienced" you will likely find that more in the DL, as that is exlusive to D, D+, and Pinnacle members. And you can only become that by completing many cruises. A CL passenger could be a "one and done" cruiser who booked his only cruise with RCI and booked it in a suite. :)

It's been a while since we've been on a Royal Caribean ship so I don't remember for sure, but is the free laundry that folks are talking about here for D+ from a coupon in the D+ book, or is it one of the regular perks? (I looked on the website at the list of perks and didn't find it there.). Can anyone help supplement my memory a bit?

The D+ laundry perk is a coupon in the D+ book. The coupon gives one free wash and fold bag. This is a bag that comes usually once per 7 day cruise and allows only certain items like socks, t-shirts, underwear, shorts, etc. All you can stuff in the bag.

Whether D+ are allowed breakfast and lunch seating (no menus) in a specialty restaurant varies by ship. Previous to our recent Freedom cruise, I had never seen that. Only gold card pax have been allowed this perk (which includes cooked to order breakfast) on all other ships I have sailed, which is several. Gold cards are issued to GS and above pax and Pinnacle members. Also varied by ship is whether D+ is also allowed in the reserved theater seating.

Here's hoping that we MIGHT get 2 bags on our 15-day PC cruise (?!!!?) Is that possible or is it simply one coupon per person per trip? It would make packing SO-O-O-O-O much easier.

You might actually get 3 bags on the 14 day trip. However, you only get free bag coupon per person. The normal cost of the bag is $25 without a coupon. Also, many people have reported being able to get a bag whenever they want by asking their stateroom attendant.

We are both D+ and could only use one bag. I thought it was one per stateroom but could definitely be wrong! :)

Breakfast - when in a GS or above, we can do Portofino for breakfast due to suite. For JS or below, we can use the Diamond reserved area off the MDR which varies by ship.

Yep - CL is preferred by us as the best perk. But ALL are definitely used - when you add up a bottle of wine, free laundry, balcony discount, 2 free photos, free internet, and the various other coupons (drinks, casino) it is a nice little sum.

We're new D+ members & were thinking about skipping he CL. After reading this thread I've changed my mind! What makes breakfast/lunch special in the CL? Are there better selections?

The made to order breakfast/lunch in the CL is only available on Oasis and Allure. Other ships have a continental breakfast and no lunch. The menu selections in the Oasis/Allure CL are not that much different than the MDR, but they do have complimentary soda and beer at lunch.

Here is a different twist. I find most very frequent cruisers are the least well traveled of all. Most of them don't spend more than a day at the embarkation port and prior to the cruise will simply do a hop on hop off bus. That is not travel. If I ever hear another one say, "we've been to this port before so we don't get off" I'll say what I always say - which is plenty and I won't get into it now. :D

We've taken to spending time out at the other bars and just paying for a drink. We like to meet first time cruisers. Some of them are young and just beginning their travel life. But in the CL a first time suite cruiser is often times VERY well traveled and has spent plenty of land time around the USA or in other countries. Since we like to spend usually from 3 - 5 days both before and after a cruise one land, these are the well traveled passengers we get ideas from.

Certainly those who spend most of their time on a ship and don't get off in the ports aren't the ones I would consider to be well traveled.

If I never see another HOHO bus again it will be fine with me. I seriously hate them.

Our next RC cruise will be our first as D+ - we're most looking forward to the buy one get one free dinner in speciality restaurant on the first night.

But it is not just for first night dining, which is great, for the usual problems in the MDR. You just have to book a specialty dinner on the first night/day, and you can go any day.

Not all ships allow it to be used that way. It pretty much depends of the restaurant manager. The usual RCI inconsistency you might say.
