Carnival Lover Just Back Today from First Disney Cruise

Recommended Posts

I went on my first Disney cruise with a friend (no kids) and got back today. I must say that Disney really does it right with kids' programs. I have always had great, friendly crew members on all my cruises (I've done 5 different cruise lines but am VIP with Carnival). Again, Disney was over the top with friendliness.

I wasn't wowed by the ship - Disney Magic. It was bland and boring looking. However, it was very easy to find my way around. Food was good but no better and no worse than other ships. Service in the dining room was faster than on Carnival since Carnival servers have more tables to tend to. I had a great time on the cruise, but I came back knowing that CARNIVAL IS STILL MY FAVORITE CRUISELINE!.

We did Disney this past January and it was great. Entertainment is top notch! Food was spectacular too! Only downside was our kids did not like the kid programs. Definitely will be cruising Disney again, but we cruise the Valor over this Thanksgiving.

My next cruise is on the Disney Dream. I always wanted to give them a try because I like the way they create their ships to resemble the old ocean liners. Plus they do somethings a bit different and I thought it would be a nice change. Oh yea, I have always been curious about Castaway Cay. My mom and I cruise together sometimes since I get more time off then my partner. She said it sounded like fun so we booked it. Neither one of us are really into Disney, but figured why not?

Our last cruise was the Disney Wonder. Looking forward to experiencing the differences.

Being able to bring on our own alcohol made our 5 day cruise have exactly $40 in charges to our 4 person account at cruise end. And that was Bingo!

I always wondered why they were so expensive, not enough liquor sales...

And no casinos to offset some of their "losses!":D We loved Disney ships when the kids were young. Now that they are older, they prefer CCL. I also can't justify the price of Disney now. When we first cruised with them, we spent $1800 for a "family" balcony cabin for 7 days - high season. (which was a lot of money at that time, but we splurged.) I keep pricing their cabins, and get prices ranging from 6-8,000 for the same cabin we had in 1998! Someday, my ship will come....:p

One of the few (out of US ports) cruise ships I haven't sailed...but then I haven't been to Disneyland in 25 years (my kids and grand kids much preferred Magic Mountain/Six Flags) and we never cruise with anyone under the age of 12. And the lack of a Casino (even though I have a limited gambling budget) is a big turn-off.

Funny, but I have never had anyone who I travel with recommend Disney...the other cruise lines yup, many times. Wonder why?

You certainly should expand your circles.

Take any cruiseline you line, add a layer of Disney on top, and you get DCL. There's nothing like it!

And certainly NOTHING that compares to Castaway Cay ANYWHERE.

I agree. No kids here, but I would sail with Disney forever if I could. Our economic situation has been such we haven't been able to for awhile. I will say that once you've gone to Castaway Cay, every other private island/beach will be a bitter disappointment. That's not to say we won't enjoy ourselves, just that we won't put Disney expectations on our cruise. I'm sure we're going to love our Dream cruise :D!

Our first 2 cruises were on the Disney Magic. If you have kids, it can't be beat!. Their kids programs are outstanding. Many character meet and greets and much less crowded than disneyland. But after 2 cruises, DS said he was 2 "old" for a third, so we went with carnival. Living in Ga. with ports easily drivable in one day influenced our decision.

Our very first cruise was the Disney Magic to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary. We took one more cruise on that ship, and one on the Wonder (with my parents) and thoroughly enjoyed each one.

But their prices are just too high to justify doing another Disney cruise. :(

Disney did a wonderful job keeping the adult areas free of children.

There are some of us that aren't Disney fanatics...I find their amusement parks pretty bland and horribly over-priced for the experience...and I'm not into "private islands" on any cruise-line. And considering the mess Disney has made of ABC (the network) I don't think they are the be-all and end-all for entertainment. I'm just not into everything being "family" friendly...I have way too much of a risque side for all that.

You're using the wrong adjective. You don't need to be a Disney fanatic. Just a cruising fanatic, or not.

But certainly see no correlation between a Disney park and a Disney cruise, except they are experts at moving crowded and crowd control.

But the only one that loses is you. You have an impression on something you've never tried.

And I'll let my SIL know you are dissatisfied with ABC Family Disney.

But why should I spend my money going on something that I have no interest in doing. I don't go to every 5 star hotel or every 5 star restaurant just to see if I'd like it. The "concept" of Disney holds no appeal to me what-so-ever and others can praise it to the heavens and I still won't go...I have no use for people dressed in costumes of characters that weren't relatable to me even as a 10 year old. Our family lets the young-ems choose the cruise if they are invited to go and not one of them has ever wanted a Disney cruise....heck, they don't even want land vacations to Disneyland or Disneyworld.

That's just it. You don't have to.

But makes me wonder why said person would come on a Disney thread, not only to read, but to comment.

But hey, it's your "right". When I was younger, I used to tell my parents I have no interest to spend 2 weeks at their condo in Hawaii because I had no interest in a cosmopolitan city next to the sea so far away.

I now look back and think what an idiot I was even thinking that.

Disney Dream had baby lamb chops, king crab legs and jumbo shrimp at their sailaway lunch buffet......two bathrooms in a balcony cabin, with two sets of drapes, one over the door, the other next to the bed to keep morning light out and provide room seperation. Interactive picture puzzle games throughout the ship for the kids (and some adults) to entertain themselves......Aqua Duck flow ride.........interactive pictures in their dining room........their private isle has something for everyone........adult areas can be found here and on the ship........yes, no casino.

Absolutely the best deck party at night with music and fireworks!

If I hadn't experienced it, I wouldn't know what I was missing. My ignorance is not always bliss, it may just seem like it.

I thought this was the Carnival message board...with someone talking about sailing on Disney and I was giving my personal reasons why it wouldn't interest ME. Isn't the purpose of these boards to share "feelings" as well as "information" so that others can make an astute decision if the subject concerns them? I didn't know that you had to be "pro" something in order to read or post on a certain thread....

See, it's just that a comparison would actually involve experiencing both things.

The OP now has. This is more like a welcome to the club thread.

Where and when did the word "comparison" raise its head. The OP was saying that they cruised Disney but would stay with Carnival. I responded that Disney would not be my choice of cruise line and gave my reasons. Its like saying that someone had jumped out of an airplane but would go back to just bungee jumping. And I said I wouldn't be interested in jumping out of the airplane for a myriad of reasons. Would I have had to experience it to offer my personal opinion? Or just say that bungee jumping is good enough for me.

I don't think "comparison" ever came into play other than the PP choosing the wrong word. I also think his PP came from the negative tone of your posts and how it just adds nothing constructive to the thread.

just my 2 cents.
