we have a letter from doctor stating this my wife wont have to pay and i

can get the package for myself, a huge saving on a 9 night cruise.

I bet you that decision will cost NCL more than they bargained for. There are a lot of people where only one person can drink in the stateroom for various reasons. I think they may have just opened up a can of worms.

Glad it worked out for you.

I cannot wait until passengers start getting this package on the Breakaway so I can see what is really included on those sailings.

If it works out, I'll have to do some rearranging of family members in cabins just on paper but want to make sure it will be worth it before I start moving kids around.

Any recent cruisers find a different list?

Leaving wednesday...need to know

On the Sun right now the list at the top of this thread are valid. You can get the drink of the day (no souvenir cup), martinis even with Ketel, frozen drinks with well pour etc and yes it works at the casino bar as well.

A couple of other things to share for those looking to save money. Some of the options posted will not work. 2 for 1 martinis any kind are now 2 for $15. Buckets of beer at 2 for one happy hour are but 3 get 6 BUT they have to open all beers on the 2 for 1 special. Now ordering a couple of buckets to stock up unless you like flat beer is not an option :(

Someone said the soda package should include other "healthier" choices. I believe milk is always free (a friend got this for dinner every night) and on the Star last month there was a "juice enhancer" option with the package. Can't remember how much it was, but it was basically any juice for an extra few bucks a day added on to the basic soda package rate.

Can anyone please answer my questions and let me know if I am correct or not:

The Drink Package must be purchased by everyone in the cabin, 21 and over. Anyone in the cabin not 21 needs to get the soda package.

Do all cabins on the same credit card need to purchase the package?

We have four cabins for my family and my mother is taking my sister's familiy and my family so her credit card will be on file. Does every cabin need to purchase if the same credit card will be used for all OB purchases? If so, I will have more questions on how I can go about this, for instance, could she purchase OBC for each of our cabins and we use our sign/sail card to purchase, thus using the OBC? I would also like to move another child into my mother's room (my dd is in there and she is 19) on paper since she will not need to purchase the alcohol package.

Does this all make sense? I am trying to figure out how my dh, my sister/her dh and I can purchase without my mother and dd (and perhaps one of the kids) since my ds will be with me and my sister has 3 children.

Thanks so much!

I don't believe all using the same card need to purchase. It just seemed to indicate all within the same cabin had to purchase a drink package.

If it will include mixed drinks up to a certain cost, I am thinking I may go ahead and purchase just so I really don't have to think about it.

Our sailing is all sea days anyway so no stops for me to buy drinks off the ship.

Thank you.

So I think the best thing I need to do is move another person into my mother's room on paper since her cabin will not be purchasing the drink package (alcohol or soda).

I just wasn't sure if we are all under the same credit card if we all had to purchase. I guess my question would be what is considered "folio"? Also, how does the person signing you up know who is in your cabin? Do they do this by swiping your card? It's too bad this can't be purchased prior to boarding. Thank you all very much for your help!

Same folio means same account. If you are going to roll all charges onto your card and account everyone will have to buy a Package.

Thank you.

So, when the bar person swipes my card not only will they know who is in my cabin, they will know how many people and whom will be using the same credit card? Please confirm since this will make a difference to me.

I everyone on the SAME CREDIT CARD must purchase the package, perhaps it would be best for all cabins to use a different credit card but have my mother give us OBC for each cabin for the Drink Package plus whatever else she would like to do.

Then, we purchase our drink package on our sign/sail card and the cost will be taken from our OBC. Would this work? If we do this then my mother would not have to purchase the drink package and 2-3 kids would not have to purchase the soda cards.

Please let me know above my post.

Thanks so much everyone.

I'm not sure how long that Costa has had their package. But the one thing you may want to consider is NCL's is just on a trial. It could go up, it could go down, it could disappear altogether.

No it's not on trial

It is now fleet wide apart from POA

Well, I am not a happy camper. Just booked the 3/4/13 Gem and was hoping to get the UBP. Now, they say they won't offer it between 3/1 and sometime in April cuz its 'spring break". Since when is the first week of March spring break???? If it was spring break I wouldn't be going on this cruise!!!

Now, I am forced to bring my Rum Runners out of retirement!!!

We went the 1st week of March last year and it most certainly was Spring Break and we had 200+ college age kids on the ship with us  I thought the same thing as you that it is not spring break yet so we will be safe ;)

Spring Break for the state colleges and universties here in Florida that use the trimester calendar (which is pretty much all of them) was this past week of March 3. My (30-something) friend and her boyfriend just returned from a weekend cruise with a bar bill of over $800--which she claims was small potatoes compared to the younger guys on board.

We did a short 4 day cruise from Barcelona on the Epic last year with some friends who'd never cruised before. They are BIG red wine drinkers and spent over $1000 between them over those 4 days with no excursions bought. This cost put them off cruising due to the expense.

This $49 a day each package would suit them down to the ground (and probably put NCL out of business!)

I am assuming they bought some really expensive bottles on board. They should have just brought their own and paid the $15 USD per 750-ml bottle corkage fee.
