Card Scanning?

Does Princess security scan cards before entering nightclubs or teen rooms? I know they have this system on RCCL where they scan the card and your photo pops up on their computer screen. Is Princess as strict? Just wondering what their policy was and if a 17 year old could go dancing in any of Princess' lounges or nightclubs. Thanks:)

I have seen security checking cards at the entrance to Skywalkers

on Grand Princess. This was on a holiday cruise, when there

were a lot of kids on board.

Now that Skywalkers is in some scrapyard in the Bahamas, probably anyone can enter.

I've seen that happen during the holiday cruises on the Emerald Princess. They were definitely checking that people were 18 or over to enter. Then they continued to check that no one under 18 was drinking, and, if they were, they were asked to not just stop drink but also to leave Skywalkers, for the duration of the cruise (after 10pm).

We got quite a tale one day from the bar supervisor in Skywalkers about all the things that the 18-20 year olds tried. It certainly kept security on their toes!

Yes, they mark seacards for those under 21 and perhaps others younger with special marks. Since that was many years ago, I am not sure what they actually do. Seems as though the punch a hole in the card but not sure.

Yes they scan at Skywalkers. I was able to sneak my 17 year old cousin in though every night by just giving her my card. We don't look much alike so they don't really look to closely at the scanner. It's a hand held thing where your picture pops up (just as they do when you are getting in and off of the boat. The fitness center is also suppose to be 18+ unless with a parent but again my cousin would just walk in and no one would ever bother her.

I'm curious as to why you think the rules don't apply to your family?

Let's not have this discussion. No perfect person has ever sailed on Princess. We all have pushed a limit or broken a rule in our time, and this thread will just dissolve into yelling.

Agreed!!! :)

I look younger than I am, and they have always scanned my card for entrance into Skywalkers.

Lucky you! I'd be flattered if I was carded...

Thank you for all of your replies everyone!

I was considering using my moms card. We look much alike except for the age difference. On Rccl they have an indicated printed into the card I think it says S1 (for under 18) and S2 (for under 21). If you use someones card who is older than that there is obviously no mark or issue unless they recognize you are not the same person as the photo that popped up on the screen. That's why I was wondering if they scanned...

Does Princess have pool deck parties? Wether its themed or on certain nights...?

Just something to note - if you are caught doing so to drink, thats considered a disembarkation violation by the line if you are caught. Liability issues.

Did you mean under 21 ?

I know that on at least a couple of occasions I've also seen them scanning cruise cards in the casino to verify the age of people in there as well. It seems to vary though; sometimes they'll scan cruise cards, other times they'll just ask for ID (I still look just about young enough that I do still get carded every so often, typically it happens once early in the cruise then never again.) I would guess that anyone too young to gamble would be unable to use their cruise card to do so anyway.

I'm just talking about this strictly to dance. Not interested in the alcohol area that this conversation could change to. But thanks for the heads up anyways I'm sure other users will be able to use that information.
