My father died on Millenium cruise; having problems w/customer care; help?

Again, thank you all for your kind words. And those are some great suggestions -- I will definitely be contacting those people! I hope someone can resolve this. I am still holding out a sliver of hope that they didn't throw our stuff out, even if it might be stupid at this point to do so.

I wanted to share this photo with you. This is what my father got to see on Father's Day, just a couple hours before his cardiac event. I am grateful that his last living hours were this amazing.

If not, this may sound off the wall, but you could also contact your homeowners insurance. I had an expensive watch stolen on a trip and someone suggested I call my homeowners. I said "But it wasn't in my home." Amazingly I was reimbursed (minus my deductible).

This never even crossed my mind. Thank you!

Seaotter12 -- thank you so much for sharing that amazing photo with us. Hoping that, one day -- when some of the pain and heartache have passed -- you and your family will be able to view these photos, and have nothing but wonderful memories of a great vacation you got the chance to spend with your Dad. :)

I too am sorry for your loss. I hope Celebrity comes through for you. I fear your items are history but hopefully some kind of compensation can be arranged.

First, my condolences on your loss and the trauma it has created. Second the idea about contacting you insurance company is excellent. Years ago I was mugged in Madrid. My designer handbag was stolen. Inside was money, prescription glasses, etc. When I got home I filed a claim and was successful.

I am so sorry to hear of the loss of your father. Btw, that photo taken hours before his death is amazing.

It sounds like the missing clothing, etc. is a lost cause.

The reason for my post, and when you get a chance and if you feel like it, I just really want know and if you feel like sharing whether the Celebrity policy 25K in medivac was enough to cover that airlift to Anchorage?

I have contended for years that I never thought the Celebrity policy had enough in Medivac (even HAL's policy is 50K in medivac), and while you were in the US others over the years have posted of having no insurance and medivac costing upwards of 100K (I think I recall an issue in the Amazon on another cruise line). We have only used the policy for short cheap Caribbean cruises, but than we have medical insurance we can use outside the US, but no medivac.

Thanks.

But I believe with the Celebrity policy it does not cover pre-existing conditions and/or there is a 180 day look back period, which basically means one needs to supply all kinds of medical records...The policy's we have taken out with pre-existing waiver do not require all these medical records.

The Medivac from Juneau to Anchorage was $56,000 -- that doesn't include the nurses or the mileage, which I don't remember right now. At least another few thousand, I think. We're hoping my parents' medical insurance will cover a lot of that, and the Celebrity policy will cover what's left at least.

Host Andy, I don't know if it was your email or if it was the Consumerist article that went up today, but I just got a call from corporate communications. She is going to look into it and help us out. I am crossing my fingers that they find our stuff -- the Ulu knives we picked out with dad and the clothes I was wearing in the last pictures with him are now priceless to me -- but if all is lost, I am hoping they see fit to reimburse.

Very sorry to hear about the loss of your father. Best wishes to your family and to having an amicable resolution with your missing possessions. Hopefully Celebrity will find a way to make amends if they are unable to track down your belongings.

So sorry for your heartbreaking loss. My husband and I had to leave our last cruise unexpectedly and left behind a special knife which was confiscated when we embarked (forgot it was in our carryon). We honestly thought we would never see it again, but the customer service team at Celebrity worked diligently to find it....took over a month and a half to get it back. We were dealing with Forrest in Corporate Guest Relations and he got us in contact with the right departments and individuals pertaining to everything with regards to our cruise (reimbursement for charges from the spa, alcove rentals, casino credit, missing knife, etc). If you would like his phone number you can email me at frakint 3 at aol dot com (all together)...just put down Celebrity HQ as the header so I do not delete your email.

Wishing all turns out okay and praying for your family.

Denise

Thanks, y'all. The thought that a couple of you have gotten your stuff back past the month mark gives me a little bit of hope that they can still locate ours.

Sorry for your loss. I lost my father some years ago and I still think of him

I had to leave a cruise because my aunt had died - my mother (her sister) was travelling with me

We had paid for the cruise with a credit card and the travel insurance that was automatic through this card reimbursed the rest of our trip and the cost of the flight home. I just though maybe if you had paid with a cc may be it may may travel insurance

Royal Caribbean International (Celebrity's parent co.) does have a customer resolutions dept. I once sent a letter to the CEO and this dept contacted me and offered OBC on my next cruise due to an issue that could not be otherwise resolved.

Seaotter, I also send my sincere condolences on the loss of your beloved father. I am so sad that complications with Celebrity and their insurers have made such a difficult time that much harder for you.

I am really hoping that you hear some good news soon. Please keep your faith for a good outcome. My mother-in-law died while I was cruising from Morocco to Barcelona, and I met some amazingly kind people at Celebrity during that time. I hope someone amazing will come through for you too.

Thank you so much for sharing the photo with us. It was so moving to see the beautiful picture and hear how your father was enjoying this Alaskan journey with his family.

My prayers are with you and your family.

I don't really have much to add, other than to say I was on your cruise and I'm very sorry to hear about your loss. I hope you get all your belongings back soon.

Thank you for the follow-up. We have really good medical insurance that covers us out of network (but of course this is in network USA), BUT, no medivac. So if this happened to us with the Celebrity policy we would be stuck with at minimum a $31K medivac invoice.

I wonder what Medivac (which locations) the Celebrity 25K would actually cover in full.
