Calebo Posted January 20, 2014 #1 Share Posted January 20, 2014 I imagine there are still some die-hard smokers who sneak a smoke late at night on their veranda on Celebrity. Do they get caught? Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
Pecs ado rojo Posted January 20, 2014 #2 Share Posted January 20, 2014 (edited) Do they get caught? Yes, complaints and security cameras catch them. Keep in mind how many choose X for the smoking policy and are quick to report any violations. The crew can quickly verify reports with security video in addition to what they see on the cameras. wwcruisers Posted January 20, 2014 #3 Share Posted January 20, 2014 Absolutely -- X does enforce their smoking policy (and some of us are relentless at making sure that they do).
Andy Posted January 20, 2014 #4 Share Posted January 20, 2014 (edited) Hi Calebo, You may wish to review this important information from Celebrity's website : http://www.celebritycruises.com/footer/faq.do Q: What is the onboard smoking policy? A: For your comfort and enjoyment, our ships are designated as non-smoking; however, we recognize that some of our guests smoke. Therefore, cigarette, cigar and pipe smoking is permitted in designated outdoor areas of the ship. Smoking is not permitted in any dining venue, casino, theater, lounge, hallway, elevator, or corridor. This policy includes smoking-like products such as electronic cigarettes. Smoking is not permitted inside any stateroom, nor on any stateroom veranda. If you are in violation of this policy, a cleaning fee of $250 USD will be applied to your SeaPass® account and you may be subject to further action pursuant to the "Consequences Section" of the Guest Conduct Policy. Cigarettes, cigars and pipe tobacco must be properly disposed of and never thrown overboard. You must be at least 18 years of age to purchase, possess or use tobacco onboard. Additionally, there is a non-smoking policy on all components of the land tour portion of all Celebrity Cruises Cruisetour products. We appreciate your understanding and adherence. Well said!! One of the reasons we chose moving from RCCL to X was for their smoking policy. :):)
gary19699 Posted January 20, 2014 #6 Share Posted January 20, 2014 What annoys me is that last year myself and my wife went on a caribbean cruise ( our first ever cruise) 95 % of cruise ship space is non smoking which I accept! but when we were sitting in the smoking area have a wee smoke and a drink non smoking people were sitting at the same area complaining about the smell of the smoke, if you don't smoke then don't sit in a smoking area and complain you have more of the ship to sit than smokers do
Rare Lois R Posted January 20, 2014 #7 Share Posted January 20, 2014 I remember when I was on Summit back in August. I was standing out on my balcony looking around......as I look down a couple of decks I could see a pack of cigarettes, lighter and ash tray on the balcony table. Nobody was sitting there but I would guess they were either going to light up or already did.....

wednesday Posted January 20, 2014 #9 Share Posted January 20, 2014 On my last cruise, I stepped onto my balcony on embarkation day, only to have a cloud of cigarette smoke greet me:mad: It happened again that night so I called security and took it up with the butler, they were given a letter that told them that there would be consequences if it happened again. For the most part the smoking ceased and we were able to enjoy our balcony. We pay a premium to sail Celebrity due to their strict smoking restrictions and it makes me very angry when people who think they are above the rules ruin the use of my balcony. Then to have people say you are "tattling"?! I paid good money not to be subjected to it and I will do what I can NOT to be, follow the rules or cruise a line that allows it. If you light up on the balcony next to me, expect to be reported. I have no problem with smokers having a place to go feed their habit and I avoid that area. Phxazzcruisers Posted January 20, 2014 #10 Share Posted January 20, 2014 Unfortunately on our last Caribbean cruise on Reflection, the people in the Aqua Class Suite next to us smoked on his balcony throughout the entire cruise. TorontoSailor Posted January 20, 2014 #14 Share Posted January 20, 2014 Celebrity really does have a zero-tolerance policy to smoking, except in designated areas. A second warning will get you booted off the ship in the next port. We have actually seen this happen. I applaud them for this. As a former smoker, I recognize that it is an addiction (and a rather sad one at that). However, I don't think non-smokers should be subjected to smoke. One year, we had someone smoking on the balcony next to ours on the first day. I was seriously considering reporting it. However, later that day there was no more smoke…and we never smelled it again on the entire cruise. I suspect that someone else complained before we had to, which was a relief. And I am quite positive that they were told in no uncertain terms that if they were caught again, they would be off the ship….because there was not even a WHIFF of smoke for the next 13 days. So, just a word of warning: Don't get caught twice. We saw a guy being dropped at a port with his luggage, and were told it was precisely for this. There are other cruise lines that DO allow smoking, both on the balconies, in the casinos, etc. If you are seriously tempted, you may want to consider booking on those, just so your holiday is not ruined. Rare Hlitner Posted January 20, 2014 #15 Share Posted January 20, 2014 On our recent Reflection cruise, too! Aqua class. They were smoking that awful cherry tobacco. Did you report them? And keep reporting them every time it happened? The reality is that the ship's staff cannot possibly stay on top of smoking violations unless they are informed. We know one couple whof had a similar situation and their neighbors would not stop, even after having been politely asked, and also being told by the staff. One day our friends leaned around the balcony corner and took a iPad photo of a violation. They later showed this to the Guest Relations supervisor and suggested it would soon be on its way to Mr. Bayley's Office if something was not done. There were no more smoking violations :) While it is sometimes said (and has been posted) that Celebrity has a zero tolerance policy regarding smoking violations....there does seem to be some question as to whether the onboard staff are aware of the policy :) Hank

I did however, speak up and said I was going inside to report them...it would stop for a while...then after a short time they would just light up again. grrrrrrrr! SantaFeFan Posted January 20, 2014 #17 Share Posted January 20, 2014 (edited) Poor smokers get hammered again, what about the drunks that run about the ship at night What annoys me is that last year myself and my wife went on a caribbean cruise ( our first ever cruise) 95 % of cruise ship space is non smoking which I accept! but when we were sitting in the smoking area have a wee smoke and a drink non smoking people were sitting at the same area complaining about the smell of the smoke, if you don't smoke then don't sit in a smoking area and complain you have more of the ship to sit than smokers do Sounds like a wee tell tale lol I have always smoked the balcony never caught yet Lmao and may I continue to get away with it "What annoys me" is that on every smoking thread at least one smoker will inevitably post replies defending his bad habit and bragging about his rule breaking. And without fail, these arguments will come across like a 5 year old child pouting because his sibling's piece of cake is bigger than his. Edited January 20, 2014 by SantaFeFan

Janet987 Posted January 20, 2014 #19 Share Posted January 20, 2014 (edited) Not sure how much X cares about our health or second hand smoke, but they do care a great deal about their ships and want to avoid a fire disaster similar to one on Princess when a thoughtless person smoked on their balcony. We smelled smoke embarkation day in AQ on our balcony but could not determine from where it came, but then never smelled it again. Assume quick work by X security put a stop to that safety hazard. More than once, by verbal announcement and in dailies, we were reminded there was a guest conduct policy for smoking and alcohol, and it would be enforced. deise17311 Posted January 20, 2014 #20 Share Posted January 20, 2014 Funny how at one time smoking was considered chic and sophisticated...now lowly and trashy...I rank smoking up there with tattoos, and I hate tattoos...
jb456 Posted January 20, 2014 #21 Share Posted January 20, 2014 (edited) Based on this thread I know I'm likely to get blasted by bad responses but I thought I'd ask a question anyways. I'm a very light smoker 2 or 3 a day and only when I'm enjoying a few beers. I gather none of the designated smoking areas are anywhere near the bars? How about out by the pool decks? Is it like Disney where you have to walk a mile to each designated area? I understand all you guys point of view as your non smokers. I try to be courtesy as possible to those around and follow the rules but it's a shame that smokers are not treated the same considering we pay the same fare. At least one outdoor bar should allow smoking to accommodate smokers. Rather then everything banned so non smokers can enjoy 9+ bars. Sounds like "heavy" smokers will loose out on a few hours each day by having to walk across the entire ship to get to a designated area? Thanks for the response :) Besides that one side of the bar.... Is other designated areas far from everything?.. Like if your in the casino is it a far trek or something within close proximity. Or at the pool, something near the vicinity or are you walking to the front of the boat? Sorry 1st time cruiser here.... Would the deck plans show all that info so I can go look at them and not have to bother you wonderful folks with these silly questions. Thanks Thank you for being considerate about where you smoke. There is an area for smokers in the pool area. It may vary by ship, but will be clearly described in the daily. Also, the presence of ashtrays is a clue that you're in the smoking area.
