Harmony Keel Blocks are in the House... well they're outside actually!

Looking at the Port of Southampton movements this week, there's a 'channel cruise' running 20 - 22 May. Anyone know, is this a Travel Agent/VIP preview event?

Is anyone on this board on it to give us some early reviews?

We will be on board and hope to be able to report back, but I am sure someone else will create a LIVE thread before I even finish my first drink :D

Cruisecritic UK will be onboard. It´s invitation only (TAs, media, VIPs). There´s another one out of Barcelona June 5th-7th.

So, what's the story with the foliage? Obviously it is onboard. Did it get sourced from the states?

I'd also like to know about this. Some have reported that plants have to be removed before docking in the US. Certainly they aren't going to remove everything prior to the transatlantic??? What has happened on other ships?

Oasis and Allure came over to the Med with the US plants. According to the chef landscaper Lazlo on the Oasis he was not allowed to buy any replacement plants in the Netherlands during the Oasis dry dock in Rotterdam. He was really worried that a lot of his plants won´t survive the cold temps in October. Fortunately it was much warmer than expected and almost everything did survive.

Ok, but was Central Park empty when they first arrived in the US back in the day. I don't think they had a European season back then. Straight to Ft Lauderdale.

Yes, the plants were installed in Fort Lauderdale. They came from Finland empty (no passengers)

Both, Allure and Oasis, directly went from Turku to Fort Lauderdale with no passengers. Within the 14 days inbetween arrival and the first pre inaugural cruises the plants were brought onboard (in Fort Lauderdale).

Amazing photos. With all there is to see of the aft view the abyss slides don't really stand out, when you view the ship from a far.

Agreed, close up she is not as aesthetically pleasing as her sisters but go wide angle and she is as pretty or prettier cuz she's shiny and new☺

Except it might be different foliage - someone reported most of that has to be taken off since it can't be brought to Florida.

I thought I'd bring up the questions about the plants with Tom Brownlee, a landscape Specialist at Royal Caribbean who's done some work on the Oasis, Allure and now the Harmony Central Park.

Q.

1. Where do the plants originate from?

2. Some have wondered if the plants have to be removed before docking in the US.?

Many thanks.

A. Great question. The Trees and Vines are shipped over from Florida. The rest of the material is from Holland. The plants will not have to be removed prior to arriving in the USA. We are however regulated by USDA and we have a list of plants that are not allowed for one reason or another and were good on that end. More than likely they will board HM when she arrives in FLL for an inspection. All plants will be fine has they were designed to the climate for the Med and Caribbean.

Now, on the flip side of the coin, Oasis Class of Ship would never be allowed to port in Australia as they are extremely strict with incoming plant material. Any cruise ship that has plants must bag/cover them in a plastic when we're about 12 nm from port to prevent the possibility of pests. OA Class of Ship would literally have to put the worlds biggest Condom over the ship (excuse the analogy but that [is] what it would be). Hope this settles the debate.
