Good tip for those who think they know which terminal they're arriving in

I read somewhere that they are changing the name of (the new) Terminal two to the Queen's Terminal, just to confuse matters more:eek:

......or even ....... Terminal 2 The Queen's Terminal

Terminal Two / The Queens Terminal is the name they're using and you can use either/or.

The reason for this is that in between T1 and the old T2 was the Queens Building which was an administrative block and also the public viewing gallery. That's where all the pictures of thousands of screaming girls were taken when The Beatles flew anywhere. As a claim to fame, my father designed the fence around the top of the viewing area and it even had a plaque there for a short while with his name on it. The space taken up by the old QB is now all part of the new T2.

The original Queens Building was opened in 1955 by HRH.

Surely using two names is adding more confusion for passengers who do not use LHR on a regular basis....or is that the plan:p

I think she was already HM by 1955! ;)

We'll have to see how it goes, but I expect T2 to be referred to as T2 for all day-to-day purposes. It's how it's coded in airline systems, and it's how Heathrow's signage is set up.

Thai Airways

Turkish Airlines

For anyone who may be travelling on any of these airlines in the next few days or weeks, please check your operating terminal carefully, both with the airline and on the airport's website.

There are reports that this batch of moves has been delayed, as a precautionary response to the baggage system problems that have been affecting Terminal 5 over the last few weeks.

There are reports that this batch of moves has been delayed ...
It now appears to be Thai Airways and Turkish Airlines whose moves are being deferred. Thai is quoting August as the new likely move date.

Avianca and EVA Air should still move as planned on Wednesday (and Avianca doesn't start operating until Friday anyway).

  • 4 weeks later...

I am not sure to attach it to this thread or start a new one. But just to let people know that someone mentioned last week in a blog that transiting through London and also departing London there is further restrictions with security.

All electronic devices......ipad, phones & laptops (and maybe e-readers) need to have a charge in them so they can check they can be turned on. My techy sons tell me this is most likely because they could hide bomb components if not able to be turned on. They will not allow you to take them with you if they can't be turned on.

This was also sent to me by my TA yesterday by Emirates.

Dear Agent,

Travellers to the UK, USA and Canada are required to demonstrate that their electronic and battery powered devices switch on at Dubai International airport, including telephones, laptops , tablets and e-books. This means charging your devices before arriving at the airport.

All passengers will still be required to follow instructions for electronic devices for take-off and landing. Please read the below frequently asked questions related to this recently implemented security measure:

Will all baggage be screened for electronic devices?
Screening only applies to hand and carry-on baggage.

Who will be doing the screening? Where?
Emirates Group Security will be screening travellers at the boarding gates for flights departing
to destinations in the UK, US or Canada.

What if I can’t power up my electronic device?
You will not be allowed to board your flight, unless you choose to leave the device behind.
These regulations are specified by the authorities of the three countries. There are no facilities
to keep devices in storage.

Does this mean that we need more pre-boarding time for flights heading to these countries?
No. Current pre-boarding times are as normal for Emirates departures.

Emirates is complying with new security requirements from the UK and US Governments, so please ensure that items you bring with you are fully powered before you arrive at the airport.

be found on our dedicated*agents website.*Thank you for your continued support.*

Maybe just something to be kept in mind for any international plane flights.

Cheers, Julie

The date now being given for the move of Thai Airways and Turkish Airlines to Terminal 2 is 28 August 2014.

As before, please note that only Virgin Atlantic Little Red is moving. Virgin Atlantic long-haul flights remain at T3 and are not moving.

In addition, there will be a number of shuffles of British Airways destinations between terminals. Notably, Belfast and Dublin will move from T1 to T5 on 26 October 2014.
