Smoking on your balcony is out! Gratuities are going up.

Our local Indian casino went smoke free and it is more packed with people than ever. I certainly hope the balconys being smoke free is true. I think it's ridiculous for smokers to think its their right to smoke there with no consideration to the people in the balcony next door.

 

As ridiculous as you booking a balcony knowing the person next to you can smoke? Hope they ban heavy cheap perfume on all cruise lines. I have a friend who was hospitalized from breathing in some heavy perfume in an elevator on a Celebrity cruise put her in a full asthma attack.

I want them to ban perfume. Perfumes have horrendously terrible health effects, especially when making them.

 

Impossible to control what men and women spray on themselves, it's not impossible to control someone smoking. Hell, whadda gunna do with someone who doesn't believe in showering and reeks of BO? BO perfume....yuk!:eek:

No proof that it came from a pvp. One person said it was a TA. Ok thanks email is probably all text. But the letter would be an attachment. And that person never said it came from a PVP. I understand the first person not posting it, but the second?

That wasn't originally intended to be announced on Wednesday. This allows him time to reach out to those who have the power to change the policies to figure out what is really going to happen and then can relay it to his followers. He only started throwing around the day of the week once he realized there would be a lot of wall posts asking him for more information.

 

Remember when the details of the VIFP Club leaked a few weeks before they announced it and everything was denied and nobody believed it? It ended up being 100% accurate, as do many company leaks. Not all are true, but a fair amount end up being true.

I do find it odd that the TA sent out the email saying it was tipping and smoking policy changes. Tipping was announced same day... smoking... nothing. In the words of the internet...

Norwegian still allows smoking on balconies so that will become my cruise line of choice.

Carnival is struggling to fill their ships now. They really can't afford to alienate a single customer right now.

Three of ten cruises on balconies. i'll have the occasional cigar, which amounts to maybe one stick a cruise.

 

Have yet to hear one complaint or have any cigarette smoke blown my way.

 

I have, however, heard vile, profane and drunken arguements from people on balconies with their cabin mates, or barking at someone via cell phone.

FYI... Who remembers.... the PARADISE. The first ever Non-Smoking ship? What happened...?

 

The Paradise was built to be the world's first completely non-smoking cruise ship and she was entered into service supported by several anti-smoking and cancer-prevention groups. "No smoking" signs were placed prominently on both sides of the ship and on the stern under the name.

 

Non-smoking rules were strictly enforced. No smoking materials of any kind were permitted aboard. If anything was seen or found, the passenger was fined $250 and put off at the next port (transportation home to be provided at passenger's own expense). Due to poor revenue, Carnival decided to discontinue the smoke-free ship in December 2003 because non-smokers tend to not drink or gamble as much as those accustomed to smoke

 

That's right.... It was a failed test. I can see carnival taking one of the Caribbean ships and doing the non smoking balconies and seeing if it can keep profits on it or not.

If true that would be terrific news. Hate smokers on nearby balconies. As for tipping, Carnival is far from the worst. I seem to recall for some cabins on another cruise line tipping is over $20/day. It isn't fai to single out Carnival.

Would be nice if you cited a source. I believe I read that exact statement here at CC posted by another CC member years ago. Paradise sailed as a non smoking ship for about six years. The CEO at the time stated they simply had difficulty recruiting and retaining non smoking personnel for that ship.

Me too. And to be honest try to stop me. I hear a knock on the door, I'll fling the butt and say I smelled it too, I think it was the room below me.

Didn't mean to say I didn't agree to the tipping. Thats fine in my book.

 

And Yes, it was how the fire started, but did you know airplanes are required to have an ashtray in the bathroom because they know people are going to smoke on the plane, and need a safe place to put out the butts, even though it's not allowed. People are going to smoke on the balconies, butts will just be thrown overboard to avoid getting caught, or in a coke can that's tossed in the sea, or into the complaining neighbors balcony to burn the ship down. I'd probably go the coke can route though, I never litter with my butts, but that's going to be the mentality of a lot of smokers.

As someone who can't tolerate the smell of smoke, i'm all for the smoking ban and because of it, will likely upgrade from inside cabin to a balcony for my March cruise.

Sure it does, 1/2 no smokong, 1/2 smoking optional. Some people don't care, the world isn't all full of people who swear they're allergic and will die at the sight of a cigarette.

 

I even had someone start coughing at my ecig because they were allergic to "cigarette smoke". Had someone just asked I would have stopped, to her, I said she should find out whos smoking cigarettes.

Some people over react to the point I will go out of my way to irritate them, when a simple excuse me would have worked fine. To you people, I say tough ****, next time have respect and in turn I will too. To those of you who are polite, I'll put the cigarette out in a heartbeat.

If you look at the post by S.S. Oceanlover, you will see the question was geared towards a mass market cruise line, comparable to Carnival Cruise Lines.

 

Oceania, having only five mid-sized vessels, is not currently considered a mass market cruise line. Do you consider Regent, Seabourn or Azamara to be mass market lines?
