No more balcony smoking on Carnival

Recommended Posts

Cigar smoking not allowed. My dh would be so happy if he could smoke his cigars on the balcony, but we also do enjoy the cigar bars and the people we meet there.

Safe sailing

Due to the smoking policy changing on CCL, I am now moving my cruising addiction business over to NCL. I have always been a courteous smoker no matter where I am at, so if you are on a balcony next to me, I am approachable:D.

I have also read of the great casino perks the NCL offers, which is a bonus since we love to spend lots of time in the casino:eek:.

I am sure that other CCL smokers will also be coming this way.

Thanks to the poster on the CCL board that said "COME ON OVER TO NCL"...

Here I am and thanks for the invite:D

Face the music, it is inevitable that all cruise lines will do the same. Time to adapt instead of running.

Enjoy it while you can. NCL will follow the rest of the cruise industry and ban balcony smoking sooner or later. Most likely sooner.

A very, very intelligent comment, Charles! :)

Carnival is actually pushing them via their action to do it. Now, what do they do in the Asian market, or what do all of them do?

It certainly hasnt hurt RCCL at all ... they are consistently higher priced than NCL!

RCCL has always been higher priced than NCL so there is nothing new there. Doesn't mean that they are having an easy time filling their ships though.

Royal Caribbean profit plunges on higher costs, cruise disruptions

A few blurbs:

"Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd, the world's second-largest cruise operator, said its quarterly profit fell by two-thirds as costs rose and six cruises were canceled or shortened due to several mishaps."

"The company shortened or canceled six cruises during January-March, typically the strongest season for cruise operators."

"Royal Caribbean has also been struggling to boost sales in the Caribbean, its biggest market."

PittsburghGirlee, If you liked the march 1st Breeze Premier cruise you will love NCL CAS program:) We don't smoke but it doesn't bother us one way or the other. My wife played Blackjack & Craps on the NCL Sun last December and CAS sent us a VERY good offer for the Getaway later this month. She didn't gamble any more than she has on CCL but the "perks" are much, much better on NCL:cool: Pink

I am also a (previously) loyal Carnival Platinum cruiser. I will no longer be on Carnival but am now researching cruises on NCL. I will be booking 2 7 day B2B or a 14 day within the next week. Carnival made a huge mistake by banning the smoking on all balconies. Had they at least made an effort to make everyone happy by limiting smoking to balconies on 1 side of the ship, or balconies on the rear of the ship, I would not be, no pun intended, jumping ship!

Smokers have rights too-and yes they must be respectful to those nonsmokers-we allways book an aft facing balcony and seems smoke travels straight back not sideways. I have been on 15 cruises and never had any balcony neighbor mention anything about smoking-probably because most were smokers themselves

I agree with it blowing straight back and not sideways. We started booking aft-facing balcony cabins after a couple of not so pleasant experiences with smokers on their balconies, and we haven't had a problem since. Also, same with the very forward balcony cabins.

I wonder how many cancellations carnival got today

With all due respect, if someone cancels a cruise because they can't smoke on their balcony, they are in serious need of addiction counseling. Not directing this at you - just saying in general. Someone posted they lost $1,500 in airfare over a cancelled carnival cruise because of the smoking policy. Really?? Who does that??

Ummm yes smoking is an addiction. I do smoke and I would cancel my reservation if it was a cruise out of NY not one that I would lose any money over. I would make do if it was after final payment and just use the smoking areas that are permitted but would not book any future cruises.

I have air fare insurance I am not a moron... I only booked this trip 5 days ago.i am angrier at the fact that they let me book knowing this policy change was being done within a few days and yes I did verify that they allowed smoking on the balconies. It is in my cruise contract. This was not rolled out the way the 2011 changes were on most ships.

That seems nuts, right? Isn't the "fine" for smoking on the balcony a $250 cleaning fee? Why not just pay the fine and carry on....

The last thing NCL non-smoking cruisers want is more smokers onboard. Go awaaaaayyyyyyyyy!

Actually the contract says $250 for any violation. That would imply a per incident charge, not a $250 charge for an entire cruise. The contract also says that violations can result in expulsion from the ship, without refund or reimbursement. It is considered a violation of the cruise contract.

I don't have many posts either..

I smoked for 32 years. I was outraged when Ohio passed the law of no smoking in work places. I was one of those that stood outside in the middle of a snow storm just so i could smoke. 2 packs or more a day..that was me. By not being able to smoke in my workplace, I was cut down to 1 pack a day.

Any cold i got went straight to my chest. I had bronchitis constantly. When a Dr told me that in 10 yrs I'd be on oxygen I knew I had to quit.

I was petrified. I had never tried to stop before. I knew i couldn't do it cold turkey.

I quit by using Chantix which is a prescription. It's been 7 yrs since i stopped smoking and it does make life easier being a non smoker. No more running outside at airports, or not watching a movie in a theatre without wanting a cigarette.

I don't mean this to be a holier than thou post. Just that i know where smokers are coming from and how they're feeling. I was right there with them.

I have never smoked another cigarette , but i do have to say that when i smell someone light up, that first whiff stills smells good.

I am not for the smokers nor the non smokers. I just wanted to say I understand the anger.

I would, and if NCL bans smoking I will just take my casino $$$$$ to Atlantic city or Vegas

That's who

i hope not. some people do smoke and are considerate to non smokers. looks like no more carnival for me glad i booked the breakaway. yeah :D:D:D:D

Please stay on your balcony to smoke and do not cluster in the casino. I hear it is sort of an open air type of casino

Personally I never book a balcony but I am booked on the breakaway and am concerned about casino smoke even though I won't be in there I understand I will have to walk thru it

What a stupid layout

I don't do a lot of posting, but I do a lot of reading. I am a non-smoker, who has been married for 38 years to a smoker. He wishes he didn't smoke. I wish he didn't smoke. Our adult children who are also non-smokers, wish he didn't smoke.

It is a very difficult addiction to stop. However, living with a smoker - who is very considerate, by the way, I do have empathy for those who have that addiction.

We are platinum on NCL and have two cruises booked. With retirement happening in another year, we are hoping to cruise more often and not at the peak times we've had to do it in the past.

We always book a balcony so that he can have a smoke there if he wishes. He also goes up to the pool deck on the smoking side to have a smoke as well. It will be a decision to make whether or not to choose cruising as our first choice in holidays.

I am ever hopeful that he will kick this addiction, but also will be unhappy if the ban on smoking on the balcony does extend to NCL. Either way, we shall survive. There is no need to be vicious on either side.

Just as an aside, once you get on a cruise ship and sail into international waters then it doesn't really matter much what your countries constitution says.

For the significant proportion of NCL passengers who aren't American, we don't even need to get on a ship for it not to be relevant.

Carry on though. :)

I never said you were a moron. I'm one of the few that agree with you. I'm on your side lol
