NCL Smoking Ban

If this is in fact true it will be interesting to see the reaction on this board!

 

Apparently many CCL passengers have just cancelled cruises and booked NCL cruises.

If they'd go with a total ban on regular cigs, but allow e-cigs in the casino, I'd be ok with that.

 

(This new policy doesn't go far enough imo.)

Norwegian has always been the cruise line of new ideas, I have an idea, let the smokers cruise. Smokers can still smoke in the public areas on some of the other lines as well as Norwegian, so all the casino people and outside bar people that are nonsmokers will be disappointed.

The balcony thing should be allowed, let the smokers pay the $250.00 cleaning fee, that will keep the cheapskates from smoking and possibly try keep everyone happy. And there are alot of cheap, whining people that cruise. Trust me.

How can you possibly compare NCL to Crystal, Celebrity and Princess! Apples to Oranges! NCL is comparable to Carnival and RCL! :confused:

Correct about the casino being unbearable. I was thinking it will take a mask to get near it now.

Sadly I love love the casino. Not too awful in early am.

Oh well, our very inexpensive 12 day will just be me and my 2 college kids

 

We were hoping to book Bermuda for the entire family for next June but that won't happen now because of the casino location. DH has asthma so no way!!!

 

I guess our rather expensive Baltic cruise we are thinking about for 2016 will be back on Princess!

If they limit it to the casino, the Breakaway will essentially be a smoking ship due to the casino placement.

 

There will be an uproar when pax realize just how that smoke will wander.

 

and trust me there are numerous, probably 90% of pax who do not smoke and their complaints will be heard on that ship.

 

Since I never book a balcony, I was thrilled that NCL was allowing smoking on them as it segregates the smokers from me.

OK, I might as well ask this as I was before but deleted it. I know the policy is not out yet but do you think smoking will be allowed on only one side of the outside decks or anywhere on outside decks?

 

 

I do think there will be some outside smoking other than the casino even carnival has smoking in some bars correct? NCL does not they have enclosed area by the pool which I found as a good place to have a smoke

No, I don't see why they would take away the existing smoking areas outside. That doesn't make any sense at all.

Just called NCL myself and yep, its true. No smoking on balconies and they're going to 'limit' the areas you can smoke in at the casino, on Epic, Breakaway and Getaway, is what the Rep told me. She said they've been getting a lot of complaints from guests about the smoke smell coming from the casino on the Epic, Breakaway and Getaway, so on these ships they'll be limited smoking areas in the casinos. She also said there will be more designated smoking areas in the Waterfront, starboard side of the ship, on Breakaway and Getaway.

 

I just booked my first NCL cruise yesterday on Getaway for next year, so I'm thrilled about the change.

If I remember correctly, the Epic already has a non-smoking section. I do not recall seeing one on Getaway. It's good if they are going to divide it like that. The smell on the Epic was really not bad at all, but on the Getaway ... yikes! It was bad.

Interesting .. Wednesday will tell all I suppose .. If its all balconies were out.

Two suites just opened up for Christmas and March , 20K + off the table .. It is what it is ... ;)

I don't recall seeing that on the Epic either. I remember it from the Getaway, but I can't picture it on the Epic. Doesn't mean it's not there, I just don't remember seeing it.

Breakaway was the only NCL ship I was on that's why I said that. Wasn't thinking of other ships my bad.

Wouldn't it make more sense to have the whole inside of the ship non-smoking and designate an outdoor area for smoking? It doesn't make sense to me that there is any inside smoking when there are so many outside areas that can be made smoking. These policies are just weird.

You have to take into consideration that outside conditions can often be rainy, stormy, dangerously breezy and sometimes very cold. And some passengers may not feel secure being alone outside on deck late at night.

Just confirmed by a very reliable source. He spoke directly with the VP of Sales. Effective 11/1, no smoking on balconies.

For all of the non-smokers that are so gleeful about banning smoking on the balconies (potentially) you need to look a little further ahead as to what the results will most likely be.

 

Ships like the Breakaway, Epic, and Getaway were designed and built to have the casinos be an area where people almost need to go through whether they want to be in the casino or not. (intentional as a cash generator) They were also done on the cheap as there could have been much better segregation and venting of the smoking sections from the non-smoking sections. People complain (rightfully so in my opinion) that the smell and smoke is not only confined to the casinos themselves but also into other surrounding restaurants and other public areas. Well it seems to me that this new (again potential) policy is going to make that problem a whole lot worse. You are kidding yourselves if you think they will ban smoking in the casinos any time soon. So prepare yourselves for a lot more smell and second hand smoke while you are anywhere near those areas of the ship.

I don't think you have to worry about that. There are already numerous complaints on both Away ships with the casino smoking, and part of the announcement is going to be curbing the smoking in the casino as well. How they are going to do that (i.e. smoking and non-smoking sections?) who knows. I guess we will find out.
