OBC....how do you get it??

 Share

Recommended Posts

Ok, so I'm sure that this may seem like a dumb question to most on this board because as I can see you are all experienced cruisers. I keep seeing where people are getting anywhere from $100 to $800 in OBC. What are the different ways people can get OBC?

I always look for the lowest priced cruises and I'm guessing that most of those don't offer the OBC since you're getting a good deal on the cruise itself. Do I need to just pick a higher priced cruise to possibly get the OBC?? Not that I would do that just for the OBC......just wondering.

There are multiple ways.

Cruiseline promotion

Booking onboard

Travel Agent

Royal Caribbean credit card(BOA)

Gift

Purchase yourself

There are probably more but these are where mine have come from.

Well, Phoenix beat me to it, but basically summed it up. The only one I could add would be if the cruise line screwed up your booking in some way (not that THAT ever happens). :D Then, aws an appology of sorts, they often throw in an OBC, bottles of wine, etc.

Oh, and one other thing I wanted to add . . . Don't appologize for your question(s). For every person who ask a question, there are dozens, if not hundreds out there without the courage to ask!

Besides, it gives those of us who think we know everything a chance to show off! Thank you!

There is a big box store travel company that can not be said on this website that usually gives 10% of what you pay in obc plus whatever promotion Royal is running they will add on top. So you can always count on a few hundred dollars there. Then I have been given obc after final payment if price goes down but I think that may have changed as now they just upgrade my room if one is available.

We are two for two in Royal Caribbean canceling the cruise we booked. The first time we rebooked to a different ship and they gave us OBC and honored our original price on the cruise.

We were scheduled on the Freedom next month. Then it was cancelled as it was going into dry dock. We couldn't believe it had happened to us again. But we rebooked on the Explorer, got $200 OBC per cabin (we have two cabins). Our travel agent is giving us $50 OBC. Then we got the Royal Caribbean credit card over the summer and received $100 OBC for that. So we're sitting on $550 OBC to use. Will either use it towards excursions or tips, and of course, cocktails :p

My wife and I had a great experience with "on board" credit during the Maiden Voyage of Quantum of the Seas. I received $100 for booking the cruise. Then I cashed in 50,000 points from my Bank of America Visa Credit Card for $500.00 "on board" credit. Then because of glitches during the first two days of the cruise, RC added $650.00 in "on board" credit to my account. That made a total of $1,250.00 in "on board" credit and we enjoyed spending it all. Some people pointed out that it could be cashed in at the casino but we just had a great time spending it. We also got two $700.00 ($1,400.00) certificates for a future cruise with RC and I'm working with my TA to cruise on Freedom of the Seas in August of 2015 using that to cover half of the cruise towards a Junior Suite. Yeaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!!! - Royal Caribbean. :)

NOW I"m jealous!! We were on the Voyager TA in April of 2012 out of new Orleans and the Casino was closed for the first 6 days for "renovations". The total OBC given was $100 per Cabin (not per person)! Quite a few upset people on that one and comparatively measly compensation (IMHO)!

Can you purchase obc before boarding the ship? If so, how? We booked directly through Royal, not a TA. Thanks.

You can also go on RCLs website & click before you cruise...then gifts & gadgets where you can also purchase that way. They will be sent to you via email, or for an extra $2.50 they will mail to you.

We received $175.00 OBC for booking with a dot.com & have purchased an additional $1100. So, hopefully we are set:p

Careful, we're all going to be lining up to rub your head for good luck soon! :D

Also, you may receive an OBC if a port is missed.
Just don't expect this to happen every missed port. There will often be an OBC if it could be considered the cruise line's fault (such as a mechanical failure of their ship), but rarely, if ever, if it is because of weather, medical emergency or something else beyond their control.

Mine, too! Thinks I spend way too much time in the casino.

To the OP, no question is dumb - answers sometimes. Can't tell you how many cosmos I consumed on several cruises before I found out (here ) that you could keep the glass - duh.
