edwardsm Posted December 29, 2014 #1 Share Posted December 29, 2014 I was told by a fellow cruiser that the same dinner served in the MDR is also offered at the Buffet line. Is this true? We always have dinner in dining room or room service. Never tried dinner at buffet on Lido deck.
kona_wahine Posted December 29, 2014 #2 Share Posted December 29, 2014 No. They may have some of the same items, but not nearly all. It's basically lunch, a slight more elaborate.
triciasrv Posted December 29, 2014 #3 Share Posted December 29, 2014 Not sure about every night, but Christmas dinner seemed to be the same in the MDR and the buffet this past week on the Conquest. I noticed this while cutting through the Lido deck Thursday evening.

Butterbean1000 Posted December 29, 2014 #5 Share Posted December 29, 2014 They may have some similar dishes, but I have never seen lobster or ribs at the buffet.
2chilover Posted December 29, 2014 #6 Share Posted December 29, 2014 Was on the Paradise and Fascination. We do the buffet for breakfast and lunch, MDR for dinner. On both, the buffet at Lido was a different ethnic theme daily. The MDR food was not the same or even similar to the buffet.
HawkIVette Posted December 29, 2014 #7 Share Posted December 29, 2014 Yeah, I have never seen Steak of Lobster in the buffet line. Some items might be the same, but not all. Enjoy the MDR. It's not all that stuffy that it sounds like. Look at it as a great experience.
Rare Tapi Posted December 29, 2014 #8 Share Posted December 29, 2014 Several items on the MDR will be simultaneously available at the buffet every night. Not every single item though. Sent from my iPhone using Forums mobile app

DallasGuy75219 Posted December 29, 2014 #12 Share Posted December 29, 2014 On both, the buffet at Lido was a different ethnic theme daily. The ethnic themes (Italian, American, French, Caribbean) are on the Lido buffet for lunch. OP was asking about dinner, which is 'normal' (not ethnic) and will have a few selections from the MDR menu. sanmarcosman Posted December 29, 2014 #14 Share Posted December 29, 2014 (edited) Very similar but food in DR much hotter than on lido My experience is often just the opposite. OP, prime rib was being carved at the buffet on the evenings prime rib was served in the dining room. Many of the evening lido dessert selections are the same as those being served in the MDR. Didn't realize there was a buffet in the MDR on some ships - there wasn't on the two I've been on. Just the menu is all we had.

misslucy01 Posted December 29, 2014 #17 Share Posted December 29, 2014 And the waiters probably don't lick their fingers before handling your plates as I have witnessed people lick their fingers in the buffet line and pick up the next serving utensil!!!! Two items are typically served at both locations on the same day: Day 1 pan seared fillet of tilapia tender braised beef brisket in gravy Day 2 spaghetti carbonara grilled fillet of corvina Day 3 jerked pork loin baked meatloaf with gravy Day 4 farfalle with roast turkey breast beef stroganoff Day 5 lasagna bolognese fried shrimp & fries Day 6 braised basa fillet roasted half spring chicken with gravy Day 7 panko crusted jumbo shrimp bacon mac n’ cheese
jackparts Posted December 29, 2014 #21 Share Posted December 29, 2014 On the Glory, Thanksgiving dinner, Lido had actual carved Turkey, delicious. C/C comments had the MDR mass sliced turkey, not great at all.
crusinpsychRN Posted December 29, 2014 #22 Share Posted December 29, 2014 The night MDR has lamb shank, the buffet has leg of lamb! Much better.
CeleBrat Posted December 29, 2014 #23 Share Posted December 29, 2014 While some of the entree items might be the same in the buffet, they certainly don't taste as good when you slop them onto your plate. Without the fancy MDR garnishes and artful plating, it's just "meh". CeleBrat
idlenote Posted December 30, 2014 #24 Share Posted December 30, 2014 The night MDR has lamb shank, the buffet has leg of lamb! Much better. Absolutely, and if you get one of the better ones doing the carving you can even get him to slice it right. Same thing on prime rib night, they slice it to order on the buffet, it's hot and the horseradish and baked potato fixings are right there, no waiting for the MDR waiter to go find the stuff while your meat gets cold. They have roast something every night.
Cruising4 Posted December 30, 2014 #25 Share Posted December 30, 2014 (edited) Will the nightly dinner menu for the buffet and MDR be available somewhere on board? Edited December 30, 2014 by Cruising4 typo
