1. In order to withdraw cash at the casino without the 5% fee you must set up your on board account as a cash account.

2. OBC from Royal will be used first. You would get a $300 refund.

3. This scenario would save you from having to stand in line but it would then not allow you to withdraw cash from the casino without incurring the 5% fee. I don't think that they will let you disembark with either a balance owing or balance due.

Ken's response is absolutely correct. We just returned from a transatlantic on Brilliance and I had purchased $2,000 OBC prior to boarding. Our account was set up as a cash account so no credit card involved. Every few nights, I'd get $500 from the casino cashier (no fee if it's your own money and cash account).

On the night before we disembarked, I withdrew the balance from Guest Services but we knew we wouldn't be charging any more to our Sea Pass at that point. I was glad we went the night before because the line up in the morning was unreal!

I made the mistake of waiting until after dinner the last night on our March enchantment cruise. Not sure if it was because there was a lot of college kids having cash accounts but I waited over an hour. Next time I'm going earlier in the day.

We had excess OBC on both cruises in our May 2015 b2b on Oasis. On the first cruise I learned there is a $500 casino limit per day so if you have a large amount be sure to spread it over a few days. On the last night we decided to have one more drink so I left that amount on the cash account and deducted the remainder from the casino, thus thankfully I didn't have to stand in line at guest services. The casino has little to no line ups so this is the way to go! Just check you balance on your TV. Be aware the casino only gives cash in $5 increments so I had a $.83 & 2.56 credit on each cruise respectively and these amounts were never returned to me. No big deal, just FYI.

Very good - thank you.

Are all types of OBC able to get withdrawn from the casino if you have a cash account set up (including nonrefundable OBC from the cruiseline)?

This thread has been very helpful, thank you!

Yes.

Just wanted to post a reply based on our experience:

We purchased $500 credit at the 10% rate (thanks again OP - amazing share!), plus we had $200 promo credit from Royal.

We sailed on Indy last week - had a fantastic first cruise!

At the end of the week, we had a balance of $128 US remaining on our account. I asked at Guest Services and they said that, since our account was linked to a credit card, any balance would be refunded to that card.

I checked this morning, and there was a credit on my CC from RCI for $158 CAD. The credit was in USD, converted by the bank, so I'm benefiting from the bank's exchange which is higher than the 1.10 I originally paid for the credit.

Thanks for posting. I had not heard of anyone who chanced having the refund go direct to the CC. Certainly saves waiting in line at guest services the last night.

Thank you for this info! I'm planning to buy $400 of OBC and it's nice to know it would be refunded back to my credit card.

Now, when you purchased it, did they automatically put it in on your sailing? I'm wondering if I can purchase for future sailings.

You can purchase OBC for as many different sailings as you want. When you call to purchase you must give them the reservation number that you want it applied to.

Just wondering if the 10% rate is still being offered to buy OBC with RCCL currently. When was the most recent anybody had purchased OBC with RCCL using Canadian funds? I do not see the dollar roaring back anytime soon, so I may throw some money on our account for our cruise next March.

Wish I had more cash left over from our most recent RCCL cruise from the OBC. I am off to the US tomorrow and have to pay 27 cents on the dollar to exchange it right now at the bank.

Hi Russ, the last post was July 2 that someone was able to get the exchange. I'll most likely be getting some more this week and will post if it's still available.

27 cents...ouch:eek:

Has anyone been able to get this deal when they booked in USA dollars? I have read the thread but I'm wondering if anyone has actually TRIED? My family members who booked the cruise did so in USA dollars because they had stock piled some money when the exchange was at par a few years ago. The dollar jumped to $0.32 this morning and I am stressing over losing so much money to exchange.

Soooo.... I called the 1-800-722-5443 number listed and they had no idea what I was talking about and were frankly not very friendly. He said there was no way that he could tell me what the exchange rate would be but guessed it would be whatever Bank of America has right now. He was completely clueless. Sigh.

I know that awhile back people were saying that you have to book your cruise in Canadian funds to get the 10% exchange. If you booked the cruise in U.S. you must pay in U.S.funds for on board credit.

sorry if this is a repeated question?

what happens if you dont spend your entire onboard credit? Do you get cash back on the last night?

If you set you on board account as a cash account they will refund the credit back in cash on the last night. If you set your on board account with a CC they will just refund the CC back.

If you want cash, you have to visit Guest Services on the last evening and request a refund. Otherwise they will credit the credit card you have associated with your onboard account.

Even with a CC on file, you can get cash back on the last day. We got US back as we didn't want the CC company to make money exchanging it on us. We also have a US bank account and put it in there when we returned home.

Interestingly, I called NCL to see what their exchange rate is. Currently theirs is running at 11%. Still a great deal. We plunked down our deposit for the Getaway today for next February right after doing the same for our two upcoming NOS cruises.
