kelkel2 Posted February 14, 2015 #2 Share Posted February 14, 2015 I would love that. I really miss the steel bands! Listening to them with a drink in hand on the Lido really made me feel like I was on a tropical vacation!
etwright Posted February 14, 2015 #3 Share Posted February 14, 2015 That would be sweet! Love the steel drum bands.
rprice11 Posted February 14, 2015 #4 Share Posted February 14, 2015 I really would have preferred some Caribbean music on our last cruise on the Victory. In my opinion even if you don't want to hire a band at least play the music.
Jeepers385 Posted February 14, 2015 #5 Share Posted February 14, 2015 Love it. I miss the steel bands at the pool area, DJ's are good for Club and some late night Party's by the pool but nothing compares with the steel bands playing while your sailing away from ports. ohioblue52 Posted February 14, 2015 #9 Share Posted February 14, 2015 Step in the right direction. Sounds like they're just looking for solo's. Would really like to see proper 3,4 5 piece bands back onboard, at least on Caribbean cruises.

SeaGoingDAD Posted February 14, 2015 #11 Share Posted February 14, 2015 How many pans are used in one band?
sg4crzn Posted February 14, 2015 #12 Share Posted February 14, 2015 I would love this also. Maybe I'm old school but a drink in the hand, listening to the steel drum band, looking out into the ocean, feeling the warm sun with a slight breeze is my type of cruising. jocko4279 Posted February 14, 2015 #13 Share Posted February 14, 2015 Steel drum bands...meh . I want the REGGAE bands back. I'm talking guitar player, keyboardist, and drummer. Not that's the good island music

Sheeba67 Posted February 14, 2015 #15 Share Posted February 14, 2015 Steel Drum and Reggae would be a welcomed change, especially when sailing from Galveston. The Country music is fine for a bit, but is a little much for the whole Carribean Cruise.

winddawn Posted February 14, 2015 #17 Share Posted February 14, 2015 (edited) http://carnivalentertainment.com/application-42 Carnival looking for talent. Best news I've heard in a while! I hope that means the DJ on deck is going away. Thanks for sharing the info. Edited February 14, 2015 by winddawn
tea4ular Posted February 14, 2015 #18 Share Posted February 14, 2015 This would be so awesome! My best friend has been cruising with me for several years now, and has not had this experience. I would love for her to have that in October when we go to the Caribbean! There is something almost magical about that! :p
Rare mitsugirly Posted February 14, 2015 #19 Share Posted February 14, 2015 This is great news. I love listening to the steel bands and reggae music. I do miss that from the 80's and 90's. It made you feel like you were on a cruise and in the Caribbean. (Although it does say it's a "Island" job? I wonder if it's really going to be for the ships or for maybe their private island?
wareaglefan Posted February 14, 2015 #20 Share Posted February 14, 2015 I would love that. I really miss the steel bands! bonnie&clydecruzers Posted February 14, 2015 #21 Share Posted February 14, 2015 Sounds promising. Baby steps in the right direction, whatever to get the poolside DJ back into the nightclub only. Bring back the steel drum bands!

meatloafsfan Posted February 15, 2015 #23 Share Posted February 15, 2015 Ugh, I guess I'll be back to other cruise lines and off of Carnival. Not a fan of the steel drums or that kind of noise. Wish they would just stick with a dj and recognizable music.

Wish they would just stick with a dj and recognizable music. I agree 100%!! Not a fan of the still drums or any other band by the pool. All the songs sound the same and most can't sing. On my last RCCL most people were not impressed with the live bands. I enjoy the live bands in the clubs and the ocean plaza but that's about it. v3cruiser Posted February 15, 2015 #25 Share Posted February 15, 2015 Those are some requirements! I hope they are compensated well! Looks like instead of a band they are looking for an individuals to possibly lead different music activities.
