HoopTroop Posted July 16, 2015 Author #2 Share Posted July 16, 2015 Norwegian Cruise Line is adjusting its daily service charges, effective for all sailings that depart on or after August 1, 2015. The new rates are: $13.50 per person per day for any category up to a mini-suite stateroom $15.50 per person per day for any suite category Any guest that has made a booking by July 31, 2015 will have the option of prepaying their service charges at the current rate if done prior to the final payment due date. Guests with existing cruise reservations who have already pre-paid their service charges at the current rate will not be affected. Norwegian's daily service charges make it easy for guests to provide gratuities to key onboard staff who provide superior guest service during the cruise, including their room steward, restaurant servers and behind-the-scenes support staff. Guests who are sailing in Suite categories also receive the services of a concierge, butler and dedicated wait staff. Sincerely, Norwegian Cruise Line®
CruisinMaterial Posted July 16, 2015 #3 Share Posted July 16, 2015 I'm all for paying the hard working crew but I'm not at all convinced the crew is on the receiving end of these gratuity increases. It seem like a money grab by NCL. They're constantly looking at how to exploit the customers lately and this seems like a method of doing so but using crew as an excuse.

Cauzneffct Posted July 16, 2015 #7 Share Posted July 16, 2015 Just received an email about an upcoming cruise. Interesting. Haven't received an email myself. FAQ still shows $12.95 and $14.95.
rvsullivan Posted July 16, 2015 #8 Share Posted July 16, 2015 Just received an email about an upcoming cruise. Did NCL send this to you regarding your December cruise? I sail a couple of weeks before that and don't have anything?

Kierste Posted July 16, 2015 #12 Share Posted July 16, 2015 I just received the email for my cruise in 2017. I might just prepay too, since it could go up two more times between now and then.:eek:
hpecorari Posted July 16, 2015 #13 Share Posted July 16, 2015 Didn't they just raise it from $12.00 to $12.95 and from $12.00 to $14.95 for suites/Haven not long ago?? I sail in October and haven't received a mailing....although my cruise already includes the DSC as one of the promos. Harriet
dacunhja213 Posted July 16, 2015 #14 Share Posted July 16, 2015 This is an extra $324 for a 2 person cruise. IT's a cost you sometimes forget about. All this plus drinks and the extras and you are spending another $1,000 at least.
emcelh Posted July 16, 2015 #15 Share Posted July 16, 2015 I haven't received anything either. Mine were booked through CAS though. Maybe they haven't notified anyone. We have prepaid gratuities as one of the promos we got when we booked so its an even a better deal now. I'm surprised they raised it again so soon. The ink is barely dry on the first increase. All this plus drinks and the extras and you are spending another $1,000 at least. That's starting from zero though, not from the previous cost of $12.95. So its only an additional $8 or so. paulh84 Posted July 16, 2015 #17 Share Posted July 16, 2015 I'm not one to join the bandwagon complainers...but man they have one terribly inconsistent product. I've never been on an NCL cruise yet and already have experienced a number of changes. For someone who doesn't stay up to date with this type of stuff, I could see how they could be in for a shock when it's time to sail. I totally get what people say about booking your cruise and rate "x" and having no idea what product you will receive when you're actually on board

watchdiva Posted July 16, 2015 #19 Share Posted July 16, 2015 Lucky for us.....we have the DSC as a promo on all 4 of our upcoming cruises. I do wonder when the increases will stop though......shoes keep dropping one after the other.
coldflame Posted July 16, 2015 #20 Share Posted July 16, 2015 What is NCL trying to do? All these changes make them look desperate and w/o a clear vision. In the few months I've been following the cruise since I made my reservation they keep making changes, then retracting them, then making other changes, then tweaking those changes, etc. This does not look good, at all. It's not prices or nickel and diming anymore. It's about a line lacking stability and an executive suite that's set their heart on: 1. confusing current and future passengers with changes in pricing and dining 2. alienating loyal fan base 3. shooting themselves in the foot
CruisinMaterial Posted July 16, 2015 #21 Share Posted July 16, 2015 I have an upcoming cruise and I haven't received it yet either, however, to avoid it being flagged as spam they probably are sending the emails out in waves. I'm sure we're all going to get it soon. :(

I'm glad I pre-paid my DSC for my two booked cruises (now there really seems to be an advantage to pre-paying DSC). I am also surprised that they would raise it so soon.
