How to get upgrade

 Share

Recommended Posts

Thanks for the reply Ashland. I logged in but I just do not see an "upgrade preferences" option. Under profile there's Personal Information, Guest Information, C&A enrollment, change username/password, cruising preferences, and on-board preferences.

Before clicking any of those, I checked the rest of the page. Then went through those above options but did not find anywhere to note an upgrade preference.

Would it make a difference on how a person booked? (ie, direct with Royal or through a TA?)

Have you enrolled in C&A? You need to be enrolled in order to set preferences.

Are you D+? I have a feeling that since this is a benefit for D+ and above the option will only appear once you reach Diamond +

The option is available to all of us enrolled in C&A. I think the OP is not enrolled in C&A - the reason I think that is one of the option she sees is "C&A Enrollment".

How many people were in your cabins for these upgrades? Especially the one to RFS?

On some, it was me, my husband and daughter. On other's it was my husband and I. The time we got upgraded from a GS to RFS it was me, my husband, daughter and niece.

I have gotten 2 upgrades so far and I am D+ for about 5 years now. Once from a GS to an OS on a Baltic cruise, and another time from a balcony to a JS. We had our 3 kids booked in a JS since it was 3 of them.. but we took the balcony that got upgraded to JS. It was nice to have the bigger room too. It was Christmas week so an upgrade that week really surprised us...

Truly free upgrades do happen but are rare. We got our first one well after we were Diamond. We are now Diamond+ with 60 cruises and have been upgraded a total of five times. Once from a balcony to a Junior Suite (Oasis), once from an obstructed balcony to a regular balcony (Quantum) the rest were insides to outsides on Freedom class.

In most cases, we only found out by checking our reservation the Wednesday before sailing, that seems to be when C&A gets the unoccupied cabins after revenue is done with their upsells. Of course, make sure you have your preferences set to automatic upgrade.

Lou, when you got the upgrades were those booked directly with RCL or through your own TA? Posters reported 10-1 more upsell offers when booked directly with the cruise line ... wondered if that held for free upgrades.

My upgrade from an GS to an OS I booked directly with RCCL. The christmas upgrade balcony to JS, my father in law booked and used a travel agent.

WE had 200+ points before both cruises and have not received an upgrade in about 2 years on other cruises we have gone on.....

So you traveled with your kids- they in a JS and you in a balcony and the balcony got upgraded? Were your original cabins next to each other? Were your upgraded cabins next to each other? Were you set to "auto" upgrade or did you have the "upgrade only if I can be near others I am traveling with? We are traveling with family in nearby cabins and that is the option we currently have selected.

To increase your chances of an upgrade, spend a lot of $$$$ in the Casino - Club Royale membership is a big help. Increase your on board spending and Revenue will love you!!! Revenue is the top dog...........C&A is second tier and get whatever is left from Revenues first choices.

Royal Caribbean has a special website you can go to and they will upgrade you from your interior cabin to a grand suite or better...And its available to Emerald members! Very cool.

Unfortunately, you have to find the website yourself, if you cheat, then they won't give you the upgrade.

I generally book through a T/A so free upgrades can happen with one. I have never been called for an upsell so having a T/A may??? be the reason.

By kids I mean 16, 19, and 22 at the time. All the kids are D+ on their own, with their own point totals. Our cabins were all right next to each other. It was on Freedom, all on the 10th floor so when we were moved, we were not moved that far away. We had auto upgrade set but did not expect anything since it was fully booked Christmas week. We had a grand suite, 3 JS's and one balcony room booked together all right near each other.... We were upgraded to a JS down the hall a little way....

Congratulations on a nice trip!

Did you have problems with your mail/stuff deliveries going to your old cabin instead of the new one? If so, how did you resolve it?

Thanks

The "upgrade ferry" is real. We have been upgraded a few times and not because we were Diamond at the time. It is usually a domino effect when a couple large suites are not sold. Smaller suites get the upgrade thus opening up smaller suites for an ocean view balcony upgrade which then opens up an ocean view balcony for an inside cabin to be upgraded, etc.

I think we have a winner here. It's not that RCL in their magnanimous generosity grants upgrades like wishes, but if sail date approaches and cabins remain unsold, folks get the chance to bump up.

To the OP, we were Emerald on Independence in Jan. and got a call a week before our trip from our TA. They'd upgrade us from a GS to an OS for $150. We went for it. We could have played coy and hoped for the free upgrade, but I'm sure someone else in a GS would happily have jumped on that deal. And if not I'll bet someone with a little more status in a GS might've snagged that OS.

As noted here, sure as the sun rises I'm betting they offered our ex-GS to someone in a JS, and someone was offered that JS... and so on.

We hopefully watched a certain site for weeks before the trip on Navigator. They has OS showing available until about 3 weeks before sail date. Too bad.

When I received my grand to an owners suite upgrade, it was 3 weeks from sailing. There were 4 out of 6 owners suites still available. There were NO grand suites or Junior suites available. After my upgrade there were 2 owners still available. I am guessing they upgraded 2 GS's, but I never saw any GS or JS come available. Maybe a wait list?

Have you enrolled in C&A? You need to be enrolled in order to set preferences.

Actually you need to enter the C&A number into your Personal Profile screen before the Upgrade Preference option would come up. I found that the hard way :)

I decided to check my reservation tonight after reading these post about possible upgrades. I was shocked to see that I have been upgraded from an inside to a balcony cabin on my cruise leaving Monday 1/11 on Independence. This is my first upgrade. I'm almost a diamond+ so I kept hoping that one day the upgrade fairy would pay me a visit.

Congratulations! :D Exciting isn't it? :D

Be sure to print out your new SetSail passes (if you can) , and you can get luggage tags from the porters at the pier.
