For some reason we are VIP

When it happened in October, I didn't even wonder about it or post about it. I really became curious after it happened the 2nd time, hence making this post.

I must say that I find it amusing that it's rubbed some people wrong. There are plenty here that I could say BOO! and their panties would get in a wad. That's just how some people are though, and no skin off my back.

Several people have been very helpful here, and I really appreciate it.

They're just jelly. I think it's great that they give people the VIP treatment. Sometimes it may be to lure people into trying a suite, because most of us know that once you've had that experience it kind of spoils you. Sometimes it's definitely who you know. Who cares which it is?

I've had better treatment in an Oceanview cabin when given lovely perks and gifts and I found it a bit overwhelming. I've had times in a suite when I've never seen the butler and that was just fine too.

Enjoy it and I hope it continues for you, but I have one request....if we're on Escape together again, please don't hog the Internet ;)

LMAO! We didn't even use the internet this time, since our son was with us. Hopefully we won't leave him again, but if we do, I can't make any promises. :p

I want to meet you if we sail together again. I met someone with your name for about 30 seconds while leaving a bathroom. We discussed something about a faucet near the floor in the bathroom by The District. I don't think it was you though, because you'd have dropped a house on me.

Definitely not me :) But I will drop a note to Andy saying I don't appreciate him allowing more than one Sally on the ship at a time. I thought I had made myself clear before ;)

Edited to add: Do NOT Google drop a house on someone. I'm so uncool I didn't get what you were saying outside of me flying in a Kansas tornado, now I wish I didn't look LOL

Thank you. You must try the Escape! The service, food, entertainment, crew were all out of this world. It was even better than the first time. I've enjoyed all my NCL cruises, but this one just topped them all.

My SIL and I were on the Escape for the first time last January. I was not feeling well at the time as that was the beginning of my illness however I didn't know what was wrong at that point. I really did not have a good time and could not enjoy the ship at all but only due to me being sick. We are sailing the Escape again in September as a "do over" as I've heard so many wonderful things about the her. We were in the Haven in October but couldn't get that great deal again this time. Regardless I'm sure will have a blast!

For some reason the last post I'd seen was from NLH Arizona, so I didn't even see the Wizard of Oz comments. I must have skipped a page. I had to go look as I thought it might be some new thing and I wished I hadn't LOL!

Too funny!

I'm glad you get a do-over, and I hope you are feeling 100% in September!

Were you in charge of the cruise critic meet and greet? Some who have done that have gotten VIP perks, myself included. Although, I didn't get all of that, but most of it.

I had the same thing happen to me. I couldn't figure out why I was getting these extra food goodies in my room and had access to specialty restaurants for lunch.

Then someone from my Roll Call explained it was because I had arranged the CC Meet and Mingle. I loved it, of course.

We just got off the Escape this morning, and for the 2nd straight cruise, we were given VIP service. We have no idea why! The perks included:

- Fruit basket and mini-sandwiches in our cabin upon boarding

- Other snacks every single afternoon

- Robes and slippers (embroidered with Haven)

- Bvlgari bath products

- Personal concierge who called every day to check on us, and offered to make reservations, escort us to shows, etc. (We used her to get into a sold out restaurant we weren't able to book ourselves!)

- Invite to Captain's reception in the Haven (we thought it would be funny to wear the robes, but we refrained).

- Invite to private VIP event in District Brewhouse

- Priority disembarkation (luggage tags and escort off the ship).

We are silver latitudes level. We sail in standard balcony cabins. We rarely gamble on the ship, and we spend very little... We have no clue why we have been selected to be VIPs twice now, but we certainly aren't complaining!

Can anyone shed any light on why this might happen?

That is awesome that you got that! I am new here, but I see your name a lot on here when I am roaming and I always find your post informative and/or funny. Sometimes good things just happen to good people :)

Thank you. We did.

I know Andy inquired quite a bit about my travel plans, and this wasn't long before the TA, so that makes the most sense. I'd simply forgotten about it.

I still have a hard time believing that NCL Hotel Directors dig into random posters on CC in order to identify them and give them VIP. If so, we'd have certainly heard about it from others much more worthy. But who knows? If people want to believe that being snarky on a message board got someone like me all this special attention, who am I to burst your dreams?

I might have missed this, but have you tried calling NCL and asking why? That's a fantastic list of perks that encompasses quite a bit of what you get in a suite!

Either way, congrats!

OP, that is an interesting story indeed. I hope you figure it out one day. While I've never had such an experience, we did have something weird happen on our Breakaway cruise last spring. In several of the dining venues, official looking people dressed in uniforms and carrying clipboards came to us and wanted to know how we were enjoying the dining, did we like everything on the ship, what could be improved, etc etc. They were not asking everyone in the room and it happened in a few different venues on different days. Never knew why they picked us. I thought maybe they were asking people who signed up for the CC roll call which would make sense. Anyway it's nice to feel special! Even if someone just wants your opinion. Which I love to give. :)

There has been one time that we got a sorta VIP treatment it may not have been a Haven treatment but good just the same an employee who we became friends made sure we had a wonderful time. The first time we saw her was on the Gem, she was our waitress and was quite exceptional and then again on the Star. On both trips she made sure we received free wine, champagne and that we always had a table in the MDR. We were happy with just those small details and needless to say we always tipped her well. She is really one of those employees who enjoys what she does.:D. I think as long as you are a good cruiser and treat employees well one of them may surprise you.:D

That's awesome! We had it on the cruise before last. Like you, we didn't utilize any of it except to get into Le Bistro one night. Still, it was a nice gesture! Edited - and I did eat the chocolate covered strawberries lol

Congrats on reaching the big 50! I hope you enjoy your greek isles 50th birthday as much as I enjoyed mine a few...ahem...several....ahem..almost a decade ago! Too bad you don't get to get to Egypt like we did but given current circumstances not sure I would want to.

Did you post a review or your thoughts on your 'round the horn trip? As you may recall, that is to date our favorite cruise so would love to know your thoughts.

Lastly, next time you are talking to any hotel director (save Brian Walters - I know him) feel free to drop my name! :D;)
