"Suite" vs. "The Haven"

Hi..

I've got a question... Thinking about a western caribbean aboard the Pearl out of NO in November 2017. I like the SF suites aboard these ships. The last time I was in an SF there were no "Haven" suites. The Pearl DOES have Haven suites along with non-Haven suite. So the confusing part to me is...What exactly ARE suite benefits NOW for someone staying in a non-Haven SF or even an SE suite? I understand no access to Haven and this is of zero importance to me.

Can someone who has been a ship with both suite types narrow down the differences?

Thanks a lot!

Only difference in perks is the access to Haven area.

Also, if by "these ships" you refer to Jewel class ships, the Haven has been there always, originally it was called the Courtyard.

Last time on the Gem we were in an SF, didn't miss the Haven at all. That's the only difference.

Book early and try for deck 10.

Totally agree on all counts. We were on an SF on the Gem in February (Deck 10, yes, go for that deck!), and were invited to a suite party in the Haven courtyard. Nothing about it enticed us, especially that little thing they call a pool.

My only caveat about the suites on the Jewel class ships -- they are really getting shabby, run down, and dated, at least that was the case on the Gem. NCL really needs to upgrade and refresh these staterooms. For anyone interested, I posted about the conditions here:

We have cruised in both aft and Haven suites on Jewel ships and there are two things that stick in our mind.

In the aft suite it is possible to leave the balcony doors open and enjoy the wonderful sound of the sea. With the ship moving forward there is rarely any wind ingress with those doors open. Also, sail-outs take on a new dimension - the aft suites are much the best place on the ship if you happen to be sailing out of Venice for example.

With the Jewel ships Havens the main benefit over the aft suites is "Space". The courtyard itself expands your available comfortable space massively. You can either relax on a big sofa or sit and have snacks delivered to you by the Haven Butler - great if you want the day to start slowly and have your breakfast out there.

There is also a huge sundeck above the port-side suites where you can always guarantee a very comfortable sunbed without having to worry about any chair hogs!

The Pearl is scheduled for a Norwegian Edge dry dock next spring before you sail. All of the public areas will be stripped down to the framing and rebuilt. All of the suites will get new carpets, new furniture, new beds and bedding. NCL has been investing a lot in revitalizing the entire fleet and the ships are looking young and new.

We were on the first cruise after the Epic's dry dock last October and she looked wonderful. The Dawn just finished her dry dock last month and here's a video of the types of renovations they do:

FYI, our Feb. cruise on the Gem was just a few months *after* her dry dock last fall. Nothing was done to those suites except for new carpets. No "revitalization." No excuse for the condition in which NCL has left them. Hopefully, the Pearl will be treated better.

How's Jade?

Recently read a review commenting on her Hawaiian furnishings.

The Hawaiian decor is still there. The Aft-Suite on the Jade was almost the same as the Star except the Star balcony has a great wrap around balcony. The cabin was nice and we had no complaints but cabin wise we preferred the Star. We did prefer the newer coffee maker. I don't think the decor of the ship took away from the ship except I did have an issue with smoke ventilation by the area outside the casino when we went to the Martini Bar and Le Bistro. We did not see the Haven area on the Jade but there is not a separate restaurant. We are looking forward to the Haven area on the Epic.

I'm with you, I always book an aft penthouse and love it, I get all the same perks they get, with the exception of the Haven area.

I agree the Haven area on the Jewel class ships is would not be a factor for me, same perks no Haven bar or restaurant.

We are in the aft H6 suite on breakaway in a few months. I thought we got access to the heaven, is that not the case?

There is 3 types of ships for suites.

No Haven:

Sky , Star , Dawn , Sun , Spirit & POA

Some suites have Haven and some don't:

Jewel , Pearl , Gem and Jade

All suites have Have access:

Epic , Breakaway , Getaway and Escape

The Jade isn't due for the modern makeover until the spring of 2017. The Hawaiian will hopefully be gone.

We picked Haven over non-Haven for our next cruise as we are going to the Fjord and wanted an indoor pool option.
