Which is the best speciality restaurant?

I realise everyone's taste is different but we will be on the Breakaway in December and if we decided to try just one of the speciality restaurants which would you chose?

We do not eat seafood or foods that contain lots of peppers, otherwise we suffer for days after :o:( Everything else is probably on the menu.

Thanks

le Bistro also agree hands down. I guess I'm spoiled when it comes to steaks because I think Cagneys is just ok. Also agree the experience from Le Bistro is that of high end French Restaurants and would cost a lot more on land.

Just remember that if smoke bothers you le bistro is rather close to the open air deck 7 casino

Many posters will now say that you can't smell smoke in le bistro

This is not true. You dont need to be sensitive to smoke to smell it in le bistro

All you need are clear nasal passages

You will smell smoke and of course not be able to sit at the sidewalk cafe tables should they place you there

If you could get placed way in the back away from the doors though you probably would not smell smoke

I would have chosen Le Bistro too if they hadn't changed the menu. No more lamb chops - only small medallions with some kind of strange sauce. No more duck confit - now it's shredded duck with sauce.

Based on the changes I would choose Cagney's. Great steaks, double cut lamb chops and a large veal chop. (Sadly, no more bison based on my September Breakaway cruise.)

I'm just off the gem where apparently everyone had the sdp

Funny thing is that every restaurant was booked 100% except le bistro

Le bistro was the only restaurant that had any ressies left at all

We had no problem getting one and had many choice times and this was for day 7 of an 8 day repo

We booked on day 5 but decided to cancel on day 6

However there were plenty of pax upset that they couldn't get a 2nd night at cagneys.

Go figure and the majority of pax were tri staters so they know steakhouses

I am a Chef who likes to have fun on Vacation. Here is my take on the Breakaway:

High Points

Le Bistro-quiet, best "date night" restaurant, service

La Cucina-best place for a family dinner

Moderno-most festive, best salad and starter bar, meats very good when cooked properly

Cagneys-best starters, best steaks most times,

Ocean Blue-best raw bar items, service

Low Points

Le Bistro-not true French cuisine, food techniques are lacking, food not as good as it can be

La Cucina-hit(great) and miss(OK) on basic fare(pasta, sauces, desserts)

Moderno-some meats are very over cooked and dry, service can slow down at times

Cagneys-Sometimes a steak is served when it should not be. Example, a porterhouse should always be a porterhouse, I have seen a T-Bone used instead.

Ocean Blue-The quality of dishes has gone down. The quality of ingredients has been diminished.

wow, I think this question is asked about once a month, but I realize some are relatively new and haven't seen the answer before: For us in order of pref;

Le Bistro

Madernos

Cagney's

I think most would agree on those 3. Madernos is very good if you like meat and a great salad bar. Le Bistro is you are into atmosphere and elegance

Cagney's if steak is your pleasure

Sorry, I am relatively new to this particular site. Problem is I don't always 'think' to do a search it just seems easier (or lazy!) to ask the question. Thanks for the replies so far.

On the Epic Le Bistro was by far the best speciality restaurant for us. Also we never had any smell of smoke and we ate there three times and have very clear nasal passages but perhaps the smoke smell was on other ships. It was very good food indeed and much better than the others which we have also gone to.

I for one don't care if the questions are asked often. Who knows when a kitchen will have a higher turn over of cooks and thus maybe having less better or more better prepared foods. It may be different from month to month, and a person on a recent trip may be able to give a more updated answer than one from 6 months ago.

Also I prefer Osso Bucco from La Cucina best of all dishes aboard ship. But Cagneys is my favorite all around followed by Moderno then La Bistro and La Cucina in no particular order.

Subjective tastes.

I do say, if your steak in Cagneys isn't cooked to your spec. send it back. I have twice had to do it. I have had some really good steaks there, after they were sent back being too well done. Med/Rare is what i like best. Have seen others send a steak back due a lot of grissel, then get a nice one.

Question on La Bistro--I know I've seen some menus that seem to list a lot of menu items with mushrooms on them, and we can't have mushrooms. I don't know if those menus were current or not.

Also, my wife is also not fond of beef, lamb, or duck.

So, I guess my question would be...would there be enough of a selection of either chicken or seafood dishes at La Bistro for us that don't have mushrooms in the dish?

No

The le bistro menu has changed and not for the better

It's definitely not for picky eaters

When I go there I get

Onion soup

Escargot

The beef dish

The chocolate fondue
