Carnival Liberty 11/19. We feel ripped off.

We received our email last week about changing from the Valor to the Liberty and that was okay, no problems. This morning we see now that our excursion has been cancelled due to a sail date change and we now have a balance due for a cruise that has been paid for well in advance. We've not received notification that our sail date is changing nor an email about the cost of the cruise changing. Anybody else experience this and end up with everything being corrected by the time all of the changes were processed?

It isn't odd at all. As I understand it they had intended to fix the problem during the upcoming dry dock but found out that they would not be able to make the repairs at that time for a variety of factors (read any of Cheng's posts about the issue) so it was decided to change homeports since the reduced speed doesn't impact the itinerary out of Florida with the shorter distances to travel.

Yah I am okay with it

You should not owe anything additional I would contact Carnival

They have already stated that they can't see the booking until all changes are made. I'm really not understanding why the excursions were cancelled if the sailing date is not changing and am hoping this is something that is a result of the ship changing and the excursion booking will be moved over to the reservation once everything is completed.

We also received the email last week about the ship change, which as first time cruisers, we are just excited to be going! But this morning, we also noticed a price change, our price went up $40 total. Not bad, and if we have to pay it, we will, it wont ruin the trip. But I'm just surprised about it. We haven't had a change in dates or anything else. We haven't booked an excursion, but right now, i'm thinking we should wait until all the changes are complete before booking anything else. I plan on calling once the dust settles, if the additional amount is not removed, to find out why it was added.

I received an email cancelling our FTTF (the only excursion we had booked) and others on my roll call did as well. I chatted with a Carnival rep who said that the cancellation emails went out in error and that all of the excursions will be put back on our bookings. Others have been told the same thing. I don't have a balance owing, and I doubt you will either when the changes are complete.

Well did the Liberty make it back to Galveston? Anyone hear reports on how the sailing went? Hopefully all went well and also with todays sailing.

Yes it made it back this morning. My grandson was on the ship and I talked with him this morning at 9:30 and he said all was good. That they had no problems.

So Carnival is replacing one ship with another of the same class, yet they have to change itineraries? Someone should ask Carnival why? It makes no sense.

Who knew two days open sea sailing is so hard on ship propulsion systems.

I have to say, i am very disappointed in Carnivals handling of this situation. I have been on the phone with several carnival Reps today about this and they are extremely non-committal on reimbursement of Airline change fares.

We have three people flying in from Albany, NY for the 26 nov cruise. They were booked on the last flight of the day going from Houston to Albany which left at 3 pm on the 1st.

Now with the ship not coming back into port until 2 pm, these three people will miss the flight and not be able to fly until the next Delta flight at 6 am the next morning of the 2nd.

I asked five different Carnival Reps whether or not they will still cover the change fees of 150 per person as they said in the email and each one came back with "Please submit your documentation to the email address and we will evaluate your situation and let you know if we will reimburse"

And as far as the 50.00 onboard credit per person, that is bs, still hasnt shown on our booking and when i talked with guest services they could not confirm it would be available by the time we sale.

This sounds more to me like carnival is just saying they will give all this reimbursement just to get us to stay on the cruise and then as soon as we submit for reimbursement they will find every way out of it.

Yes, i could file a travel insurance claim but they are a hassle and carnival put that they will cover independent air change fees in the email so they should at least give us a piece of mind that "yes, it will be covered" or "no, we will not cover your flight to hawaii and then back to your home of record"

So basically, they are saying they can't fix the ship so they are moving it to another area where the ports are close, and the ship can creep along at slow speeds. It sounds like they admit the ship is a rust bucket. :D

I believe the ship is capable of 14 knots in it's present configuration, hardly "creeping".

Nope. Not it at all. Might want to learn something about ship mechanics and read the comments from the nautical experts on here before jumping to a series of incorrect conclusions.

You have to remember that thousands of people are affected by this, so give it time. If you have something in writing from CCL saying they will reimburse you then you have all you need, gather your documentation and submit it.

But jumping to a series of incorrect conclusions burns so many calories;).

New ships are made to exceed 30 knots. Much older ships, including the first one I was ever on had a cruising speed of 21 knots. I'm pretty sure 14 knots by current cruise ship standards is slow.

Slow yes, but not creeping. Creeping is 3 knots from Norfolk, Virginia to the entrance of the Panama Canal like I did back in 1991 when our ship escorted two ocean going tugs who were towing a couple of decommissioned nuclear submarines to Bremerton.

What exactly is the big hurry unless you have to be somewhere at a certain time?

Do you really expect that from HF2010? I never expect common sense from that poster.

What a ship is capable of and what they actually sail at are two different things. I don't think I've ever sailed at higher than 24 knts and usually around 21-22 kts.

We are thrilled at the prospect of an overnight in Cozumel. We found it it humerous that people canceled because Progresso was dropped. Heck, we were just on the Liberty in late September and decided not to get off in Progresso. Dinner in Cozumel sounds great!

When I first read about the change to an overnight in Cozumel I thought to myself "wow, that would be a great option!" We've never cruised before (our first is in 20 days to the Bahamas on the Valor right before her last PC voyage) but we spend a week on Coz each year and love it! Always felt sorry for the cruisers that only get to spend a day there since many of our favorite places to eat are beautiful at night!

What would be some good options for a group of 9 at night in cozumel? It will be four adults and five teenagers.
