What was your upgrade offer and what did you bid

Not a big poster here on Cruise Critic, but I have been lurking in this thread for a while just trying to glean info, and decided I should pay it forward since I found the information here helpful.

Upcoming cruise on Getaway, originally booked into a B9 Spa Balcony.

Placed bids a while back on all the cabins offered except for the "mini-suite" (quite frankly, the room difference between a mini-suite and balcony is almost imperceptible to me, and would have lost access to Thermal Suite) and the Haven Owners Suites (minimum bid was $1,500 and just didn't feel like it was worth bidding since the top of my budget was the minimum bid, plus both of these suites have been listed as "Sold-Out" for quite some time)

In no particular order, all Haven Cabins and my bid:

Cabin:___________________Bid:

Aft-Facing Penthouse_______$1,350

Forward-Facing PH________$1,350

Courtyard PH_____________$1,150

2-BR Villa_______________ $1,400

Haven Spa_______________ $1,200

Got the email today, about 11 days from sailing that my upgrade for the Haven Spa Suite had been accepted. I priced my bids in order of desirability to me, and what I felt would be competitive. I think all of my bids except the 2BR Villa were in the "good" range.

Happy to answer any other questions for those interested.

Thanks.

Congrats! Was that the total bid amount or per person?

Congratulations, We were on the Breakaway in a Haven spa a couple of months back, lots of room and we enjoyed the suite. Nice you get the spa package too. Enjoy.

It looks like the current cost for that room is $3099, so a savings of $500 PP. Nice savings and you will love the Haven!

Yeah, I’m not sure how it all works to be honest. I called my TA on Monday and they quoted me $3,600 ($1,8000PP) to direct upgrade to the H9. So, $600PP more than I paid via upgrade bid, but would’ve also included the Shore Excursion/Internet promos. No additional OBC though. That was my TA, tried to negotiate directly with NCL as well but they wouldn’t even discuss, told me to call TA.

It doesn’t always work out that way. For the Bliss Transatlantic, the upgrade from MA to H5 was costing around $4500pp through direct upgrade (well after final payment). Bids ended up getting accepted in the $1250pp ballpark.

Guess I was just lucky then. Best advice is to check current price before bidding :)

On that cruise the max benefit out of the shore excursion promo would be 200, if you went on 4 NCL excursions. Our last trip on the Getaway we did one. I think the internet is valued at $125 maybe?? So you are still ahead. And yes, while I know many on CC report on the benefits of using a TA, I always book directly with NCL (usually CAS so have to then) to be able to negotiate with them directly.

So, if you bid up, once you have your cabin, can you request a different open cabin in the same category if it's available?

Also, can you still ask for an upgrade at checkin?

No. Once upgraded, your locked into the new cabin. I’ve tried.

Yes, but I haven’t heard of anyone having success.

You should have continued to scroll and read, on singles it clearly states you will be charged for two. It's in the FAQ's on upgrade advantage.

The FAIR thing would have been for this screws line to have canceled the upgrade refunded my bid like I asked and put me back in an inside cabin.

They would have made a customer for life.

Now they lose all future bookings with friends and family

Whats that worth? A heck of a lot more than $500

Now I am changing my cruise plan. Will be spending a lot of time at the carving station instead of the casino

No not going on their tours

nope not going into their casino

nope not going into their gift shops

nope not having the massages now

Its a new game. How not to spend one more penney with

NCL Screws line ever again

"Fair" thing to do is to look in the mirror. This was YOUR mistake. Nobody elses.

Nope, waiting. Bid on a H2, H3 and H4 from H5.

I only bid on Aft Haven but I think they were all sold out....only the forward facing was available at my last look. I guess we will find out soon...Good luck!

LOL on this upgrade. My only upgrade option was Haven so placed a bid on all, currently only 7 two bedroom, yesterday there was 8, and deluxe owner suite. My chances are NIL. Nope to outright book the 2 bedroom would be almost 10K, that's another cruise, like Alaska next summer. I doubt with this limited inventory the price will drop.

It's nice to dream :)
