What was your upgrade offer and what did you bid

So confused on this bidding process. Were in one cabin and friends are in the cabin next to us. We all decided to try to bid to get balcony rooms even tho we knew we would be separated. My group bid 250 each....friends bid 200 each. They got upgraded and we wernt. Same style cabin - so confused.

Did they pay the same as you? Did they have the same number of people in their cabin? Are you both the same level latitudes members? Did you both book directly with NCL? That info would help figuring it out.

Mine was a Casino offer and theirs was booked outright so thats likely it. I just assumed they wouldn't really care what the initial paid was just how much more $$$ they can pontentially earn.

We both have 2 in each cabin.

One is bronze in the other cabin and its the others first cruise.

Both in my cabin are Silver.

hi pretty new to cruise critic, while I am happy with the cabin I booked i would also love to be upgraded, here comes the question now when i log in it doesn't let me modify or anything it says not eligible to bid until yesterday it would let me modify ? does that mean I was denied ?

The upgrade bidding starts 80 out from cruise. But if you used a TA that does not participate in the upgrade program, you won't be able to bid. Many do but some don't want the extra work involved. So if your past the 80 day point, that's the reason. Good luck

I guess its potential earnings and what they already got paid. I bid in august and I was booked through CAS and I didnt get the upgrade...maybe that's part of it?

Sure would be great to find out why they opted to put $400 into the bank vs $500. The higher offer would increase their revenue per cabin, etc.

I see you added some information. Was there anything unique about the cabins? Extra beds, HC, connecting, etc? I noticed you said your "group" bid $250 each - I assume you meant there were the two of you in one cabin?

Did your bid go through all the way - meaning you entered a credit card number and got an email confirming your bid?

Just trying to figure out what caused them to take less money.

Lots of reasons to take a lower bid. If they need a specific room, better to upgrade to open it up. Remember, NCL gets to sell off the room vacated and might be able to get more. So NCL is getting extra revenue on both ends. If they sold more OV in GTY, they will take a lower bid on OV than a higher bid for a inside room. Lol, at least that's what im hoping. Just did a mock booking and find almost no OVs available, but many balcony and mini suite still available.

Totally agree about the need for a specific room.

But in this case the poster indicated they were the same type rooms. I am thinking along your lines that there is something different in one room vs the other - just a guess on my part of course. If we had the exact cabin numbers we could look to see what was different.

Hard to figure anything with NCL. Last November the wife and I were on B2B eastern Caribe out of San Juan. I spoke with this Canadian couple during our cruise. Their first NCL. They had INSIDE booked. Got a call from UPSELL. Got a suite for $500 PP. I am Platinum. I had 2 balconies booked. No call ! It seems I had even booked these cruises months before the first time Canadians.

I don't know what NCL does. Maybe the employees don't either !

After Reading all the posts so far. Looks as if 1st timers are getting the better deals. So maybe it is probably done on purpose. Lol, hope so as 1st cruise on NCL.

Just received confirmation of successful upgrade from sail away inside rate to spa balcony room for $100pp for the Getaway transatlantic on Oct 15th. Very excited!

Great ! good going.

Looks like the really good deals will be on the Miami bookings with the big ships not filling up.

We were on a B2B in Alaska, the first leg in an Aft Suite, the second assigned to a balcony (both thru CAS, one each commensurate with our play) . I tried for weeks before, andalso throughout the first leg of the cruise to upgrade so that we could stay in our cabin. No luck...and I was bidding pretty high. This cruise, we were assigned a balcony and I bid on the forward facing suite...we were notified 3 weeks out that we were in. I was in the low "good" range both times.

so I decided to upgrade since our itinerary was one that we wouldn't be getting off the ship. .....

This doesn't make sense? The NCL Sun was 14 days and you "kept bidding" but were notified 3 weeks ahead you go the upgrade?

I can't imagine , not getting off the ship in Alaska. To each their own :)

I'm curious, was your invite to bid on a general balcony and you got the spa? Or did the invite include the spa balcony as a separate option?

I had options to upgrade for general oceanview and general balcony - just happened to be lucky enough to get spa balcony!

We had our upgraded bid accepted from a balcony to a suite just 2 days ago, and today I paid the gratuities for the 2 of us. The original amount was $270 for a balcony, instead of the regular $310 for a suite. I asked NCL about the amount (didn't believe TA), and they said that was the correct amount, but it had to be paid through our TA, and before we boarded. Cruise was booked in March, before the April 1st increase.
