alidor Posted February 13, 2017 #1 Posted February 13, 2017 Just a quick question - can we pay for a Dubai taxi with Euros or US Dollars? Thank you!
sunfl0wer Posted February 21, 2017 #3 Posted February 21, 2017 We were just there last weekend. Although they prefer AED, they will accept both US dollars and Euros, for both fares and tips. There are plenty of ATMs, so it's easy to get AED.
jelayne Posted September 30, 2017 #4 Posted September 30, 2017 Would a taxi driver in the US accept AED? No. So don't expect a driver to accept foreign currency. If they do agree to the conversion rate won't be favorable to you. Just get some AED at a ATM.

And don't expect your driver to speak too much English, apart from understanding directions or names of hotels and landmarks.
Rare Keith1010 Posted October 1, 2017 #6 Posted October 1, 2017 You really can use USA currency. With that said, you will end up paying more so if you can get local currency all the better but if you can't USA and Euros will be taken. Keith
Rare PaulMCO Posted October 6, 2017 #7 Posted October 6, 2017 You can use Uber. Many Uber drivers in Dubai.
Rare hmorrow Posted January 14, 2018 #8 Posted January 14, 2018 You can use Uber. Many Uber drivers in Dubai. Does the American uber app work in Dubai , or do you need to download something different? Helaine
buchhalm Posted January 15, 2018 #9 Posted January 15, 2018 Does the American uber app work in Dubai , or do you need to download something different?Helaine Taxis here are plentiful, clean, safe, metered and inexpensive. Unless there is a major event on it it is raining, I never found an Uber neccessary
Grandma Cruising Posted January 15, 2018 #10 Posted January 15, 2018 We were told that taxi drivers only accepted Dirham. Sent from my iPad using Forums
Gwendy Posted January 15, 2018 #11 Posted January 15, 2018 What he said. And don't expect your driver to speak too much English, apart from understanding directions or names of hotels and landmarks. I think if they speak any English they are doing well. I don’t speak any Arabic! That said I had no trouble communicating with taxi drivers, train ticket sellers, shop assistants etc. everybody was very helpful. Don’t forget to get a card from your hotel with their name written in local language. Enjoy Sent from my iPad using Forums

But getting a card is a good idea. Your pronunciation may differ from the one the drivers are used to.
triangle3 Posted January 31, 2018 #13 Posted January 31, 2018 Have Dirhams in hand when you are at Dubai. It is easier for transactions. Most taxi drivers don't speak English well. It is not difficult in Dubai to exchange currency. There are many currency exchanges and money transfer services all around Dubai due to the high number of immigrants. Al Ansari Exchange is a popular money exchange firm with various branches throughout UAE.

Floridiana Posted February 1, 2018 #15 Posted February 1, 2018 Very funny buchhalm. :-) I wonder what an American would do with the pronunciation of your screen name. :-)
