Background Music - over and over and over and over...

By the way, I do not remember any background music on Princess having anything other than the music itself. No singing. No screaming.

Really? We've heard the same playlist with the same female vocalist seemingly wailing in pain while in the dining room on every Princess ship we've been on for the past 8 years or so. I know this with certainty because, just as surely as the sun rises in the east, DH will have to comment on how much he hates it. Every. Single. Time. :o

No need to get snarky. Glad you know it all. Give up trying to offer any help. That is what is wrong with cruise critic. Everyone thinks they are THE expert.

Hardly snarky, sorry you find yourself being offended.

Nowhere did I claim to be THE expert, but personally, I prefer getting the answers to my questions from people who actually know. I'm a stickler for facts.

As someone who spends most of her time at the pool on Caribbean cruises, I can relate to the infinite song loops. Especially when they play songs from before my time. I do like the oldies somewhat, but some choices are quite obscure. And I do love music.

One the 2 NCL cruises I took recently they played more popular music.

On the Regal last year their song loop consisted of mainly indie music, which I liked.

I guess you can't please all the people all the time, but some more variety would definitely be nice....

It drives me crazy on a 10-day cruise. Imagine being a bartender and having to listen to the same 18 songs for 10 months...

I was told by the captain that they will create a bigger playlist of music if EVERYONE follows the dress code on formal nights and that there are no chair hogs that day at the pools.....until then.....it will probably be samo samo.....;p

Hi Thrak,

Just letting you know on the Rowboat. We only play " A Pirates life is a wonderfull life". If you don't like it :mad:No rum for you :o :o. Only that Princess Champagne they make in the boiler room on Thursday.

From the Captain of the Rowboat.

Tony

You forgot the moldy bread and weevil infested beans. By the way when Princess cruisers die they will know they are in hell because they will be permanently attached to a lounger with Tina Turner playing on a continuous loop on MUTS.

I was just sharing some tunes with a bartender last night & yes the repetitious music does drive them nuts.

If anyone has ever worked retail, how about the SAME loop of Christmas music over and over and over for 30 days of 12 hours shifts.....If I hear Mariah Carys song again, I will go............

At least this is "normal" music

I once went to work with JC Penny for Christmas. "Join our family for 2 weeks". (I was "their boy" and they kept me on when they let the others go. I finally quit around Easter as it no longer fit with my school schedule.) At Christmas I heard the same songs over and over and over and over. Even "better" there were a bunch of novelty alarm clocks and kids would come through and set them all off. I needed the job and, in reality, I have had far (far!) worse jobs so I just went with it, smiled, was cheerful, etc.

I just asked my wife and she can't ever remember background music on a Princess cruise either. Music from a DJ or performers in the bars, music from performers in the atrium, etc. but no pervasive background music anywhere.

We cruised 15 days SF/Hawaii on Star Princess and there was absolutely no Hawaiian music at all. It was sad. The did offer Ukulele lessons and Lei making lessons but that was it. We might as well have been on a cruise to Russia or somewhere for all one could tell from the shipboard atmosphere. The CD was JJ Ulrich and we didn't care for him at all. I asked about the Wake Show trivia and he said something like, "Oh, yeah. I need to pull those forms. I don't do that stuff.". I mentioned a previous CD we liked a lot and he just smirked and said something like, "Oh, yeah. He's a bit "different". The wake show was pretty much all done from venues that have extra charges and were like an advertisement to get you to spend money. Hopefully we will never have this particular CD again. We had really thought there would be something around the ship - music, decor, something - to show it was a Hawaiian cruise. Nope. Not a freaking thing.

that's sad. Of my three Hawaiian cruises, we had two good ones (either Cole or Joseph and Baker for the last one) and one who was filling in for someone on a vacation break -- he seemed to be calling it in, and many noticed that. On the last day of the cruise, when there was a party in the grand atrium, with members of the CD staff joining in and dancing with the passengers, someone pointed out that the CD was up on the next level looking at the action, and saying I think that's him. About ten minutes later, he was gone.

:confused: I must have gone to heaven - there was no Tina Turner on MUTS on the Diamond in January.

I have never really noticed the back ground music either... so I would say they are doing a good job on their selection... back ground should be just that... if you want something else bring wiith you.
