Just for fun, what is the single worst thing you have seen a carnival cruiser doing?

Recommended Posts

It's not really a "worst" thing but one my first cruise I saw a 12ish year old girl sitting at a slot machine and....playing! I knew then that things on cruise ships were a little different.

Not so different if she had won she would not be able to recoup the money. You'd see how fast the attendant would come and alert them of the rules and not pay them the jackpot.

I wore ball gowns and he wore his formal military uniform. We hadn't planned on buying any photos but there were several really good pictures so after checking our finances we went back to buy them. Somebody had already bought all of our pictures!!
With the prices they charge for photos, I doubt that somebody else would have bought yours, even if for some reason they thought your DH was the captain. I would hypothesize that the person was possibly anti-military and they took your pics and threw them away.

Either way, thank your hubby for his service.

Not seen but effected and affected our cruise...

Boarding a weekend cruise on the Paradise in Long Beach, embarkation was halted about 30 minutes after boarding had started. We waited many hours in the Carnival Dome. No food can be taking off the ship to feed the crowds, only water was let off. Long Beach does not have any chairs. It's basically a glorified warehouse.

We saw all sorts of police and canines board the ship. Finally we were let on around 6 and had the quickest Muster we've ever had. Thorough but only stayed on deck 9, didn't go up to our lifeboats. (Fantasy Class has a two stage Muster process)

Come to find out that an elderly couple left the ship on the sea day of the previous cruise. Their cabin was locked with the Snoozing sign out. Their balcony door was unlocked. It wasn't discovered until they failed to check out during debarkation. One was found a few months later, the other was never found. Obviously this put a damper on the rest of the cruise. The crew was very much in shock.

From this incident the room stewards are required to report if they do not see any movement any in a cabin for 24 hours. Even if you have the Ninja Steward they know if you've been in your cabin. It's also the reason we bring some food with us at embark.

We too were on this same sailing. We embarked early and were roaming the ship. When we went to the spa "tour" in hopes if winning free services, we all kept saying we couldn't believe how empty the ship was. When one of the gals in our party looked out at the gangway and noticed the horrible line. It was really sad to learn about the cause, and it really bothered us for the short cruise too.

All of these are freaking hilarious.

I have been pretty lucky in 10 cruises to not have anything too terribly bad. But this one qualifies as entitlement I would think.

There was an older woman on one of my cruises who would turn her lounger on serenity deck completely sideways to face the sun. Now, as a person who used to sunbathe, I get it. However, when there are people on walkers attempting to get around your chair and you don't get up to move and continue reading your kindle, it comes off as entitled.

I think perhaps she could have chosen a chair out of the main row of "traffic" where it would not impede the forward motion of passengers moving through.

I've known people that would grab an extra box of cereal and throw it in their beach bag for a beach snack later. But never loading up ziplock baggies of pastries. :o

OMG. I wonder if people thought my husband and our friend were doing something like this. The first time we were on the Pride, we made friends with two couples who were sailing together. One night, when none of the entertainments sounded appealing, dh and I were walking around the ship and ran into our new friends in one of the public areas (can't remember which one -lots of couches). They invited us to join them and we decided to have drinks and dessert. We sent two of the guys up to the buffet to get an array of desserts. They came back with 3 teeming trays of desserts because they didn't know what everyone liked.

Princess, not Carnival. While I was waiting for my turn at the omelet station, I watched two little, old ladies at the buffet fill their beach/tote bags with fruit. They methodically inspected and handled every single banana, apple and orange before putting it back or dropping it in their bags. I was in awe of their upper body strength. Those bags were bulging with fruit.

I will, thank you.

There were a few other photos of ours taken as well, non uniform/military related photos.

In the dining room on elegant night a man gave us a bottle of wine and he sat upstairs basically looking down at us. Anytime our glasses came close to empty he'd run downstairs and yell at the staff for allowing our glasses to get low; we were mortified especially because neither of us cared for the wine and didn't really want more. Every night at dinner anytime we looked his way he was starring at us. Whether it's true or not he'd make spy/CIA references and gave us a weird vibe. We always wondered if he was the one who took them. I hear it's different now but this was when you had to hunt the walls for your pics. We recognized surrounding photos to remember where ours were located. The next night all of ours were from the different walls were gone but the other surrounding ones weren't. We checked ALL of the photos again but all of ours vanished. So bizarre.

I seriously doubt that people who feed the fish "People Food" care if it's good for the fish or not.

It's their vacation and they'll do what they want.

Perhaps you've earned the right to your cynicism, and I apologize for disagreeing, but I think most people, if they knew better, wouldn't harm the fish population intentionally.

Haven't read through them all yet so sorry if it might sorta be a repeat. I was waiting in line for ice cream once behind a family of 3-4 kids and their mom. Each one got an ice cream cone, but then once mom was done she told them all to top off their already half eaten cones. These kids were sticking their ice cream (already covered in their nasty spit) all the way up to the point where ice cream comes out while they tried to make the cones as big as possible. I'm not one to be grossed out by germs but even this got to me and I walked away with no ice cream that day.

Saw this on another board and thought this would be a great topic. so lets hear it!

This is not meant to offend parents by any means. We've seen and met many cruisers with children having a great family time.

One cruise comes to mind when we saw a couple on a regular basis, let their small children (ages 2, 4 and 6) run all over. I only know their ages because someone asked. They would run around the buffet, into people, grabbing food and throwing it, most of the time basically unsupervised when the parents were either way behind them or lounging and the kids would go off alone.

The last sea day we saw them all together, one child bandaged as he apparently took a spill and split his head open.

I know I may get crap for saying this but one thing that's bugged me lately on cruises (and beaches in general) is how scant outfits and bathing suits are now. Like I can't go to a pool or enjoy a day on the beach without seeing some thong bathing suits and boobs hanging out of tops (as this is the new 'style'). And in general see through clothes and short shorts that make you wonder if those are even shorts to begin with.

I guess I'm just a prude.

Btw I'm 23 so it's all people my own age too. I'm just in the minority that doesn't like it. Lol.

You are mature for your age!

Respectability comes to mind as I read your post. So many people have no respect for others OR THEMSELVES. People in my generation (Gen X) wear the skimpy outfits, too.. I have seen way too many people wearing thong swimsuits who have no business wearing them. If the thing "disappears" because you have a large boogie, perhaps you should rethink your choice of swimsuits.

See I'm a guy and I enjoy this, shhh don't tell my wife. But even I thought the same thing this past cruise. Women with thongs and itty bitty tops while 12 year old boys walk by them or share the same pool cause they're hanging out by the main pool. I mean they have the right to enjoy their vacation but it seems so awkward to me to be so not covered up around children.

The peeing on the deck was still my worst but our first cruise was a belated honeymoon and welcome back from deployment trip. I wore ball gowns and he wore his formal military uniform. We hadn't planned on buying any photos but there were several really good pictures so after checking our finances we went back to buy them. Somebody had already bought all of our pictures!! Not the nice way as in for us but they took our pictures home. These were shots of just the 2 of us and there was no reason for anyone else to take them. We were bummed to lose the photos and totally weirded out on who and why there were taken.

You can go to the photo desk and ask for reprints. I've had to do that a few times when my picture(or my mom's) wasn't on the walls. They bring up the file of all the pictures taken at that event on a tablet. The employee will go through the pictures until your picture is found. It is possible that it won't be found if the picture turned out poorly to begin with(blurry, eyes closed, etc).

Well some I enjoy, some I seriously consider gouging my eyes out.

I'm surprised it didn't set off any alarms. I thought the pictures had little stickers on the back that the cashiers have to disable when you buy them.

There is an alarm but she ran through the crowded casino. No one noticed

Exactly! To me-people wear stuff like this to get another person's attention. Makes sense. However, there's a time and place for that. I'm married and so I understand the desire to have someone looking at you in that way, but I don't feel comfortable having everyone and their families seeing me the same way my husband does. I only want my body and the goods to be seen by my husband. Lol. As another poster mentioned too, there are young boys there who just started having 'those' hormones! I don't want some 12 year old looking at me and thinking of me like that. That's disgusting.

And additionally, I was talking to my mom the other day when looking for a bathing suit and I told her that I want to be able to feel confident and respectable wherever I am. Therefore I don't wear skimpy shorts that if I'd be embarrassed in if I saw my pastor. I also wear the same things to dinner with my family that I would to the mall. Call me arrogant, but I don't ever want to be ashamed of myself. So I'm not going to buy a skimpy bathing suit that will make me feel uncomfortable when my grandma sees pictures from my vacation. Just my thoughts.

I agree! Now I have a question for you that has no strings attached. I just want your opinion. You mentioned you like seeing it, which is fine and I'd be lying if I didn't anticipate some people liking it. However, would your opinion change if it were another person looking at your wife wearing that stuff?

I've heard people say yes it would bother them, and I've heard people say no-because they're still going home to you every night. So I'm just curious of what you think. :)

Along the same lines, I don't understand the need for women to breastfeed everywhere especially on a cruise ship. I know it isn't meant to be sexual and is natural, but in our culture it is still odd to see it (for better or for worse). I think it is inappropriate and rude for a woman to breastfeed on the Lido deck or in the MDR when she could go to her room less than 5 minutes away. I may get flamed for saying this but whatever.

You aren't going to get flamed from me - a mom who breastfed my children when they were babies. To me it is all about doing it discreetly. Whenever I could I would go somewhere private - preferably home - but sometimes circumstances were such that I had to be somewhere with my older child at a time when the infant needed to be fed. To me the key is going somewhere at private as possible, and covering up completely with a blanket, towel, burp cloth, or whatever the mom (should) always have handy. With a little discretion a baby can very easily be breastfed without anything being on public display, or anyone around even really noticing.

Not a cruise ship story but I was at a baseball game the other night when a boy, probably about age 6 or so, came up to his mom in the bleachers, unbuttoned her shirt, and started sucking. Talk about being able to hear a pin drop. Even the kids playing baseball stopped playing to watch. I am all for a woman's choice to breastfeed her baby whenever the child needs to eat but OMG, just no to something like this.

That's exactly what I mean, thanks for not making me feel like a prude or a woman/baby hater- because believe me, I'm not. I just don't think there is any time on a cruise ship that a mother cannot make it back to her cabin easily with minor annoyance to her and the baby, out of respect to people who are eating or not as progressive as they are. I mean honestly, I haven't had a car that didn't have A/C in 30 years, I don't understand why the mom in your situation wouldn't just go back to her car. To me it is about attention or something, not about the bonding and nutritional aspect. Now if I'm a guest in someone's home and they feel the need to do it in front of company, I think that is totally different too.

Same as when we go to Hedonism II down in Jamaica for our private getaways. My Life Partner wears stuff that she would never wear on a cruise ship because that is the time and the place for it. We certainly smell our fair share of people partaking in marijuana down there and don't care because it is Jamaica and even though it's not really legal (I don't think) it is accepted so who am I to say something? Same way with a concert or something where it's just accepted. But when people do it on a cruise ship I just think that is pretty weird and down right offensive, we all know it's not addictive and pretty safe but I don't get why they can't just wait until you get home or something. People just blow my mind sometimes, I'm all for freedom, but don't do stuff to rub it in people's faces because you are impeding on their freedom at that point.

I believe a woman should be able to breastfeed wherever she wants, but I notice a difference between the ones who want to because they need to feed their baby and the ones who do because they want to make a social statement. If your baby needs fed, go for it. I'm not going to stop you. But please cover yourself to not make others uncomfortable. Even if it's a natural process, it still is something to be kept sacred within your family.

And about the baseball game, oh my! That sounds uncomfortable and PAINFUL!

I'm 31 but I've always been a prude too. I realized how modest I was when my 17 year old boyfriend's mom was telling me I should show off even a little cleavage. I'm very large chested, I was a DDD+ back in my skinny days and wouldn't show even the very top of my cleavage.
