In an abundance of caution, due to Hurricane Irma, we will be taking our reservations system offline to avoid any potential issues as the storm passes over our facilities in South Florida. Our website and reservation system will be unavailable from Saturday, 09/9/17, at Midnight EST, and restored by Tuesday, 9/12. We are hopeful that systems will be restored late on Sunday once the storm has passed.

This down-time will impact all system tasks, including the creation of a new booking or servicing of an existing booking. Unfortunately, this down time affects both our online activity, as well as our phone agents. In addition, other services such as online check-in, will also be unavailable during this period. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. Our teams are working hard to ensure that this pause in service is as short as possible. Please be advised that if you have a deposit or payment due for your upcoming cruise vacation during this down time, your payment is now due by Tuesday 9/12. Otherwise, we anticipate our systems to be back on line by this Tuesday, 9/12.

I thought the "call center" was in the Philippines??? Main Head Quarters is Miami, they have been evacuated on a free cruise on the Enchantment. Why would the Philippines be shut down?

If the whole booking system is shut down why do you need a call center?

They have a major call center in Oregon as well as the Celebrity call center in Kansas. It sound like their main servers are in the danger zone and rather than risk losing everything, they will be inconveniencing people for a day or two. The sentence about online activity and phone agents is to specify that none of the booking systems are going to be operational so don't call and expect to do something that is shut down online.

:o Hey, don't shoot the messenger! They're just trying to protect their system I suppose.

Thanks for sharing the information. Makes complete sense to take the systems down with everything housed in the hurricanes path. Hopefully, they will be able to get everything back up quickly after the storm has passed.

It's the location of the data centers, not the call centers, that's important here. Without access to the data, the call centers are useless, regardless of where they are located.

I'm a bit surprised that their web site/reservation system are apparently geographically constrained in this day and age. As an outsider, it's difficult to discern many details of their overall infrastructure, but they do use Akamai's content delivery/edge computing network...there should not really be a dependency on some data centre(s) located in Florida. It's the cloud...workloads can be moved anywhere with relative ease.

Maybe they have a NOC in Florida and if the cloud rains, their staff may not be able to fix it from Enchantment...

If RCL put their employees on a ship, you can bet there is a large concern over their safety rather than worrying about maintaining their reservation system during a devasting hurricane to affect most of the state of Florida. TAs were notified of the shut down.

Really!!!!!

I am sure if it is absolutely necessary to get notices out regarding upcoming sailings, they can do so from the ship's internet system.

Let's pray that Florida comes out better than the dire predictions being made about damage and that residents remain safe.(yn)(yn):ship:(yn)
