As always, it is a fantastic review and I reallllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllly enjoyed reading it!

I was living the cruise with you and now it's over. :(

Will hold me till I go on the Pride in January.:)

Thank you for doing this. When and where is your next cruise? Hopefully I will get to see you and your lovely family on some cruise, some day.

What another great review, and I got to see this one from the start. I am leaving for the Carnival Sunshine on Friday and find myself double checking your signature line for taxi info on recommendations, etc. You are a super star and a great help.

Kim, the lady popping the balloon thing - on Princess they have a balloon drop where the balloons contain gift cards like $25 coffee card, $100 for the spa, $25 for the casino - that kind of thing - so she probably thought Carnival does the same thing, but it looks like they just have cruisers sign the balloons and that's it. On Princess, some people have been hurt because people will bring something sharp to pop the balloons with and they are popping balloons really fast - so I just stay away from that - not worth getting cut.

Thanks again for such a great review.

So...when is your next cruise?

I’m glad everyone had such a great time. I really wonder what happened with Billy in Roatan, that’s scary! I’ve only got 17 days to pass the time until our Christmas Cruise & your review is definitely helping me do that!

I am so sad to see the end. Thank you so much for taking the time to complete this review and for sharing your family with us! I'll have to keep an eye on the NCL boards in April for your next one! We have only done Carnival, and I used to think NCL would not be to our liking, but your reviews have about convinced me to give them a shot!

Thanks for your comments. So glad you enjoyed it and keep an eye out in April. :D NCL is really wonderful and have a lot of extra "perks". There a lot that is the same as Carnival and I think you would like it.

I really enjoy your reviews. The pics you have are truly beautiful! So glad you have such a good time with family when you cruise!

Aww thanks. I'm glad you enjoy it. We definitely have a great time.

I just did my first cruise with NCL and really enjoyed it -- probably the most fun I've ever had on a cruise ship. I will be glad to see your take on the Mexican Rivieria as that is one we have considered and it would be an easy one for us to do at some point. Thanks again as always for such an informative review and letting us see all the fun your family had!

So glad to hear that you enjoyed your NCL cruise and it was a lot of fun. We love NCL but have just been branching out to try to cruise ships that we haven't cruised yet. We seem to be doing a lot more Carnival these days because they have ports that NCL doesn't seem to have.

Thanks for the comments.

THANK YOU for such an in depth and WONDERFUL review!! We were on this sailing on the Magic with you and you didn't miss a 'beat'!! I relived our cruise through your and it was a wonderful trip down memory lane!!! THANK YOU again for doing such an incredible review for us all!!!!

Aww thanks! I hope you had a wonderful cruise on the Magic. I didn't get to meet anyone from our very active roll call on social media. I tried to introduce myself to a huge crowd once and someone threw their hand up, as in hi, then everyone went back to talking. So I just kept to myself.

Thank you so much for the nice comments about the review. I appreciate it.

Hi Kim...just love reading your reviews...I feel like I was on the cruise with you and your family...enjoying all the exciting adventures ...thank you ...we are going to Bermuda at the end of May on the Escape...why don't you join us..

Thanks so much and glad you like reading them. Bermuda is just so extremely nice. I hope to get back there again some day soon. I miss it and the way you can have several days there and not have a time frame. I wouldn't be able to do a May cruise because Sakari is still in school and with already taking her out every November, I don't think that would work out too good with the school. :p Have a wonderful cruise!

Bravo Kim!!! Another wonderful review from you. Thanks for once again sharing your experiences, insights, and your family with us. Looking forward to your next adventure! clear.png?emoji-grin-1677

Thanks so much! I heard you were doing a review too and I'll have to look for yours.

Awww, thanks sooooooooo much! Ahh, I love the Pride. I hope you have a wonderful cruise! Next spring break is our cruise...3 months 25 days to go! I would love to run into on a cruise some day!

What another great review, and I got to see this one from the start. I am leaving for the Carnival Sunshine on Friday and find myself double checking your signature line for taxi info on recommendations, etc. You are a super star and a great help.

Oh nice, Sunshine! I would love to sail on the Sunshine. I hope you have a wonderful cruise and find something great to do.

Thanks again for such a great review.

So...when is your next cruise?

Hmm, that could be about the balloon thing but she wasn't looking for anything in the balloons and she kept doing it, so not sure. They did have little pieces of paper they gave to everyone at the balloon table and told them to write what they liked about the cruise or an experience and put it in there. Some did that while others (like us) just wrote it on the outside. So, she wasn't checking the pieces of paper when she was popping them. It was just weird I guess.

Next up is our annual Spring Break cruise in April.

I’m glad everyone had such a great time. I really wonder what happened with Billy in Roatan, that’s scary! I’ve only got 17 days to pass the time until our Christmas Cruise & your review is definitely helping me do that!

I guess we'll never know what happened to Billy. Super scary but glad he recovered by the next day.

Have a wonderful Christmas cruise!!!!

Kim, thanks for the great review! I can't believe you actually found your balloons!

Thanks and we made sure we put the balloons all on the same end and then that's where we stood during the drop. So, chances were good I guess (for finding them). I didn't think there were that many balloons to begin with. When we were on another Carnival cruise, the entire net was completely full. Now that would have been hard!

You ARE simply the best Kim! I loved all of your novel! Thank you thank you!

Excellent review! Thank you so much for taking time to share it. The details you share truly help when it comes to planning for where and what we end up doing when we cruise.

I’ll be waiting (impatiently) for your April cruise review. We’ve never thought about cruising the Mexican Riviera due to it being on the west coast, but maybe I’ll change my mind.

Thank you, again!

Hi all!

Kim ~ fabulous review as always, sorry to see it end!:( Looking forward to seeing the Mexican Riviera & the Star through your eyes. I did one cruise there on Celebrity back in Feb. 2006 & really liked it, especially Puerto Vallarta which DH & I went back to later for a week. We sailed the Star around Hawaii in 2004 & I'll be on it from Venice in June so looking to see how it's held up.

Thanks for all you do for us. Merry Christmas & all the best to you & yours in the New Year.

Kim another great review was enjoyed.

Are you going on the Bliss in April?

I keep thinking of Billy and Roatan and I believe if you guys didn’t show up when you did Billy would have been dragged off somewhere and it makes me shudder to think of Cam being left behind on her own and him ending up god knows where and how. Scary crap going on there.

Have a great winter, will be watching for your next up in April

Thanks

Bummer! You're review is over. :( Oh well, all good things have to come to an end.

Believe it or not, we actually flew over the airport (John Glenn International) that you have picture of (sign) in your last section on that long arse flight we had from Wash. Dulles to Honolulu (direct...10 hours) in September. The screens on the planes with the tracking information help so when we were flying over a city, we knew which one it was. Once home, Google Maps (Earth) is my friend to let me know what we were flying over. Soooo, that's how I knew. I saw there are actually 2 airports in the Columbus area? I'm so glad you'll be doing a Mexican Riviera cruise!!! We did one on RCI in January 2000, so I'm really looking forward to yours. I did not have a digital camera then, only a film camera, so not much in the way of pictures. What ports will you be stopping at? We were in Cabo San Lucas, Mazatlan, and Puerto Vallarta. Chilly (and very foggy on last sea day) while at sea but it was still warm in ports that time of year. I'd love to do another cruise to the Mexican Riviera and it's been so long it would be like new ports.

Thank you again for taking the time to do another review, I always enjoy them, your pictures and seeing as how we are also beach people, I love getting ideas.

Thanks, Kim, for another fantastic review. We're on board Magic for Spring Break headed to the same ports. Since you have experience at this locations, what have been your favorite places to go at each Magic port? My family is big on snorkeling and adventures like yours...and we've used your tips in the past with much success.

We decided to find a table and order something to eat. Only all of a sudden Billy couldn't even walk...or stand...or hardly talk. What the heck was wrong with him? He was fine one minute and not the next. What did this guy do to him? Did he slip something in his drink? We had no idea. He was no longer around. I still wonder if Billy can back with the same amount of money he went to Roatan with. He usually has a pretty big "wad" with him and he might have flashed it too much when paying for drinks. We'll never know I guess. We just know he wasn't functional.

The guys kinda hung out at the bar most of the day. Prior to leaving for this cruise (a week) the guys went in on a business together and it was very hectic the week before leaving. They were on their phones a lot and making sure that their new business they left behind was running smoothly.

Hey Kim:

Long time reader, you are almost the only reason I check back here from time to time. Great review! Have a few questions.

What kind of new business did hubby open?

From past reviews, I know that your family does not drink much, even when you have the free drink package. It was so odd to read about the Roatan experience and Billy. Getting drunk to the point of not being able to walk while watching a child was very out of character based on past reviews for your family. Did Billy have a theory about what happened to him?

Where to next? Will 2018 have both land based and cruise vacations or will you return to just cruise vacations?

Bruce...

Thanks and glad you liked it. Although my reviews are lengthy, my main goal is to help others out and maybe be able to give them some details on places to visit.

Enjoyed your review as usual! Can't wait to hear what you feel about the west coast cruise. It is a very different experience.

I can only imagine how different it is' date=' but I can't wait.

Jo,

What did you like about PV so much that you went back for a week? I'm going to need some suggestions. :D

I have sailed the star once already and honestly it's one of my least favorite ships of the fleet (and the Dawn), but I think it was refurbished at some point over the last few years. But any cruise is a good cruise. Not that I don't like the Star, just not one of my favorites.

Thanks and Merry Christmas & Happy New Year to you and your family too.

Hi and thanks.

No we will be on the Star. The Star is the only ship offered to the MR in April.

I know what you mean about Billy. Kendra was saying the same thing. It literally happened within 15-20 minutes after we got there and to think about what could have happened to Kam is scary.

You have a great winter too.

Where to next? Will 2018 have both land based and cruise vacations or will you return to just cruise vacations?

Bruce...

Hi Bruce. Good to see you again.

The hubby actually went into a partnership with Billy. You know the hubby owns a store for extreme sports (blading, bmx, skateboarding and so on), well Billy has been trying to get him to go in on a partnership together for about 2-3 years. Billys profession is he owns a car dealership. He's been wanting to expand for awhile. So, they bought another and went in together. They partnered up mid October but didn't seal the deal for the location until 1 week prior to leaving for vacation. It was hectic to say the least!

Yea, we are not big drinkers. Billy is a big drinker...off and on. He had not drank at all for about 4 months prior to vacation. Vacation would be the first time that he had a drink for a long time. But, when we got back from diving, he was not drunk...had a few drinks yes (and ate lunch), but not drunk. Then all of a sudden...he couldn't talk or walk. I have seen Billy plastered but he's never been like this. He can still talk (and actually he gets very talkative when he's drunk) and although he may be a little off balance as well, but never not to the point where he basically had to have 2 people almost carry him. There's just no way it was just alcohol only.

Up next is a Mexican Riviera cruise in 3+ months. It will be a first for us.

I would really like another land vacation. We just had such an amazing time on this last one.

From your photos at Blue Kay it appeared that you weren't very far from the port. Has anyone ever commented on how the snorkel beach is right at the port? I saw the info sign with the arrow indicating "snorkel" and just wondered if it was similar to what you found down the beach aways.

Do what's best for you and your family. There's nothing worse than having a terrible time because of the experience your kid has. Trust me, I know. We took a family vacation to Smokey Mountains back when Sakari was a little over a year and it was the worse vacation ever. Her crying and whining and she was trying to learn to walk and didn't want held, but couldn't walk so had to be held (picture doing a cave tour at Ruby Falls and being down in the caves and her screaming and echoing). She was just terrible that vacation and we vowed to never take her again until we knew that she would do good. And we didn't until her first cruise (and that was pretty much a trial run). LOL

Thanks for reading the reviews and have a wonderful cruise either way.

Kim, great review and great pics. I always look forward to your reviews. Just a heads up Ruby Falls is not in the Smokies but is located on Lookout Mountain, Chattanooga, Tennessee.

As always this was another great review. I love all of the underwater pictures and seeing all the scenic shots of where you go....Plus, the cute photos of the family.

I was on a Mexican Riviera Cruise a number of years ago, and I hate to tell you that I was disappointed in the Pacific Ocean. I hope you have better spots to try out planned. After that cruise I just knew I liked the east coast of Mexico far better than the west coast.

Oh wow, I sure wish I did have suggestions. That was going on 18 years ago. LOL!!! We went with my husband's family on Royal Caribbean as a Christmas gift. His late father was semi-retired but was a TA that worked for a company specializing in cruises and he was able to work from home (both his parents loved cruising). I do know we booked all excursions through the cruise line.

In Cabo, we did a snorkel/sail excursion where we snorkeled first then got back on the sailboat for the rest of the tour, which included a trip out to the famous arch (a can't miss, kind of like St. Lucia's Pitons) and further up the coast before returning. The one we were on was also a booze cruise (unlimited Margaritas/beer). Since you'll be going with your family and you mentioned you weren't big drinkers, I don't think you're looking for a booze cruise, but I'm sure there are other tours that offer both snorkeling and a boat trip out to see the arch. After the tour, we spent a couple hours just strolling around Cabo San Lucas before taking the tender back to the ship. Even though it was warm in port, it was January and the water was a little cold. I can't recall how the snorkeling was because it was a little too chilly for me and I lasted maybe 10 minutes, if that.

In Mazatlan, we did the shopping in the Gold Zone (their famous shopping area) and beach excursion (also through the cruise line). We spent a little time browsing the shopping area but we mainly wanted the beach break portion. We were at the beach right at the Gold Zone. The water was FREEZING, so I didn't get in. It didn't look clear either. I don't know if there are snorkeling areas or not. There are some small islands off the coast that they take tours to, but I don't know about snorkeling. If you have wet suits for scuba, bring them. :)

In Puerta Vallarta we did the catamaran sail across Banderas Bay to a small, secluded beach. The beach was very scenic and the water was warmer than in Cabo or Mazatlan. I didn't notice anyone snorkeling from the beach we were at. It was more of a beach to hang out at for a few hours. On the ride back, they took us closer to shore where there were a few stops at points of interest, kind of like Spencer Ambrose's "sea tour" portion for the ride back from his tours. I do know there IS snorkeling in Banderas Bay in other areas. There are rock formations out in the water with arches and there were a lot of snorkeling tours there. On our ride back, they did stop there and I believe that's what my husband's father did. I think he said the snorkeling was really good. There may even be scuba tours in PV.

We were still cruise newbies then (only our 2nd cruise, first was 8 years before that), so didn't realize there were so many more options as we do now. Overall, we did really like it and the scenery is much different than the Caribbean but still gorgeous, almost desert like in certain areas, especially Cabo. But I'll definitely be looking for your review to get more ideas. :) Sorry I couldn't be more help to you.

Blue Kay is the first (and closest) beach to the port and right at the beginning of the malecon.

I never knew there was a snorkel beach at the port. There was never a way to even get down in the water from the port if you were there at the pool or at the lounge chairs facing the ships by the water. It's too rocky there. Maybe the sign is for those that booked some type of snorkel excursion? I'm not sure but would like to find out.

Kim, great review and great pics. I always look forward to your reviews. Just a heads up Ruby Falls is not in the Smokies but is located on Lookout Mountain, Chattanooga, Tennessee.

Yea, I know. I just knew someone was going to pick that out. We vacationed in Smokey Mountains and did every museum there and Ober Gatlinburg and so on and then went to Chattanooga and stayed in the train cars and went to Ruby Falls and rock city. It was a combined trip...and a trip from hell with Sakari. LOL

What is the arch called? I need to start researching. Yea, not interested in a booze cruise. Sakari is not big enough to carry me back to the ship yet. So Cabo is a tender port? Eh

Making note of Banderas Bay.

Desert as in cactus type of desert?

Cabo and Puerto Vallarta are my two favorite ports on the west side.

The arch is called Land's end. The area is absolutely gorgeous. Our cruise ship sailed into Cabo very close to the arch. Google Lover's beach and Divorce beach. Quite a few whale tales were seen and harbour seals were jumping on to the back of the boat to entertain us! Once we took a water taxi tour there and to the two beaches. They are small secluded, natural and beautiful. The other time we took a water taxi to "The Office". Nice beach, good food, great ambience.

In Puerto Vallarta we took the ship's excursion (NCL) across Banderas to some movie famed island (don't remember the name). Loved it. It included everything...lunch, loungers, guided snorkelling, tour of island, etc etc.

P.S. Sorry I butted in, but I got so excited reading about my two favorite ports on the yonder side, that I just had to say something.
