Large earthquake off the coast of Honduras. Tsunami warning issued for much of the Caribbean. Ok, that would be scary. Hope all the ships are safe!

The tsunami warning reaches Puerto Rico and USVI, they certainly don't need anything else. Hopefully it all fizzles out.

I was just on the Carnival Glory last week. We were in Roatan on Tuesday, and there were many cruise ships in the area. Praying that everyone on the islands and the ships are safe.

According to RCCL meteorologist James Van Fleet (wow, what a name!) all indications are that the resulting surge would be less than 3 feet.

Magnitude 7.8 Quake Strikes Caribbean, Tsunami Advisory For PR, Virgin Islands

(CBS SF) — A preliminary magnitude 7.8 earthquake struck Tuesday night in the Caribbean Sea near Honduras, according to the United States Geological Survey.

A tsunami advisory is in effect for the islands of Puerto Rico and both the British and U.S. Virgin Islands.

The quake occurred at about 10:25 p.m. local time and had a depth of about 6.2 miles.

Alfredo E Sanchez, of Santa Rosa, California posted on Facebook that he felt the quake from Mexico, where is on vacation.

“Yes, my family and I felt it at Bacalar Mexico where we are vacationing 3 hours away from Cancún,” Sanchez wrote.

FYI... if a ship is at sea, a tsunami would be barely noticeable. Docked, it'd be a much different matter.

I have friends on a cruise in the area and they would've emailed me if there was anything to report. Haven't heard from them so I know all is going well.
