tango9 Posted February 24, 2018 #1 Share Posted February 24, 2018 I was on the Oosterdam last week and had a Keratin Express Blow out treatment for hair. I have had it on another cruise line and Holland used different brand of products. My hair looked great after the special flat ironing was done. She told me that I could do the same thing if I bought some products, which I did. Being in a hurry to get to dinner, I did not ask enough questions. The expensive hair masque, I later find out, online, is for thining hair and is guaranteed to increase hair volume. I have very thick hair already and this now makes it poufy. I think they sell you what they have in stock and not what really suits your needs. Be careful

sail7seas Posted February 24, 2018 #3 Share Posted February 24, 2018 Sorry for your disappointment but thank you for sharing with us. Is that the same produ t as keranique which I see advertised on tv? They say the keranique is for thin hair.

ithaca gal Posted February 25, 2018 #6 Share Posted February 25, 2018 Thank you for the warning.I don't use the salon or buy anything from them. On my birthday cruise last month, my son and daughter I law said they would like to pay for a spa treatment for me for my birthday. I said "I hope you won't be offended, but I just couldn't enjoy a high priced treatment that I can get at home for half the price". I told them to pick out a necklace or something in one of the ports -- something I would always have to remember our cruise together. I don't criticize those who use the salon or spa but I cannot bring myself to pay such inflated prices ... and then be subjected to a hard sell after relaxing! Thank you for sharing your experience with us. Like many others, I never use the salon on a ship. My stylist at home has been doing my cut/colour for many years and knows my hair. Two days before my cruise, I have my hair done, so really no need to use the salon onboard. That being said, the salons onboard ships are always full and booked up, so many ladies do enjoy it. I've got a long trip coming up and wish I could fly my stylist to Europe to touch up my color toward the end. ;p Not sure I'd trust some stranger on a ship. Tampa Girl Posted February 25, 2018 #10 Share Posted February 25, 2018 Exactly my feelings. I've got a long trip coming up and wish I could fly my stylist to Europe to touch up my color toward the end. ;p Not sure I'd trust some stranger on a ship. I thought the same way until I had my styled by a South African hair stylist on the Oosterdam in 2016. She gave me one of the best haircuts I have ever had. Not cheap, however - $75. I have since learned that you can negotiate the down. With our three-month cruise coming up in September, I have resigned myself to my hair "being what it will be." I will have to have it done on ship because I am not going to waste time and risk the result by having it done in some port by some unknown. kacurl Posted February 25, 2018 #12 Share Posted February 25, 2018 I was on the Oosterdam a couple of weeks ago and I needed to get a haircut because I had to cancel my appointment back home before we left . I actually went to the salon for a talk on hair and I ended up making an appointment with Nicole, a stylist from South Africa .she was fabulous .I had the Keratin blowout treatment along with getting my haircut I got a 25% discount and the bill was $147 which back home the Keratin treatment alone is more than that. When she finished she started to tell me about which products to buy and I politely told her I was not interested so that was that and all in all I was extremely happy with my hair and it still looks great 3 weeks later. ithaca gal Posted February 25, 2018 #13 Share Posted February 25, 2018 In the interest of total disclosure :) I was onboard the Eurodam and the casino hostess had just gotten her cut in the salon and it was so so cute. I went up to talk to the stylist and asked how much it would cost to have mine cut and she said "$75". I indicated that I could just not pay that amount and she immediately said it would be $50. I was okay with that amount and she did give me a WONDERFUL haircut. Unfortunately, my stylist at home just could not seem to master the re-cut, so ........
