Cruise credit days

Do each get credit for both spending?
If it's one booking you both get the credits for the total.

From FAQs:

  • Onboard Spending Bonus Effective with cruises on or after September 18, 2009, one bonus Cruise Day credit will be granted for each $300 in eligible onboard purchases. This is calculated on the combined folio charges for all guests on the booking, regardless of who signs each charge and who pays the bill. Only the first two guests on the booking receive the limit of one bonus day for each day sailed; 3rd and 4th guests on the same booking do not earn the onboard spending bonus.

Do both benefit from the higher star status?

Q: If a 3-Star Mariner shares a stateroom with a 2-Star Mariner, does each guest receive separate benefits?

A: All guests sharing a stateroom as part of the same booking will receive the benefits earned by the guest at the highest Star level. Guests sharing a stateroom under different booking numbers receive individual Star level benefits (this includes 3rd & 4th guest sharing the same stateroom).

You don't get any cruise day credits until after the cruise. Only exception seems to be on a Grand Voyage, if a segment puts you over and you're staying for the next segment, they do give you the next star instead of waiting.

Getting credit for pre-buying OBC would be a double dip. Both passengers in a cabin get cruise credit day credit for the combined total of all charges to the cabin (including gratuities) plus all pre-bought things, and it makes no difference where the funds come from to settle the bill.

Sorry for the confusion earlier. My pre-cruise spending was for things. Specialty dinners for both cruises, the laundry package for both cruises, and the Quench Package for just the first four days since we had the SBP for the last seven.

Thought that - thank you for clearing that up...

On the "Grand Voyages" HAL will bump you up to your next star level if your actual days would qualify you. Spending bonus days are not calculated until the cruise ends. The Hotel Manager does seem to have some discretion on this, however.

Our next cruise (slated for Sept) we will make 4 stars - so get to enjoy those little perks on the 2019 cruises...which really when you are in a suite are pretty much meaningless but it's nice to have the 4 stars - after that the quest to 5 stars! lol ;p

We once got more credits than we could account for, and it wasn't casino charges because we spend very little there. Just an error as far as we could tell. Credits mean nothing to us anymore, since we have no hope of ever making 5*.

Credits don't mean much to me either, Carole unless there is a new star level. We're already 5* but I always look out of curiosity.

I've done the math and for sure, I had to be credited with my casino gaming that I charged to my on board account. Both segments match when I take that into consideration. Exactly - other than the standard round up.

No biggee as the extra days don't do anything for me, but it is interesting. ;)

HAL would have no way of knowing how much cash you handed out. Maybe you were just the beneficiaries of an error.

They would if the stewards are required by HAL to report their cash tips. We know that they have to turn the money in if a guest opts out of or reduces their hotel service charge. Why would they not have to report their extra tips for say tax purposes? Or to give passengers credit for on board spending?

If that was true I would have many more credits than I do now. Back in post #3 you said "The one thing I was surprised about ..." which means it's not a regular occurrence for you. Why not?

  • 1 month later...

At the end of my next cruise I will be just shy of 4 Star. I am not certain what my onboard spending will be. If I pre-purchase enough OBC to make certain I will have enough Onboard Spending to make 4 Star, will that work? I've never pre-purchased onboard credit, so am uncertain if that counts toward Onboard Spending.

OBC is just a way of paying for what you actually SPEND on the ship (excursions, dinners, drinks, souvenirs, gratuities, etc.). It is what you actually SPEND on the ship that gives you credits, whether you pay for it by OBC, credit card or cash. The amount of OBC you pre-purchase has no relation to the amount of Mariner credits you will get.,

From FAQ's:

All casino charges, cash advances, Future Cruise deposits, and associated fees are excluded. All other onboard purchases, for example, Hotel Service Charge, Beverage Service Charge, taxes, shore excursions and all gift items purchased online or through Ship Services count towards bonus Cruise Day credits.

All pre-purchases are considered "gifts" to yourself.

Ok, so let me just ask and make sure. My mom and mil are cruising with us next time. We are a three cabin group as they are both in seperate cabins. If I gift them a floral bouquet each to enjoy on our cruise via pre-boarding indulgences/gifts/etc (which I always do for myself and can't imagine not doing for them) I get that as onboard spending on my account statement and that goes toward my days or their statement and their days? Just curious.

It will be credited toward their account; not yours.

Let me amend that. If you order 3 bouquets for YOUR room and then take them across to THEIR rooms, you are the one who will get the credit. If you are gifting them through their rooms they get the credit.

Question - if I pay for another person's cabin and all costs, is there anyway to get some credit to my Mariner spending days? The other person likely will never use the credits anyway.

Only if you charge all their expenses to your cabin.

Both I and my minor children were given 2 star pins during a recent 14 day cruise. They aren't paying for anything! :D As we have only 25 actual sea days...I do think everybody in the cabin gets the same "spend" credit.

And I thought it was a nice touch to give us the pins on the cruise.

Yes, everyone in the c abn get the spend day credits but not the day

If somone pays for someone else's ca bin in which gthe 'payer is not an occupant, the a dy credits go only to cabin occupants.

Only the persons s taying in te cabin get theMariner days credit no matter who is paying the. biill.

ALL occupying the cabin ge spend day creditgs.

It does not mean that at all. It means that until I figured this out for my most recent cruise, because there was no way HAL is THAT generous, I had accepted the wisdom of this board that HAL is super duper generous with giving credits. I agree that they'll round up to the next $300, but if our grats didn't count, then they did an awful lot of rounding on most recent cruise.

Thank you for the excellent clarification. Its not a big deal but good to know exactly how it works. Thanks. :)

I'm so " maxedout" on Mariner days that any more I earn now have no value and are woth nothing. I was maxed to the top, when they first started tis e program. . IMO, They should update it. Way too many of us have so many points that have no vlaue to us as we have the max amount and way over. There are too many of us for them to think it okay to continue to ignore this WE are their hIGH DAY CUStOMERS.............. However Mr. Ashford is too busy with (whatever) TO bother with us. Out of sight, out of mind. Not important to them as valued ' guests' it seems.

How do we go about that?

For things like excursions, you can't. However, as mentioned above, if you want flowers for their cabin order them for your cabin and move them yourself. Put their drinks on your cabin card. If you eat at one of the speciality restaurants make the reservation in your name for however many and place the entire bill on your bill. You will, of course, have to get them to pay you back.
