My View: Live from a Back2Back Adventure on the Seas

Recommended Posts

We had never done an excursion in Nassau. Since this was my parents’ first opportunity to visit this port, we decided to do a ship excursion. We chose the “Charm and Beauty of Nassau and Paradise Island”. We booked it ahead of time for $39 per person, which I think is a good price for a 3-hour tour. On the ship, the cost was $52, so we saved a good $13 per person by booking ahead on the cruise planner.

Our tour van - Nicely air conditioned! Our tour guide was Henry, and he was excellent!

Our first stop was Atlantis. We got to walk around for 15 minutes to see the aquarium and area:

I saw a spotted stingray too, but could not capture a picture.

Our next stop was at Fort Charlotte, which was not included in the tour. I did not ask about admission price, as we only had 15 minutes. My mom got to shop a bit.

The tour included a stop at the Rum Distillery. The rum tasting was really only a small sip of Piña Colada. I could not even taste the rum. It was more oike a flavored ice. It was definitely not a sales technique (or maybe a failed one). The tour was interesting though, and very well presented by the tour guide.

They had two huge roosters at the distillery:

Interesting facts: All government buildings in the Bahamas are painted pink and white, while all police stations are painted green:

This is a government owned vegetable and fruit garden. Any resident is allowed to pick free fruit and veggies from this garden.

Tip: When you are in the Bahamas... If you get a taste for some fruit, you are allowed to pick any ripe fruit that hangs over the fence of any private residence. If it hangs over the fence toward the street, it is considered public property. At least, that is what Henry told us. [emoji16]

We drove past the new Baha Mar, which is supposed to be competition for Atlantis. Although some aspects are impressive, I do not think it can be compared with all the bells and whistles of Atlantis.

Beautiful wall with a waterfall... It has crystals in the wall that allows it to sparkle at night:

Their golf course was designed by Jack Nicklaus and consists of 72 holes:

Our last stop on the tour was Junkanoo Beach. It has changed a lot since our first visit. It is still beautiful, but there were some sharp pieces of broken glass on the beach.

This used to be an aquarium, but it went bankrupt after Atlantis opened:

Thanks for all the great photos from Nassau. On our last visit there we were booked to snorkel in the aquarium at Atlantis. Unfortunately, it was cancelled due to thunderstorms in the area. I wish they had offered us a chance to reschedule a bit later in the day, as the storm passed quickly and the pools were reopened right after they finished processing our refund. At the time we booked, only snorkeling was offered in the aquarium, but that was in 2014. I don't know if they have added a snuba option since then.

I completely agree with your thoughts on Coco Cay. I'm willing to give it a chance.
