But what is to stop people from saying their kids are potty trained and letting them in the pools anyway.

The only thing that stops people from saying their kids are potty trained when not is unfortunately ethics and caring about their children and other people's children, something some folks don't have.

Yup and now read post #16 and you'll understand why I said that. That's why I wouldn't let my grand babies in a kiddie pool, or any other public pools. They will have plenty of water time at the 7 beaches we go to. A blow up pool is not a bad idea, as long as people dispose of the water the correct way.

I'm with you, I don't go into any public pool or hot tub.  I love the little blow up pool and have read reports of folks using them and they pour them down a drain on the pool deck and then take them to their cabin and but them in the shower to bath the little one.

lol, I do brave the hot tub, and I know that is crazy, given how many kids are in there, but I shower very well after 🙂

Norwegian Pearl is the ship, not cruising till May anyways

As for filling and disposing of the water, I was going to use the shower on the deck else.

If that idea fails then I'm stating my 13 month old child is potty trained. They may be horrific at it... but the quality of their training isn't part of the rules. Besides I'd never take them to the regular pools anyways just the kiddy pool that's inches deep.

Alright... bring on the angry replies

Wow what an inconsiderate person you are!!!

How and where will you dispose of the water?

I feel like this should be pretty easy. Last ship I was on had drains everywhere, and then of course there's the ocean...so draining the pool is probably the least of her worries. That being said, I'm not sure why she or her kid *have* to use the pool during the cruise. I probably just wouldn't, in this case. We didn't use it at all on our cruise, and we had no little ones with us! We  just swam at the beach instead.

You could poor it down the bathroom drain, or toilet. People do it all of the time. It doesn't hold much water, it's just to give the baby something to splash in. Personally I don't see what the big deal is in having babies use the Kiddie pool, if people think for one moment that kids don't pee in it, then they are just in denial. We will be traveling with our two grandchildren 3 and 14 months. While the 3 year old is potty trained, obviously the 14 month old isn't. We will have 8 beach days, so we will let her go in the water at the beach. But what is to stop people from saying their kids are potty trained and letting them in the pools anyway. I would rather have a little "tub" and make sure my child is only sitting in their own pee....That's just me though. Luckily for me mine are all grown, so I won't have to worry about it :classic_biggrin: Daughter and hubby will be on the cruise, it's their problem

As for using the pools on the ship, whether in the kids area or anywhere else, it is a health issue and not just about kids peeing in the water. I see a lot of reasons for the rule, which I think all lines follow. Now as for dumping the water, sure the toilet of tub works great but how does one get the pool from the deck back to the cabin if it is full of water?

On the other hand, I have heard the crew will help fill the little wading pools but don't have first hand knowledge of this.

I am pretty sure my edocs from NCL Dawn states no inflatable items in or around pool area.

Also, why not shower her off when she is warm and take a small bucket for water play toys.  She really isn't going to care about sitting in it, just having water around her to play in.

Does NCL have “kid camps” & day care?

If so, why not have the child in one of those programs for a few hours while the rest of the family enjoys some pool time?

Only one NCL ship has paid childcare for kids under 3.

this is one of the concerns I have always had about cruising with babies and toddlers. Everyone has to do what works for them but I have always thought kids what are too young to spend time in the kids center are too young to cruise or if they do cruise, mom and dad have to accept they will find it necessary to give up a lot of activities to spend time with the little one.

I guess it is like everything else as a parent during the “baby years”. Some thing you just have to miss out on because you have a baby in tow.

My kids are older, but I know my vacations are different in what we can do with and without them in tow.

I've seen a few of the tiny blow up pools on the ships.   The main pool deck will be too crowded but you will be able to find a spot on one of the upper decks further away from the pool where people in loungers aren't squeezed in chair to chair as on the newer ships.    You will be able to find a place.    Also, there are drains all over the decks.   Those decks get hosed down daily, there are drains, there is space, you will be able to do it.

Maybe I am thick but I just don't get it. They have handwashing stations everywhere on the ship to try and prevent viruses. I would like to assume (and please don't correct me) that most people wash their hands after using the bathroom and more often if they feel under the weather.

The blow up pool seems a bit odd to me. First, how do you manage not to trip someone walking on the deck with the pool? I fell in the casino when someone's walker was sticking out a little in the aisle. Now imagine a moving boat, slippery decks, and maybe some people drinking.  I would be afraid someone would fall on my child.  More likely than getting sick.

Second, the decks at sea are windy.  How are you going to blow it up and fill it without it either blowing away or bothering others.  I guess if you have a balcony it wouldn't be a big deal. Otherwise?

Third, most ships have splash areas without a wading area. Kuds can get wet and cool off without their diapers becoming bacteria tea bags.

Finally,  why do you think the kids programs do not take untoilet trained kids? Not only because they don't want to but because technically its a biohazard.  Haven't you ever seen the special bags the cabin stewards use to discard them?

Diapered kids can’t use those splash areas, even thought they look appropriate. The kids clubs do take diapered kids IF they are age three or over, they just give parents a phone and contact them if the child needs to be changed.
