Cashing out Casino winnings

For those of you who gamble in the casino, and still have money left when you're done, what is the maximum amount you can cash out?

What do they do if you have a large amount of money?

We're going to have a decent-sized chunk of OBC on our next cruise, and are thinking of using some in the casino (probably on machines, not tables).

I have walked off the ship with nearly a $1000 in casino cash. I just went to the cashier window and got the cash either by cashing chips or withdrawing money on the card from playing slots. All of it was refundable OBC. We didn't want to wait weeks for our check. I don't like walking around with that much cash but we disembarked in Ft L and live in south Florida. It was in the bank the next day.

If you're playing the slots you'll probably not need to worry about cashing out. I would say that they would pay by cash or check the amount that's in your casino account. Unfortunately, I've never found myself in that predicament!

Periodically while playing the slots I would cash out my winnings which were posted on my roomkey.  Important to visit the casino cashier before the casino closes to cash out all the remaining $ left on the card because  the money doesn't automatically shift over to the room's account.

Your casino account is separate from you cabin account - they are 2 different accounts

Money moves from your cabin account to your casino account when you get chips or play slots - when the cruise ends and you have money still in your casino account you must cash it out, it will not roll over to act as a credit on your cabin account.

In the past we have allowed winnings to build up on the casino account until the last night and just went to the cage to cash out.  Last cruise we had to cash out to a slot ticket, and then take the ticket to the cage to cash out.   It is VERY easy to charge your room account from a slot machine - just do a transfer by pushing a few buttons.  But once on the casino side you cannot put it back in the room account.  You must get cash from the cage (we have never gotten a check).  After cashing out you can, of course, take the cash to the Guest Relations desk and apply it to your room account.

I understand that the casino pays your money out to you when requested but is there a tax form that needs to be done also?  NY has a $600 limit.  Anything over that must be claimed on your taxes.  What is the story when you are on a cruise?  I have never had the luck to walk away with extra while cruising but hope to change that soon.

I would think if it's on your card you would not have to as it could be a lot of small wins.  I did have to do a W9 form when I had a hand pay last month.

I won a jackpot on Royal Princess last year and the attendant came out with the forms to fill out for the taxes.  Only then, was I given the pink slip to take the the cashier window.  The info I was given was, "If an individual wins in excess of $1,200 in a single payout or wins a table game payout with odds of 300-to-1 or more, a legally operated gaming facility is required to issue that person IRS Form W-2G"

I suppose that's one way to do it but for me,  once it's in my pocket it stays there.

that's interesting. We were in the waters off of Mote Carlo and won a large sum. The countess ( aka wife) had the house keep it for future credit. No paper work involved. Now in the waters off California we had to fill out forms.
