ShillyShally Posted February 13, 2019 #3 Share Posted February 13, 2019 Ugh, I would hate that news right now - so sorry! I'm guessing all their other ships are full too for anyone that could still take that time off!
Ourusualbeach Posted February 13, 2019 #4 Share Posted February 13, 2019 This is exactly why you should never book the first couple of cruises after a drydock. 11

Nah... this won't dissuade me from doing it in the future. Did it on Adventure last Feb, and all was fine. It was a risk I knew could happen... was just hoping it wouldn't.

I do not have air or hotel tied to this travel, and I can cancel my PTO, and just take it any other time. If I had to fly, I would then not chance it on the first sailing after a refurb.
Nessa1dc Posted February 13, 2019 #10 Share Posted February 13, 2019 That is extremely short notice. Leave taken, money saved, Excitement at its peak...they should have known better. I'm sorry about this for you. I hope you can call and get it changed...and then to top it off...you don't get your credit until February 27th...which is 3 days after you were supposed to be sailing...yes...they would seriously hear from me. That is great..i am an RN as well and I know how precious those PTO days are and how tough they are to come by hopefully you have no issue finding other dates that work for you! Rare island lady Posted February 13, 2019 #14 Share Posted February 13, 2019 Indeed a shame, especially for those that had to book vacation time. However...poop can and will happen. At least they are refunding everything, including airline change fee. And getting the 50% off on a next cruise...pretty good deal there. 🙂
sharktums Posted February 13, 2019 #15 Share Posted February 13, 2019 My friends booked this cruise while we were on another cruise last year. I told them about the dry dock and they were completely prepared for this. My family almost booked this cruise knowing we wouldn't actually be able to make it and feeling pretty sure that something like this would happen! Darn, we should have for a nice full refund and a 50% off certificate! Sorry for any of you that are upset by this, but a small amount of research would have led you to the understanding of situations like this. That is $104 for me. 🤣 Even though it was cheap, it's still a big disruption, and I would have hoped they would have just protected the rate on a similar sailing. That is okay.. I have been being able to cruise 5-6 times a year, and I feel much worse for those that do not get to, and were so desperately looking forward to this cruise. Now to start looking for another one...

You only paid $208 for the entire cruise??!! Wow...was a good deal for sure. That is cheaper than some of the non refundable deposits I pay for a cruise. 😮 Edited February 13, 2019 by island lady

If I'm going to spend thousands of dollars on ANYTHING, I do research! Same should be for any vacation. I see tons of families complaining about spending money on a Disney Vacation of a Lifetime but they did no research and have no dining or ride reservations. I'm sorry, but I can't feel overly bad in a situation like this where a small amount of research would have prepared travelers for this possibility. It's no different than booking during hurricane season and then having your cruise cancelled, shortened, re-routed.
Grandma Dazzles Posted February 13, 2019 #20 Share Posted February 13, 2019 Sailing on the Navigator in a few weeks. Hopefully everything will be fine by late March/April. As an experienced cruiser, I thought about the refurbishment when I booked, but not everyone knows to check. Also, might not be a big deal to people cruising out of Florida, but a nightmare for international travelers. Very short notice, and there is compensation, but would not cover everything for many travelers. As far as PTO, when I was working, also in healthcare, wasn’t able to make changes so easily. Probably would have had to take what I requested.

Plus the $104.82 in taxes each, which since not part of the cruise fare will not be counted for the credit I am sure. It is not that the cruise was that price, we had $300 in casino coupons applied as well. I am sure Casino Royale will allow us to use those again as well. So like I said.. no big deal for us. The only thing that will be different on a rebook, is I will be going solo, because my other half will not be able to take any more time from May-Oct... busy months for them, and getting the Alaska in August was like pulling teeth. Luckily for me, I have an enormous amount of flexibility in my PTO. I only have to compete with my boss, and she takes hers in larger 2-3 week chunks at a time. If they booked through a TA, the TA should be doing that...
Rare twangster Posted February 13, 2019 #25 Share Posted February 13, 2019 I booked knowing this was a distinct possibility. Last week when the date of the cruise appeared in "Future Cruises" as Feb 24 - 25 I knew something was up. Knowing this was a possibility I booked the B2B on 3/1 so I'm hoping that one isn't changed either (another possibility). In my case flying into the 3/1 cruise just got a whole lot more expensive since I am now booking it on 16 days notice. Hotel rates are up as well so after their $200 change fee offer I'm out about another $200. While I was prepared for it and booked knowing it could happen it still leaves a bad taste in your mouth when it costs you several hundred dollars beyond what they offer as compensation. Just now, Mikew0805 said: If they booked through a TA, the TA should be doing that... Most TAs are driven to book cruises, a downside to commissioned sales. I can't fault any TA for not telling guests "don't book that cruise!".
