Brilliance of the Seas still smoky?

Recommended Posts

There's no problem to solve as far as RC is concerned.

However, the smoke smell is not everywhere. Mostly on either side of the casino, and then up the centrum sometimes.

Ellen is onboard right now, perhaps she will see this and comment.😇

Unfortunately that is the problem with the design of the Radiance class ships, though they are my favorite class of RCL ship.  All four sisters have that design.  The casino, with it's large open doorway, is too close to the centrum.  The smoke comes out of there and drifts up the Centrum like a chimney.  It is most especially bad on sea days when everyone is on board during the day.  I have tried sitting near the centrum and have had to leave to go elsewhere on those days.

Shame they do not do the simplest fix to that much lamented problem...put doors on the entrance.  😞

True, pretty much the only thing don't like on Radiance Class is Casino smoke...

Really do adore all four sisters for sure.  A couple of my favorite features are all the glass (making the ladies look so elegant and views to the ocean!) and love the outdoor seating area behind the WJ.

Shame RCI does not listen to the many that have complained about the smoke...simply install a door to the entrance of the casino.  😞

Same here, 200+ nites on Radiance Class with many more to come. Radiance Class was designed to have the best of Vision and Voyager Class ships. Always love Vision's Glass that they put on Radiance and agree with Aft WJ views. The best...

It's not good if it blows in the Centrum a designated non smoking area where people congregate. I reported it to Royal as non smoking areas should not be contaminated with smoke. In Vegas I don't smell the smoke in the buffet.

Who stupidly designed the big doors close to the Centrum?  It's where most of the events take place.

The Royal rep told me the problem was fixed. If it's not I'm doing what I did last time and talk with the Casino manager. I have a right to  smoke free full access to the Centrum. Royal may need to move the dance parties somewhere else. I should not have to avoid the Centrum a reasonably designated non smoking area. Smoke should not leak from designated areas.

If Royal does not fix the problem for sensitive people then their Casino License should be revoked or require the casino to be smoke free.

Smoking should only be done in a enclosed airtight room and not outside. Airports do it so why can't cruise ships. I would avoid this out of the way air tight room.

This class of ship (with this smoke issue) has been in service a LONG time.  Highly doubtful anything is going to change.  Who even issues casino licenses for cruise ships?

But the cruise lines could make the casino smoke free. Also in protected and if the rep told me the issue has been fixed and it's not I'm holding them accountable since they have reports of someone with thus condition.  If I can't dance in the Centrum due to smoke then what?

I don't have rights to a reasonable request to close the doors to the casino like in Vegas?

I have a right to cruise with access to smoke free areas without it leaking into these areas.

If you have a peanut allergy the cruise line does everything reasonable but still you must be careful.

I can get very sick from tobacco so I avoid it. Smokers need to be considerate of non smokers and we can get along. I do my part to go on the opposite deck.

I totally agree that they could make the casino smoke free.  My point is, they haven't, and I'm just doubtful that they ever will.

There is no licensing requirement or regulation for a cruise ship casino that operates only in international waters.  Member cruise lines voluntarily adopt the policies of the Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA) regarding gambling, which state:  "CLIA’s members have adopted a policy that all equipment purchased and installed on cruise vessels will meet the regulatory standards of the Nevada Gaming Control Board or other licensed jurisdiction for payback and internal software.".  These voluntary regulations also basically state that rules for cash control, cage procedures, etc. should mirror land based licensing jurisdiction rules.  Compliance with these CLIA rules, however,  is self-enforced by the individual cruise lines' internal audit department, not by an outside casino control board.

Thank you for the explanation!  I was skeptical about the suggestion of revoking their casino license.

Celebrity ship's casinos are smoke free. As far as I can tell, casino business seems to be the same, smoking or not. But who knows.

I agree that smoke in/around the Brilliance casino can be an issue, particularly in the busy evenings. Smoke does migrate. Furthermore, at all times of the day, folks stop by the casino to light up. The casino is often treated as quite simply, a convenient smoking area and ash tray.

I also agree that smokers have rights too, but in the interest of health and safety for all of us, smoking areas should be located outside. Never in interior public space. It's a mystery to me why RCI and Celebrity smoking policies are in opposition. And yet, I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Just an opinion, based on one person's observation. Not intended to inflame a well-worn smoking vs. non-smoking argument! Nobody wins that one.

Just off the Ovation.  There was no smoking in the casino, or anywhere else indoors so far as I could tell.  I smoke, but I liked that about this ship.

Different design ship. Radiance Class is the issue

And on that design...unfortunately the Centrum is the smokestack.  😞

More accurately, the centrum the "Cigarette Smoke Distribution System".  Very well designed.
